I have it on good audthority, that most people who work as police men or women have little to no college under their belts, much hardly any kind of degree. As for military experience, substantial, as in the number of years, yes. Very rarely are is their experience substantial, as in, of solid character or quality. In fact, it's an insult to our military to even refer to what police the US today as "officers."

More likely he'll be in segregation for about two months and then sent home on good behavior, home arrest or parole.
If it was state jail, that means 2 years, no parole in there.
