  • This song makes me feel so good! Growing up with Smooth Jazz, I couldn't have asked for a better childhood <3

  • A+

  • This is so slick, Herb is the man! one of the coolest songs ever!

  • I don't care this is the song that's going to take me outta here.....This is the song when my life ends I am requesting this song to be played at my funeral Route 101.....I LOVE THIS SONG....

  • qué canción tan gay.... esto no es jazz!!!! no confundan el perfume con el agua de patchouli!!!

  • @yosoydeyarumal Conoces la trayectoria de este señor? No? A callar entonces!

  • the gayest song ever and ever !!!! :-D

  • Of course like most Americans I've heard this song many times over the years...but I never knew it was Herb Alpert! Awesome! :)

  • Hard to believe how his song Rise went to #1 while this song only went to the #37! This is one of my favorite Herb Alpert songs!

  • I was 7 y.o. when this tune came out and I'm 36 now. Been in love with this jam ever since! Thank you for posting. My mom grew up listening to Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass in the 60s, and I grew up listening to him in the 80s. His careers now spans into the third, if not FOURTH generation!

From the creative genius who established A&M Records along with longtime friend/partner Jerry Moss. Even Miles gave props to this cat!

  • @JVLIVSPhoto "Even Miles gave props to this cat!"

    You got that right!

"Three notes and you know it's Herb Alpert."

  • al fin la encontre esta cancion trae buenos recuerdos de jazz suave

  • My first time hearing this. Always liked Alpert's music. Also think he's pretty good looking! Cheers.

  • Get in a car with the top down...crank this up just before the speakers distort!! oooOh yeah..life is good[[[[[[[[[[[[[[.........

  • agreed my favorite one for when going to florida in the spring just crusin on my honda goldwing all the way to bike week every year ty again boswell

  • Thxxx for posting this; I'd almost forgotten this cruisin' tune.

  • THIS IS SO AWESOME! This YouTube will have to do until I can find the CD again in some recycle bin. I haven't found the download yet either. It doesn't make sense considering Herb Alpert's huge power and presence in the recording industry.

I lost the original, along with almost 800 other albums and CD's, when I was ripped off by the woman who was closest to me for almost 20 years. YOU WOULD HAVE TO HAVE LOST YOUR SOUL TO TAKE A MAN'S MUSIC COLLECTION AS YOUR OWN…

  • @rcamp72 You truly have my sympathy-- that's one of the coldest things I've heard. I couldn't do that no matter what he did to me. Can't you find "Definitive Hits" anywhere? Check eB.

  • I played this alot many requests for Route 101 on my KMPC show also on AFRTS. One of Herb's best roger carroll

  • Lets go west Lannee, I will make you happy. With this music playing and you with me all our troubles will not matter

  • wow, great tune. herb alpert was one of the 1st great jazz players i heard.

  • Love this song! Classic!!!!

  • Herb never disappointed....this song is so typical of greatness....

  • People this whole album is awesome!

  • I like "Rise" better, but this is a close second...

  • Beautiful music!

  • Wonderful.

  • Really like this song when I was living in Miami around 1991.

  • I'm a guitar/rock-and-roll kind of guy, BUT...Herb's trumpet and his breezy sound have always delighted me.

  • I only knew this song on the Weather Channel, and it's still awesome!

  • Radio Metropole, FM, Port-Au-Prince, Haiti in the 80s...the real-life Dr. Johnny Fever, "T-I-T-O," played the latest pop hits every afternoon, presented in English and his precarious command of the technical aspects of radio engineering which resulted in outbursts of mic feedback that were as much a part of the show as the tunes he played....and this was his theme music. RIP, Tito! Hearing this song after over 20 years just brought you back to life for me!

  • @WithInsert, I appreciate your post. I do remember T-i-t-o in the mid 80's on radio metropole, every afternoon after school. He had a great vocal, and yes he used to close his show with Herb's song. What a shame that he passed. I have never had a chance to see what he looked like. If you got some pictures or some bio, please share...thanks.

  • I remember hearing this song frequently during the Summer of 1982 on my local contemporary FM radio station. I fell in love with it immediately! Songs like "Don't You Want Me" by The Human League" (Herb Alpert's A & M label mates) & "Eye Of The Tiger" by Survivor were on the radio around the same time as "Route 101". Heb Alpert's instrumental peaked on both the Billboard pop & adult contemporary chart in September 1982!

    Bravo, Herb Alpert!

  • I love this song. Thanks for uploading it!!

  • I used to hear this song ALL DAMN DAY while working in Winn Dixie stocking Milk and Eggs...FELL IN LOVE WITH THIS SHIT...I am a smooth jazz and Oldie Goldies lover as a result. This guy and others like him paved the way. LOVE THIS DAMN SONG...

  • @2000taichou I must heard this a hundred times at Winn Dixie also. Still love thou

  • Can anyone else envision horses galloping while listening to this ? Or is it just me ?

  • @311Ceriah

Nope---no horses. What I see is the man from WJR (an a.m. radio station in Detroit many years ago) playing "air trumpet" in the commercials. Ohhh....to be young again....

  • @bethomas35 You are young again.....everytime you listen.......good memories keep you young in ur heart and ur

mind.....so does good music! Enjoy! Thank-you, we will.

  • Chile : 525 líneas, 1987.

  • This kind of music touches the bottom of my heart.

  • ... Fantastic rhythm track on this one. Brilliant.

  • This is my favorite Herb Alpert instrumental (either with The Tijuana Brass or solo)! "Route 101" peaked on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 singles chart in August 1982! What a great summer for pop music! "Eye of the Tiger" by Survivor & "Hard to Say I'm Sorry" by Chicago were also chart singles at this time.

    Bravo, Herb Alpert!

  • las oia en un estereo truster de panasonic...al cual modifique instalando le cuatro bocinas....calro contra los regaños de mis papas jajaja

  • Got this album in the early 80's and have been procrastinating to get it digitized... being hopeful that it would be released on cd. Well! I'm done waiting. I can't imagine why they're holding back from re-releasing this beautiful music.

  • the best time to listen to all of Mr. Alpert's music is on a rainy lazy Sunday. I mean all day,and to start it off. Have a Beer breakfast .And if the mood strikes just right go tap your honey, she won't mind!

  • @PathfinderMac When I worked in "Contracted Construction and House Renovation work during the 1970s I used to also Listen to Herb Alpert Superb Melody JAZZ over the Radio, I loved it, and my Job in fast Construction became more Constructive and Enjoyable with Herb Alpert over the Radio FM. Stations of the 1970s!!!!

  • Que nostalgia recordar estas melodias que recuerdos

  • I have all his albums and his autograph.

  • Good weekend drive on the freeway

  • temazo...

  • Riddle's Route 66 theme was my road favorite until Route 101 came along. Both are good tracks to play while filming (from a copter) a Corvette driving through the AZ woods on Old 66 west of Flagstaff or up the Pacific Coast Highway near Big Sur. Which leads me to state Bachrach's Pacific Coast Highway is also great.

  • this song always reminds me of Elizabeth taylor

  • music you can shop to!

  • put the top down on the t bird and lets go cruise up the coast..its a fine saturday afternoon! we'll let the wind blow through our thinning hair and shot at the top of our lungs! man is it great to be alive and have Herb on the cd

  • Thumbs up if you first found out about this song through The Weather Channel.

  • The DJ on my local AM radio station in my hometown used to play this song while he read the weather report. A great fit.

  • RADIOTOCA BRASIL "A DIFERENCIA É A MUSICA O PASADO É O PRESENTE MUSICAL PY5AAA"

  • Is there a better "road" song in the American Songbook? I think not.

  • @7927jackpark Just one Pal, you are forgetting Nelson Riddle's theme to "Route 66" .. Now THAT is a road song, but this is mighty fine too!

  • A great song, from a truly talented gentleman.

  • One fabulous song!!!!

  • clasico de los 80's !!

  • Beautiful song!

  • wish i could have seen him in 1980 he had a nervous breakdown! but hes tight!

  • Just Great, a pulsating cool sweet sound that takes you high, a Classic, hats off to Herb.

  • Driving down US 101 or California 1 in my convertible...no, I was in a VW Beetle sedan back in 1981 when I heard this song on the radio at the time, on a solo trip from Pennsylvania...what great memories. Thank you for the post!

  • One of the best...

  • Im thinking of some exotic car cruisin in the fast lane on the highway when I listen to this song. or some 80's Ferrari ad.

  • I love this song! Heard it on the radio ^^

  • This piece ALWAYS lifted my spirits when I was down. Thanx Herb!!!

  • never knew he was the 'A' in A & M records\ he and partner' M'oss sold it later

  • Fantastic song!

  • the genius of herp alpert and the sun!

  • The best music ever I so loved this when I first heard it and 28 years later still Rocks

  • This song also was used in one of the vignettes of the international overture from the broadcastings of the 1986 FIFA World Cup (held in Mexico).

Esta música foi utilizada numa das vinhetas da abertura internacional das transmissões da Copa do Mundo de 86 (realizada no México).

  • Sky and Sands of Cebu

I renamed it In my mp3 list just because I could. :-)

  • The only way I learned to like this song was hearing it on The Weather Channel via Local On The 8s. When I first heard it on there, I fell in love wi it.

  • @talladegajunkie1439 for me it was in the mid 90s when I was in high school watching a rerun of The Price Is Right from 1982 on GSN, and it was used for background music in a showcase

  • @talladegajunkie1439 I first heard it when I worked in radio in 1991 and they used it as filler music;

  • His best song ever!!!

  • Mi alma se regosija de alegria al escuchar melodias como esta, solo con la música se pueden expresar emociones sin usar palabras GRACIAS HERB ALPERT por tu obra maestra.

  • 自分の青春の思い出の素晴らしい曲です。

  • The song's title suits it perfectly. Whenever i hear it it gives the feel of driving down the highway on a beautiful summer day :D Herb is superb!

  • This is quite possibly one of my all time favorite songs...it reminds me of cruising down the highway in California on the way to Mexico, or of me going on a fun all girls road trip, or even just of me driving down the street doing errands, (I always pop this in in the car). I just LOVE this song, it's exciting yet relaxing, and I never tire of it!!!!! :)

  • great song of the 80's !!!

  • From time to time, portions of this song were heard on the 'Local on the 8's' segments of The Weather Channel.

  • @wonderglory I love The Weather Channel music. They often play the instrumental version of Sublime's "What I Got" for Local on th 8s

  • awesome

  • There's no sound quite unmistakably unique as Herb Alpert.

His music is timeless and mesmerizing!!!!!

I've listened to his music since I was a kid, and I can say that

I've never gotten tired of hearing that Trombone play!

  • 長年この曲、日野テルマサと勘違いしてました。

  • One of the good memories I have from the Fall of 1982.Unfortunately I was starting High School and getting picked on by bullies. At that time, music ,astronomy and science fiction tv shows were the only things I could retreat to.

  • I love this man and all he has contributed to music. Of all his songs ,this is both incredibly joyful yet somehow infused with an undeniable melancholy that only a tried genius could create. Brilliantly haunting.

  • He may not get the recognition as a pure jazz musician, but his music is always fun to listen to. Whipped Cream to 8 Ball there's not one that doesn't leave you feeling better than when you started listening. What more can you ask out of music?

  • When I was young back in the 80's my Uncle used to take us to the beach and he always put this music whenever we were returning from there..it was so relaxing .. it brings good memories to me!! awesome muscians

  • I can also hear the vocals too.

  • buena combinación de sonidos, mucha coherencia, es una hermosa melodía, nos hace evocar el amor, la dulzura, la alegría de vivir. Felicitaciones!

  • AH ! such good memories of Herb Alpert & The Tijuana Brass......another that open many doors to Hispanics in those early days.....BRAVISSIMO/Thanks

  • exactly right. Herb's a music legend.

  • @mediamanny53 Even none of the Brass were Hispanic. Alpert himself was a Jewish caucasian.

  • @mediamanny53 Herb's great.... though not Hispanic but Jewish..., not sure any of his band were Hispanic either..

  • @irish89055 None were Hispanic. The TJB was mostly Italian...I think Tonni Kalash (2nd trumpet) was Jewish, too. Guitar, bass, piano, drums...all Italians. Even Julius Wechter (Herb's uncredited marimba player), I'm guessing, was of German descent.

  • * * * * *.

  • Loved this when it came out...and still do!!
