Our church watched this on Good Friday as well. You're right, it does paint a fairly accurate mental picture of what He had to go through, but I've heard it said countless times that what this movie shows in terms of torture damage isn't even close. My pastor kept saying that Jesus was beaten so badly that He didn't even look human anymore, much less like the bearded man we see Him to be. All that, to save us. Praise God.

It's what I've heard, and, to be quite honest, I believe beyond a doubt that he was beaten beyond recognition. Seems like a lot of Christians were upset (although not the majority) stating that the death of Christ should never be reinacted. I found the movie to be extremely moving, more so than any other film I've seen. I had more respect and Love for Jesus. I don't see how that's bad.

Our church watched this on Good Friday as well. You're right, it does paint a fairly accurate mental picture of what He had to go through, but I've heard it said countless times that what this movie shows in terms of torture damage isn't even close. My pastor kept saying that Jesus was beaten so badly that He didn't even look human anymore, much less like the bearded man we see Him to be. All that, to save us. Praise God.

It's what I've heard, and, to be quite honest, I believe beyond a doubt that he was beaten beyond recognition. Being flogged to the point that no-one would be able to recognize Him as human acts as a kind of amplifier to the fact that He carried such an immense load. He was able to get up because, as I understand it, God kept Him alive and gave him the strength required long enough to be able to fulfill what He was born to do. Otherwise He would have died while being tortured.

It would make sense to claim that humans are biologically engineered by God himself to NOT survive anything close to what Jesus had to endure, probably to enhance the effect of His immense sacrifice.
