For all of tourism Australia's efforts to sell this wonderful country, they still don't come close to what an American network can produce... Kinda funny :)
'A Monolith 100M years old'. Uluru is a baby. It's mostly still underground. It's spectacular because it's the only thing to be seen for miles and because of the magic of the Aboriginal folklore surrounding it. There is an older Monolith, Mt Arapiles in Victoria. It's about 50M years older and has mostly fallen down, but it's so fun to climb and play on. Uluru - great to look at. Mt Arapiles - fun to play on. Araps has an equally important and interesting story of Aboriginal history as Uluru.
This was the best olympics in my mind, the world seemed brighter back then, great memories... of course i was only 9 yrs old so maybe that's why i feel that way... then again maybe things really were better back then
James earl Jones sure does know how to move a person watching this brings a tear to my eyes his words are so vivid. you can just listen to him and you will see this video clip without actually looking at it.
this is the 1st olympics i can remember :) the thing i remember the most is the kangaroo hopping up the mountian, because my friends that moved to australia sent me alittle kangaroo with an aussie flag, & the olympics were the only thing on since we had just moved too & our dish wasn't set up yet
if you want to see the 2004 Athens Olympic opening narrated by James Earl Jones - type in: 2004 Olympic Montage - James Earl Jones. It should be the first option - image of a female gymnast with james earl jones in bold at the description. Then for the 2008 Beijing Opening narrated by Andrew Braugher - it should be in the related videos by "SDFCustom". If you want the 2006 Torino Olympics narrated by Andrew Braugher - type in "World Comes to Torino" - should be the 1st option - thanks & enjoy
I really do think Sydney hosted the greatest Olympic Games ever. The atmosphere that enveloped the city was wonderfully friendly, festive, and inclusive, and the times around world didn't feel heavy as they do now. The Olympic spirit was able to shine its brightest. Cities can't feverishly spend, design, build, or organize there way into hosting such an event. Either the atmosphere will be there or it won't. And the Aussies has it in huge amounts.
my dad went on busness to every olympics since 1984 in LA, he said, sports results aside, Barcelona had a best after parties. He said Beijing was by far the worst, shit hospitality and poluted sky and incredibly rude locals.
@Temible interesting! thanks! Any other details u might wanna share? If I had to choose, I woulda liked to have gone to Athens... Beijing was unforgettable tho, just the drama and controversy, and spectacular achievements. Sydney was cool too.
Atlanta was the worst, too bad for USA... it was not stunning or interesting
Has anyone, on the internet or on a site like ares galaxy, napster, or limewire, found the closing ceremony credits to nbc beijing 2008? Can anyone say goosebumps?
You are probably right, James Earl Jones' narration was actually aired after the Bugler's Dream intro. This is why I put in the description "out of order". I thought that maybe this was somehow not aired when it was supposed to.
Do you happen to have the NBC Closing Credits for the Sydney Olympics? I'm pretty sure I remember a song sung by a children's choir (which was also used in an airline commercial) but I can't remember what it's called (it was NOT one of the ones sung during the actual Opening/Closing ceremonies), and it's been gnawing at me for awhile now. Thanks!
James Earl Jones, the Opening Ceremonies, and the Olympics, the greatest intro on earth. The Sydney games were perfection. The Aussie's showed us what true spirit of sport and competition was all about.
Well, if their bid video with all of Britain's finest displayed to that wonderful song Proud is a preview of 2012 then it will indeed be splendid. That video alone, made proud to be an Anglophile. LOL. I loved how London was shown as diverse. People might not like that idea over there, but London is a melting pot and it should be displayed as such.
I know very little about sports but i have always considered the Olympics to be something special for all of mankind. Normally I only watch the opening ceremony and to this day i think ABC Sports and the late John McKay did a fantastic job covering the events above NBC today. One exception; to this day i remember the excellent visuals of Australia on the NBC nightly coverage of the Sydney games of 2000. I am glad to seem them included here at 6.22
It's called "Bugler's Dream" (also "The Olympic Fanfare") written By Leo Arnaud. Everything you hear from 6:22 - 7:18 is Bugler's Dream. John Williams has also conducted a version of "The Olympic Fanfare" first used in the 1984 Olympics that starts with Leo Arnaud's version (used here between 6:22 & 7:05), but he added his own written music.
Which "resilient cyclist" is he talking about? I figured out everyone else - Jenny Thompson, Michael Johnson, Marion "Sore Loser" Jones, Ian Thorpe, Cathy Freeman and I forgot the triathlete's name.
I loved the 2000 olympics, probably my most favorite summer olympics yet and when James Earl Jones did this, I was so amazed. I hope he does it again for this summers.
The best part of NBC's Olympic coverage is always the intro. It's such a basic concept - theme music over fly-by footage of the host country - that I'm surprised no one else has tried it.
Lived in Oz for a year and a half while attending LaTrobe Uni in Melbs. Always like coming back to this to remind me of my time down there. Absolutley love the place, wish I never left.
Don't be so sure that Australia will never host againt. 2016 will probably be hoested by one of the Americas that 2020 will be open to Australia or possibly Africa.
Apparently Adelaide and Hobart might bid for the 2018 Commonwealth games and Perth, Canberra and the Gold Cost have confirmed they will bid for the 2018 games. Brisbane is apparently bidding for the 2024 Olympics and Perth might also bid for the 2028 Olympics.
Truly a masterpiece as an introduction to the greatest social event of mankind. This is a fitting piece to announce to America that NBC has the distinct honor and priviledge to broadcast the Games of the XXVIIth Olympiad Sydney 2000!
Thanks arharris04, I will add this information to the description as well as here. The name of the song is "The Decision to Turn Around" and it is the 5th track from the soundtrack of the movie "Perfect Storm" by James Horner.
I love how they've adapted the images to the music so well you can't believe that the music wasn't made for the montage but for a movie about a fishing boat. This is probably my favorite video on YouTube.
