Inicialmente Paul tenía como objetivo pensar un nombre para una canción que sería publicada en el siguiente disco de los Beatles en 1966, Revolver. Para ello, tomó primero el nombre de Eleanor, por el nombre de la actriz Eleanor Bron, y después el nombre de Rigby, por una tienda en Bristol. Pero más ido que una doble dosis de LSD se debió de quedar Paul, cuando vió en el cementerio de Woolton la tumba de una tal ¡Eleanor Rigby!
