  • I don't think Satch has ever missed a note... ever.

  • Meh, being a guitarist isn't somehow a mechanical way of competing in a sort of sport of speed, technique etc. They're all great if you like the art they create. They're artists essentially, because they create ..well.... artistry. There's no 'better than'.. but yet will just keep on arguing about it hahahaha..

  • This became one of my fav satch numbers after years of listening. Got some great stuff going on.

  • satan of all gods.. mr joe satriani.. thanks for the inoiration towards keeping me playing instrumental rock...

  • I love the sound, but I hate that never starling ending!!!

  • 307 people KNOW what TRUE PROFESSIONAL musical talent and effort REALLY is. cudos!

  • His music gives me smiileee :-)!

  • 3 people are Potato Heads !

  • ...he's pretty good i guess...:)

  • love the way he slides across the whole neck

  • Excelente vídeo do mestre Satriani para terminar muito bem o fds

  • WTF how its possible that theres an unlike botton in a satch video!?!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @SpartanMota dont be vulgar :D

  • I love what the rhythm section are doing when Satch is just wanking at the end!

  • slow down joe!! its almost a lil jumbled

  • The Bass player is David LaRue

  • is that john on drums?

  • Smooth dude!!!!

  • I bow to the master.

  • Lord voldemort is shredding xD

  • I could have sworn that was Stu

  • Sorry for asking a inappropriate Question Have you guys heard of Chris Poland?

  • @Chuck6360 yup ..underrated legend

  • Man, Jeff Campitelli and Stu Ham can really keep it in the pocket!

  • @nick11link dude thats not stu ham on bass, stu is a chubby guy with short hair hence the ham surname haha

  • Seems to me people are batting about Vai, Van Halen and Satriani and trying to come out with 'the best'. They're all so different in terms on innovation, technique and songwriting. Personally I think Eddie Van Halen is the best but if people are going down the technique route then maybe you should listen to some Shawn Lane or something. Also neither Satch or Vai are EVH 'impersonators' but they do owe a hell of alot to him and Satch and Vai both admit.

  • Satch is in another stratosphere! Vai is flying around trying to find him in a way too brightly coloured rocket, and Eddie is on the earth bulding very impressive fireworks rockets..

I think that kinda sums up the Eddie/Satch/Vai situation

  • I have to laugh at those who think that Satch immitates/follows Eddie. I saw VH in concert, but (sadly) all the Satch I've seen "live" has been here. I can tell you in no uncertain terms that Satch blows him away.

Eddie was a great innovator back in the 80s with his style, but he doesn't hold a candle to Joe. Satch is in the stratosphere...Eddie is still here on Mother Earth.

It isn't even fair to compare the two really as their styles are vastly different.

    Simply put...Satch is THE man

  • I saw him live a couple days ago. When he played this I actually lost feeling in my limbs due to the overwhelming feeling of pure ownage

  • I could listen to you, Joe, if I could....TWENTY-FOUR / SEVEN....and, have, for years now, but I have to work & eat once in a while......ROCK ON!

  • anyone know the mode Satch uses after 5:10 ?

  • @TheBigB01 Sounds like phrygian dominant

  • @TheBigB01 E Frygian dominant ;)

  • @TheBigB01 I think it's E Phrygian Dominant

  • I would have loved to have been a Satch fan from the beginning of his career, but I'm only 17 years old. I was born too freakin' late!!

  • @BaneOfXistence4 BULLSHIT! You lucky bastard! I'm gonna hit 47 and I remember buying Satch's 'Not of this Earth' on Cassette tape. I, and oldsters like myself, have had to wait around for every album Satch produced. You--you young punk--can get it all in one go. No waiting.

Live it up. Time is on your side!

  • I own this dvd. and the Dvd version sounds much better..not just the audio quality limits of youtube..TRUST ME...although im DEFINITELY NOT dissing on the Satriani..and his incredible far out there skills. fucking bad ass. on the dvd version..in this son Satriani is wearing a Tobagin ( I know i incorrectly spelled that too lazy to google the spelling) and is playing a black Ibanez looking guitar with red flames on the front and "Silver Surfer" on the back" he shows the back at song's beginnin

  • Comment removed

  • Genious. Absolute genious. If there's a more talented and innovative guitarist alive, I sure don't know of him. This version might be the best I've seen. Great ending, and good quality upload too... thanks for sharing. Fantastic, fantastic display.

  • 2 people were having such an eargasm that they fainted onto the dislike button! thumbs up if funny!!!!

  • i love the little trick he does from 1:16 to 1:21, he plays this lick a couple of times during the song

  • @brodeur03 That's the main chorus/melody of the song

  • Comment removed

  • Eargasm from start till end.

    Best guitarist ever.

  • MIND. BLOWN.

  • Nice drums.

  • damn, to have at least one lesson with Joe would allow me to die peacefully knowing I learned from a guitar GOD!

  • it's hard to believe that half of his live performances are improvisation...

  • thats what happens when you sell your soul to Lucifer!

  • He's a simply amazing guitar player and from what I've seen in interviews, he seems like a really nice man too.

  • OMG ppl what an amazin' outro ... oh my god it was so awesome! ... probably one of the best live outro's he has ever given :) so so awesome!

  • Who's on bass?? It's not Stu, but I don't recognize who it is...

  • That would be Dave LaRue, I believe.

  • @battosaijoe indeed it is

  • Satch is the master of guru

  • OMG ppl what an amazin' outro ... oh my god it was so awesome! ... probably one of the best live outro's he has ever given :) so so awesome! ...

  • the arppegio is awesome!

  • YEAH!

  • This Music Is Alot Better Than What I Do

  • i found god...and he's part of the blu man group.

  • the longest and coolest ending to a song

  • @bbard889: no offense taken. you're right about eddie not doing anything for years, but that doesnt negate his legacy any more than keith richards' alcoholism taints his. that being said, joe is the greatest thing next to jimi and as far as the technical aspects to playing, outdoes jimi there. but eddie still deserves proper mention as a major influence and certainly top 10(and probable top 5) all time. no one could argue with that. he did influence a whole generation of guitarists.

  • greatest thing next to Jimi ? Give me a BREAK :P

  • i think Satch is way way way superior! ...

  • Such a Great Song

  • Innovator Joe !

  • @jayrillo0214 What has EVH produced in the last 15 years that is relevant?I don't want to disrespect the guy, because his playing in the late 70's through the 80's was absolutely amazing (Live Without A Net ftw)...it's just that his alcholism hasn't been kind to his playing,to say the least. It just really disappoints me to see an amazing player like that go to sh*t. Satch, for example, has done nothing but improve over the years...while EVH has done the opposite :(. Not trying to offend anyone.

  • i see no mention of eddie van halen in any of the last few pages of comments. how does he fall between the cracks? at a time when everyone was raving about the likes of randy rhoads, steve vai(granted, a young one), slash, yngwie, and kirk hammett, eddie was blowing them ALL out of the water. he's still a major influence in guitarists worldwide today. dont sleep.

  • to mention greatest guitar players, to me its someone that can be as good at creating music as they are playing it, same goes for any instrument really, it shows your know your instrument well, and satch doesnt necasserily write the most insanely complicated solos, but everything he writes is perfect to the ears and fits in place, two other people that many don't mention are marty friedman and alex skolnick, who in my books have incredible technical ability and remarkable creativity. \m/

  • @deanml1986

some of his solos are incredibly complex (musically not necesserally technically) but you make a really good point.

never heard of skolnick, ima go look him up now :)

  • Whoa shit, that's got the chill factor for sure, sends chills straight up my spine!!

  • I agree that Satch, Petrucci and Vai are the remaining greatest guitarists known today.

  • I say Satch, Vai, and Paul Gilbert are the best

  • Comment removed

  • You should remove Petrucci from that list.

  • @Cazaq YOU should stop smoking crack!

  • i honestly would put joe bonamassa in that list. i dont know if anyone else digs him as much as me, but he definitely ranks up there with satch in my opinion.

  • you're right, Minotaur313. I'm glad you mentioned MacAlpine, I got to meet him when he played with Planet X. Beautiful guy. awesome musician...

  • Yes, A lot of people forget about Tony. Brilliant musician.

I never met him, per se, but I did see him live at a Carvin demo, which is why that is now my guitar brand of choice!

  • Arguable THE best guitarist of all time. Cases can also be made for Hendrix, Petrucci, Vai, Gilbert, MacAlpine, and SRV. They are all incredible!!!

  • ye but dont forget steve vai was TAUGHT by satriani :D haha.

  • @minotaur313: he aint rock at all(as a matter of fact, he's jazz), but stanley jordan is one amazing, amazing guitarist. anyone should check him out. he's got a great "stairway to heaven" cover here on you tube...

  • @jayrillo0214 I'm VERY familiar with Stanley Jordan! GREAT guitarist, different genre.

Regarding EVH, he was THE guitarist in the late 70's and 80's, but likely BBard889 mentioned, alcoholism ruined his continued potential (this coming from a recovering alcoholic). Had Eddie remained sober, had had all the tools to be THE greatest guitarist of all time...

Still, EVH was/is one the the most influencial and innovative guitarists EVER!

  • The tapping reminds me of Scale The Summit, who were influenced by Johnny P. who was influenced by good ol' Joe:)

  • Truly a legend

I want to see him live again

  • The tapped legato arpeggio has got to be satch's best techincal appliance in any of his tracks, love it

  • Damn I absofeckinglutely love that legato riff in this tune. Gives me goosepimples. The sweeping near the end is legendary. He may have a head like a potato lol, but that's the most talented potato headed mofo i've ever seen.

  • legato riff? what do u mean?

  • By legato mate I mean the riff where he mutes the strings with his right hand and taps with the left. That isn't SPECIFICALLY the definition of legato, it's just the flowing sound it makes. I just love that riff and Satch is the master of it (as far as I know)

  • ahhh right thanks :)

  • The day Satriani hangs up his guitar is the day that music dies

  • Indeed. I hope that day never comes.

  • haha, i like that

  • i bet he dies before that,

not that i wish that to happen ok?

  • man, hes gonna be 85 years old, on stage just smokin a guitar. i think your right, but im not ashamed to admit that ill cry like a baby if satriani dies. hope that day never comes

  • Satch can never die, in the sense that his music will live on, but the fact that he IS the alien - anyone who can play like that is NOT of this earth :D

  • damn straight. i never thought of it that way

  • Well, hey, you know there's Vai, and Petrucci! The day he hangs up his guitar, (GOD FORBID) is the day music stands on its last two feet, and admits, its been a good run. Long Live Satriani.

  • @Jacksonkellyfreak Joe will never hangout up his guitar though. I think he may stop touring at one time but hes going to make music till the day he dies.

  • ive been listening to his stuff for a damn long time now but in all honesty every aspect of his playing in this vid was TOO perfect and i think the man needs a new Hobby.... but who am i kidding I hope he plays forever!!!!

  • anyone who hates Satch is lifeless and dead.

  • DAM HES GOT SKILLZ!!!!!!

he pwns da shit of da guitar!!!!

  • Satch's got head like a potato.

  • new fav satriani song

  • so catchy

  • some people that dont like or arent familiar with satch have never watched him play live actually watching him perform changes your whole perspective in my opinion and on a side note this is way better than the albulm version

  • 100% correct

  • @ironpuppy1

all of his music is better live.

  • @AtanasL lol..yeah it is IRONIC eh that his music is better live? most bands live music is ABOUT THE SAME overall or worse.lol My brother introduced me to Satriani in late 07'. the Dvd is THE BEST!

  • @ironpuppy1 all his live songs are 100 times better than album version. the albums sometimes sound too perfect and elctrical or something

  • Joe is the innovater, I don't think there's anyone like him.

  • @cattboy123

Satch has mastered the guitar in every, every possible way imaginable! ...

There is no 1 parallel to him, & there never will be another like him! ...

  • @cattboy123 joe is simply an Eddie Van Halen imitator. Despite my love of Ed. I still love and respect this guy's work. For it is truly fantastic.

  • @johnadorian dude, you're on crack if you think Joe is a Eddy imitator. Eddy doesn't even rank when talking extreme players such as Joe, Ygnwie, or Vai..etc,etc. Eddy was good at creative riffs which are classic but his playing isn't on par with any of the players mentioned. I saw all mentioned guitarist live and I can tell you for sure.... that Joe would make Eddy look like school boy at his first guitar lesson playing live.

  • @mikecamp6969 dude eddie is why joe learned to play. The stuff eddie popularized. Dive bombs. Whammy squeals. Pinch harmonics. Two hand tapping. While Joe may be an excellent guitarist. Eddie is the father of all hard rock guitarists. Preceded by Jimi Hendrix and Eric Clapton. Its all about the roots of a guitarist. Joe goes back as far back as Eddie Van Halen, speed, melodic, tapping. All of the 80's guitarists may have been individualistic, but they all followed Eddie's patterns and ideas.

  • Comment removed

  • @johnadorian WRONG - These statements just prove how much you DON"T know about Satriani. Try looking up Leonard Tristano or Billy Bauer and you'll find the roots of Satriani. Then you can move into guitarists Django Reinhardt, Wes Montgomery, Allan Holdsworth and Charlie Christian, and rock guitarists Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck and Ritchie Blackmore. Eddie - doesn't make the cut. And btw, the reason joe learned to play was because of Jimi Hendrix.

  • Makes me wanna burn my guitar, break my own fingers, and MAYBE take up the kazoo. But he's just so godamm inspiring.

  • I enjoy watching him enjoy what he is playing, he looks like he's having so much fun ententairning us and doing what he likes and what he is the best for, he is just Awesome!

  • wat a cool

    ass

name 4 a cool ass song

  • Is he of this world

  • Master at his best! Great!

  • WHAT??? satch is sweeping at 6:00!!!

its the first time i see him sweep constantly!!!

LOL i thought he did not like it band he is not excellent in this but he prooved me otherwise!

that why he is my favorite, he ALWAYS surprises me! (though i dont like sweepin sound)

  • holy crap i know

  • the end sounds like something malmsteen would play.

    Great song!

  • wow i never heard this one. those harmonics are siiiiick.

  • love the harmonics in the intro .

arpreggios did the thing. speechless...... BLOWABLAODBLOWAODLED!!hahahaha the best

    masterpiece

  • i cant hear the rythim guitar in any song of this dvd =D

  • yeah same here maybe his amp isnt turned on ;) no just kidding but youre right the mix of the scond guitar is really low

  • i dont give a shit

  • one does not simply rock into mordor

  • LOL!

  • totally freakin sick guitar work. hendrix opened the door satchmo framed it!

  • Best Rockn'n Roll ever!!!!!!!!!!

  • LOL

  • love the arpeggio lick

  • TRUELY ONE OF THE GODS

  • I'm pretty sure this as been said as least 1000 times but he sure makes it look easy!

  • Salute to Joe, his live performances are awesome, he can play at least 95% similarity than the album version. Even Malmsteen could not do this haha

  • insane harmonic minor shredding at 5:08!!!!

  • The best rock guitar player on the planet. The drummer kicks ass too.

  • nice work joe!

  • 1:38 just blew my mind.

  • Hey Would Any Of You Guys Be Able To Tell Me Which JS Model Satch Is Playing???...It Looks Like A Black JS1000-1200...But If Anyone Can Tell Me Which Model It Is. Much Appreciated.

  • JS1200 is candy apple red. That's a black pearl JS1000.

  • satch gets custom finishes on his guitar but i think it is a js-1000 but not black pearl

  • Nope, that's a black pearl. Looks identical to any one you can pick up at guitar center. Later in the concert he plays a really beat up chrome boy that looks black from all the wear, but this one is actually a BP.

I've also read that for this concert Satch agreed to play more of his production models to help boost Ibanez' sales, hence he plays the BP and 1200 more often than the alumboy, chromeboy, or an graphic finish ones.

  • he only has one JS 1200 and its a candy apple red 7 string .... he used it in one of the g3 vids for searching... i think this one is jus a js1000 in chrome black

  • The one in the Japan G3 Searching is transparent red. It looks like a Js100, but 7 string, to me, with the black headstock and all.

  • I'm a big fan of satch but would love to see some footage of him playing some shockingly bum notes....anyone know of anything?

  • what do you mean? im a satch geek, perhaps i could help you..

  • What I mean is, do you know of any vid clips of satch making mistakes?

  • He doesn't really. Ive seen him live a couple times, and have watched many videos. He doesn't really miss notes or anything. If he does, it's somehow thrown into the song and therefore not noticed.

  • sorry to take that idea completly out... but satch is at a stage where in all honesty... he jus doesnt make mistakes... particulary live

  • yeah sorry my mistake thats sweeping i thought you meant a different part... woops!

  • he loves it :) such nice arpeggios :)

  • he's not sweeping... he's playing arpeggios yes, but not sweeping...

  • It's definitely sweeping. You can tell (especially) by watching his picking hand.

  • the one he puts on the neck and keeps there out of the way while he's doing the arpeggios? i'd imagine it'd be pretty hard to sweerp pick while your hand is on the neck of the guitar like that... I mean i'm sure satch could if he wanted cause he's just amazing...

  • I tihnk this is the most ive ever seen him sweep at once.

  • Satch looks so happy when he plays.

  • i gotta get the tabs to this thing, satch rocks hard man!
