  • Salsa originated from Cuba but has since proliferated around the world with many different styles evolving from many regions globally. The more common styles today being New York (Mambo) style, Los Angeles style (what you see in the above video), Colombian style and the original Cuban style. Other styles also include Puerto Rican and Miami.

What style appeals to you is purely a subjective one. Comparing them would be like comparing the proverbial apples and oranges. Pick a style and enjoy! :)

  • PIENSO K BAILARON BIEN. NO VI TANTA ACROBACIA COMO EN OTROS BAILADORES.ME GUSTO MUCHO LA VUELTA EN ELPISO. ESTOY D ACUERDO CONQUE NO HAY MUCHOS PASOS. LO K PASA K ES UNA SALSA MAS MODERNA.

  • I suggest they do gymnastics or work at a circus as acrobats, THIS IS NOT SALSA!!

  • can anybody tell me what's the name of the song plz??

  • Man bumo what the rest say, it takes skill to do any of the moves, They were hot, and the best ive seen so far. Mabey not the best in the world, or traditional but whose to judge. They did good either way you put it. and made it look effortless.

  • @garotaww : totalmente dacuerdo !!

  • indeed they suck , especially the guy , he's slow slob ,the lady is just doing ice skating figures

  • My concern will be if this couple won the on 1 division for 3 years, where are other great salsa dancers? or are the judges here are too opinionated?

    Anyone comment?

  • this people suck, they need some classes from cali locombia the best

  • Not from Cali, from CUBA!

  • pllss.. can somebody tell me how the songs are called in the video? loove them allll :O

    thank u all

  • nice step from 1:46!!!

  • You can totally see why they won, they are smooth dancers, in time with every beat, and interesting to watch. :)

  • What name is of this song ---> 0:50 please tell me

  • the song is JUSTICIA - EDDIE PALMIERI

  • People just relax obviously this isn't street salsa it's a ballroom competition...everyone dances differently in a variety of styles and there are many. If everyone danced the exact same it would be boring. How sad saying that only certain people from certain countries are allowed to dance this type of dance.

  • Actually for those who claim this kind of dancing does not respect a count you're pretty wrong and don't know anything about salsa styles, as casino, on1, on2 and caleño also have a count, even when spinning you respect that count (8 beats) get your facts right and then speak, otherwise you're making a fool of yourselves.

  • jajaja, counted has been created generally for peoples that doesn't know how to move, how to shared the parameters of your body rhythmically, starting from foot, legs and hip. has been demonstrated that peoples who use to dance on count ( 1,2,3 and so, the Cuban music has been always difficult for then to dance!, so to dance rhythmically you need to know how to dance, not to focus on 1,2,3 better is to teach when you change your rhythm on piano, drum, maracas+clave.

  • You use de count at the beginning but once you have the experience you can dance not just with the count but with all the instruments, i am not saying that cuban dance is bad, it's great, but man if you don't know anything about the other styles, how can you dare snaying bad stuff of them?

  • And when you start dancing you must learn a pattern, then you increase your movements based on that, otherwise you will be moving without any sense, all dance styles have a count, ALL!!

  • MrPurenfu: they called Salsa to promote thier event and that is pity. cos this is no Salsa.

Wikipedia said: Salsa is the commonly name used to describe a mixture of several styles of Cuban music. Salsa is not a rhythm, Salsa is a commercial name that was adopted in the early seventies, to put under one roof a lot of movements that the world public confused and not enough to differentiate, as in the case of the guaracha, guaguanco, mambo, cha cha cha, boogaloo, etc Son is the base!.

  • Yes you are right dear friend. I learn this music and dance a very long time ago. And the Cuban Ambassador in my homeland (not USA) also taught me a lot of things especially the history of the music and dance. Son is the base of it. From there, Cuban artists created Mambo, after that Cha cha cha and so on and so on. I bet all the ballroom dancers don't know nothing about this. And still they have the guts to call this Salsa.

  • @vegatu This sh*t has nothing to do with REAL Salsa.Agree 100% with you!

  • Open your eyes first. Get your fact right and then speak, with your perfect English of course. Bravo man. Bravo. I bow to your wisdom. Phfft!

  • Hey Mr. newjersi08, you really need to give it a rest or you gonna get yourself a severe heart attack for being too emotional. You are too angry that you got carried so far away from the original topic . If you cannot beat people in a debate, don't start to attack them from the way the are speaking. Who's the "Ethnocentric Bigots" now? Man you are really funny.

  • This is not Salsa, it's maybe a ballroom!

because you have to dance on tempo otherwise you are doing some clown job!, and in here there's no rhythm = beat in this dance, there's a lot of acrobatics move, so please do not call salsa to this "casino has their count" salsa is not a rhythm is a comercial name that hass been adapted early 70's

  • is no my theroy' it's the true papi!

or go to Wikipedia, largest encyclopedia on the Internet.

let the latin talk about it, if you're american you can talk or debate about war.! no about Salsa!.

  • hey newjersi08! Shut the fuck up. You don't even know what you are talking about. Stop attacking people like you are the only one here who can speak English. If you wanna talk about dancing, then you better stay away from the topic about Salsa or any Latin American Dance because you obviously don't have aclue about the dance.

Vegatu and Indosocialista, you are right fellas. This video is not about Salsa at all. They maybe good in ballroom dance, but damn! definitely not salsa.

  • I agree with MrPurefun saying that they were not really doing salsa moves. But at the same time they weren't doing decent ballroom (latin) dancing either. They are not even close to other top ballroom dancers.

So if it can't be a good salsa, then it can't be a good ballroom either (off time). They do OK in acrobatical turns but that's about it.

  • Do you know how many people in the whole world read Wikipedia? Are you really sure that none of those people went to school?

My God, you must be so genius. 'Coz you are the only one who actually never read Wikipedia

  • Vegatu, I am agree with you. In Berlin International Salsa Festival last year, the committee of the festival stated clearly that acrobatic movement like this is not supposed to be considered salsa and were not allowed to be shown in the competition during the festival. So the International world agreed that this is not Salsa at all.

My God, they didn't even show salsa steps at all. How can they even call this gymnastic movement as Salsa.

  • And again, you fucking newjersi08 mother fucker, you are the only one here saying this is Salsa while it's obvious that the other is not agree with you. Man you are pathetic. Calling people names while you are the one who is actually the BIGGEST ASS in this site! GO fuck yourself and your Maricon Dance.

  • hey my friend your topic about Salsa is the reality,it is the same wit that Cali-Colombian stile, they call that Salsa but they do to many acrobatic staff on it.

i thik the Cuban Son is the best an original one,the others are just a fake to make money

  • that's true, calling it Salsa is leading the way to sell their event, that's all. making show is another way to rise up their business, because casino "salsa" is one of the most difficult dancing couples ever, to do it, you and your partner must learn a Mambo, Chachacha, Guaguanco-Rumba basic steps, then you will know by listening the music when you have to use Mambo, Guaguanco-Rumba and Chacha during your dance. teaching wrong! the poor quality of the dance is rise up.

  • jajaja man you're so funny, some of your facts are right but not all of them, if you wan't some true facts don't go to wikipedia jajaja that's for dumb people who doesn't know how to investigate, it's the "easy and fastest" way of getting info but some of the info there is far from true.

  • I definitely agree with you. No offends to any countries mentioned, but this reality really sucks.

  • @vegatu do you think salsa is not a ballroom

    check it out!

  • Plop.

  • amazing!

  • Good dancer. Very very good Latin ballroom dancer. But that is absolutely not Salsa.

That is acrobatic turns and stunts done with mambo music without any Salsa step at all.

They totally messed up the idea of Salsa.

Salsa was originally made in Cuba by the name Casino. That's the original name. And Cuban Style is the only real Salsa. The other styles are just mostly acrobatic movements.

If you wanna see how is THE REAL SALSA, see all the video of Yanek Revilla. Timba y tremendo despelote.

  • REDICULOUS.

Does that mean that the Viennese can

only do the best Viennese waltz?

Or the Irish from Ireland can only do clog

    dancing?

You are about the biggest ASS that

    ever posted on this site.

  • Relax. don't need to get all jumpy. I wonder why you are sooooo mad. That is just an opinion. And definitely, you are very wrong about me. I spent my live traveling around the world. Not just Cuba. I lived in Cuba only for a couple of years. I have been in many places and seen many things much more than you have.

  • (PART3)

I also travel around the world, and there's

one thing I do understand that you don't.

The world in general is not contained by

'borders' anymore, except in the mind

    of politicians and 'ethnocentric' bigots.

  • My point is only about the so called "Salsa". And I always respect originality. For me, changing the real thing completely and still call it the same thing is very very wrong. Ballroom dance in particular has completely changed the idea of many original dances. Especially Latin dances.

  • (PART1) You really don't have a strong point to go.

on. And you really can't stop the influence

of ANY dance from Not being influenced

by the ever changing impact of musicians

and dancers who keep all things considered 'dance' and 'music'

in the perpetual state of being 'dynamic''.

It would be a VERY boring 'sub-cult'

this whole idea of dance and music

if it 'at' least---- it never changed

    somewhat----to keep it fresh.

  • No need to get all freaked out man. You can keep your comment about Viennese or Irish or whoever to yourself. It's really irrelevant.

    Once again, RELAX.

  • (PART 2) I cannot keep my comments to myself. This is the 'internet'...' mind you.

If you can express your comments on this open format for all the world to see,

then...so can I-----and I will express my views

as well you can ----and in a more highly organized, insightful manor than you might never be able to do. So...

reading your posts here only indicates your writing skills are not your forte.

Expressing your ideas in written form

    aren't your strong 'point' either!

  • Their Dance Is OK....

Watch the 1st Place on 2nd Divsion Video.... Oliver & Luda; They're Just the Best................

  • wow ;)

Felicidades a ambos bailarines.

  • Great spins, shame about the salsa -- or the total lack of it.

  • World Salsa Championships: 1rst place!

  • World Salsa Championships: 1rst place!

come on!, World top's gymnast without any Salsa experience can shred this Salsa Championships event. (doing those kind of summersault they won't have adversary )

    agree with Ramlex33, nuez17

Salsa: this beautiful dance has only one land to follow CUBA.

    Cuba is the legendary land-dancer.

The world greatest salsa dancer are inside Cuba and top's world teacher are Cuban, no doubt about it.

Better, the cuban can shred this event. sure!

  • It's quite a shame that you feel

the worlds greatest 'salsa dancers are only 'inside Cuba' Would you prefer Cuba have a wall

around it for the rest of eternity and remain

a mystery? Well...sorry to bust your bubble

but the word has been out for quite some time, and not only are other nationalities

dancing salsa, but different races from around the world are too!

  • PART 2.

Seeing your home page I can see you're up there in age. You're not a spring chicken anymore. So you may as well

let the young kids come in and do this

dance that you'll never be able to keep in

it's 'pure' form that you feel how it should be danced like.

Fifty years from now you will be pushing up daisies, and what you know as 'salsa'

    may change,

  • PART 3.

Rememeber, the only thing that is constant in life are:' Death and Taxes'.

Besides, it's a good thing that young kids

like Abel and Sulmara are adding a different approach, technique, and style,

to this dance. If there wasn't variety within

this sub-culture of the dance world, it

    would be extremely mundane, boring,

    and eventually burn everybody out

because it would all look the same.

  • PART4 In conclusion, 'Variety is the spice of life'. Even when it comes to dance styles and techniques, theres always room for more experimentaion. Thank you. And may you eventually become more tolerant and understanding of your fellow human beings. They all like to dance and listen to the music just like you do, so please don't deny other people their right to express themselves, even on the dance floor.
  • A 2 minute display of technique makes someone a world salsa champion! A world champion should represent the spirit of salsa... Salsa is spontaneous, it's about feeling the music and having fun. To me, routines like this one, should be made and performed in a manner which would cheer up and inspire the viewer to dance himself. A world champion should do this the best. Here there is hardly any relation to the music and the viewer, just a list of moves, performed to impress the judges.

  • man patiko gerai soka ir muzika parinkta gera.

  • at 1:33 is it possible to twist the arm that way without breaking it? omg

    sapete il nome della canzone?

    the name of the song?

    grazie =)

  • i agree that colombian salsa it realy good and it is!! but my self i love puertorican salsa i mean the way the dance, the colombian are faster and thats it. and the the puertorican are more whit style, they both good.

am from new york and i seen whit my own eyes the better salsa dancer and one of them and the best its? eddie torres...

  • te quiero mucho lisett

  • JaJa....

  • i love it because they actually dance,

so many competition routines are all lifts and tricks

    love it!

  • Salsa is not even from Colombia, how can you claim all that shit?. Are you getting high with some Colombian weed or something?. You are good only when it comes to dancing Cumbia and all those indigenous dances, so STFU and stop filling your mouth with horse-shit. Colombia is good only when it comes to manufacturing cocaine and drugs. Other than that, your presence on planet Earth is a waste of mother nature's human guano. Now fuck off you aborigine piece of shit! You make me puke!

  • i pity you. You're just an ignorant. You don't know anything about salsa or colombia. You only know how to curse and insult people. It's a shame that there are people like you in the world. No wonder there's so much violence and intolerance in the world. please Get informed and learn first. Or at least keep your mouth shut. Keep silent, "silentgrindage"

  • Although i can dance salsa, this dancing moves is a little hard 4 me....

    x)

  • eso no es salsa, that is not salsa, in Cuba and Mexico are better dancers, thas just a show dance and it has its dificult, but is not salsa

  • ./agree

  • I can't agree more. Real salsa its about feeling it and its not necessary all this movements BUT is salon dance so ...

  • I got to see them live and It was amazing. (not at this event)

  • Hottest routine EVER!

  • the girl could dance the boy got into at parts but she could have used a more creative more passionate partner. . .they had very little chemistry as a dance couple and it showed

  • wow very good structure and great job with the turns :)

  • perfect

  • Nice.

  • Er, let me get back to you on that when my head stops spinning...wow.

  • Beautiful and amazing.

  • with all respect...THE BADDEST BITCH OF SALSA AWARD has been claimed!!! Sexy classy and beautiful dancing!!

  • she did the spins perfectly and danced with rhythm and with idk..."sabor" i liked it a lot

  • l'uomo è un raccomandato

    la donna, una frullatrice

    totale => cacca

  • OMG!!!

    P E R F E C T =)

  • i am amazed at how the women dance with those heels! i guess its practice. brilliant.

  • tremendo!!!!

  • woww ,,!!

  • i love them!!!!!

    and i love the song!!

can u tell me singer and title please?

    thank u

    xxx

  • they provide an excellent example of the diversity of salsa dance; different from Junior's lighting speed, their breath taking pose executed with wonderful pauses; giving the spectator ample opportunity for appreciation and visual enjoyment.

  • what is the title of this song? :D

  • BRAVO !!!!!!

  • Leon Eioyaccu

    19.09.2008

These two Salsa dancers are most welcomed to visit Charing Cross Salsa bar, London, England & give an enjoyment dance demonstration.

I am sure the club Salsa fans will admiringly appreciate their performance & excel to a higher level of dancing.

  • Leon Eioyaccu

    19.09.2008

Abel & Zulmara first place dance position in the World Salsa 2006 Championship is esoteric & is exciting abtuse hot salsa.

This composition with another scene addition of the beauty of the 'walking' parade of Miss World contest in bikini & evening dresswear is the fire that I have been looking for, yes for my next long awaited new film genre

All I need is another two more film scenes to take to the film studio.

  • chingonsisimo

  • wo0o0ow,, i love it i hope to learn how to dance like this someday>>>>>>>>>.

  • brillante!

Animese!

  • It is sad day when Mexicans dance Latin music like "gringos". Ballroom.

This is NO "World" Championship. Where is Cuba? Salsa basically is afro-Cuban music. They invented it and they weren't good enough to make it to the finals of the "World" Salsa Championships?

What a farce !! a better name is the Las Vegas Latin Ballroom Salsa Championships.

I put Las Vegas because I am sure there are better Latin Ballroom Salsa in the rest of the country.

  • timbero1 - Ballroom dancing is the foundation of all the partner dancing. If Spaniards did not bring Ballroom dancing with them, there would not be any salsa dancing.

Although it is true that without African rhythm, salsa music would be energy-less and boring.

What do the Mexicans think about their contributions towards the birth of salsa dancing?

  • If you take "Ballroom" as meaning any partner dance danced in ballrooms, you are right. Partner dancing came from Europeans.

I was refering to the more common meaning associated "Ballroom" nowadays - Modern Ballroom, Dancesport, International Standard.

So, are you telling me the Ballroom tango that is commonly taught today is the foundation of Argentine tango?

There is no Mexican contibution to salsa dancing. It is not part of popular culture , no internationally known artists.

  • timbero1 - Ballroom dance in general is the foundation of Argentine Tango also.

However, then Ballroom Tango was created later and Ballroom Tango was influenced by Argentine Tango. In Ballroom Tango the moves are memorized, but in Argentine Tango moves are improvised.
