This movie is about a child who's been abducted; no one knows where she is, and her mother appears to be the worst mother in the world (in spite of what this trailer shows). Gone, Baby, Gone are the words pronounced by a man to say that Amanda (the child) is gone, and that she may not reappear. All the movie is about this abduction, who appears to be more complicated than expected.

This films is beyond explanation how good it is.

It's not so much underrated as it is unnoticed. But even rated a respectable 7.9 on IMDb, it IS underrated.

Please watch this film whomever reads this, i highly recommend it.

By the way, it HAS NO far-fetches, story sweeping, over-dramatisations or cliches. I think its perfect (well the main female character i kinda useless, but other than!)

They had to delay this film in the UK because it was due to come out at pretty much the same time she vanished - and because they were very similar. But there are other stories it could be based on, I guess.

I just can't take this film seriously, anyone who's read the books I'm sure knows why. Caseys a great actor, Jesse James was amazing, but as Patrick it just doesn't fit. He looks far too young and naive. At 1:05, is that supposed to be Bubba? Bubba isn't a round guy, he's a giant. I just can't take these actors seriously in these parts. Read the books, they're far better trust me.

@AKenjiB There are a lot of movies I don't like that everyone seems to love. IMO, one of the most important aspects of a good film is having a believable cast. Even if the acting is solid, which it looks to be in this film, if I can't believe these characters are real I'm not going to thoroughly enjoy the movie. It's better to cast lesser-known actors in movies with niche settings. I will never believe Morgan Freeman is a Boston cop because he doesn't have the accent, image or demeanor.

@pnoozi Now, Renner (The Town) and Di Caprio (The Departed) come to mind. They're both A-list actors not from Boston playing leading roles in Boston crime films. I hate to say it but they both have the advantage of being white. Tattoo them up a little bit, give them some swag and have them put on an accent and you've got a believable role. I can see it clearly from this trailer that Morgan Freeman rests on his laurels and plays Morgan Freeman in this film. Some great actors lack versatility.

Ben Affleck can put a scene together. He can pull great performances from a stellar cast. He should work on his pacing and storytelling -- this movie goes of the rails in the last 20 minutes and the editing here is terrible.
