Why is Mene Gene interviewing that hairy child? LOL Roddy Piper spoke it like it was. I loved hearing him and Jesse Ventura cause they spoke the gospel. lol. Love them both. As for Alan Hunter...god bless MTV for hiring him. He was one of my faves.
Roddy Piper is basically pro-wrestling's Robin Williams. Not sure if the guy was coked up back then, but damn he had all that energy and brilliance. Didn't look contrived unlike people right now where everyone is a cookie cutter clone of one another.
Even though in retrospect you knew Piper wouldn't get the belt, it makes you kinda wonder what it would've been like if McMahon took a different road and put it on him.
When Mean Gene called this, "...the tip of the iceberg," I'd be hard-pressed to believe he really had any idea as to just what this night did for professional wrestling. In essence, it led to the first "Wrestlemania" PPV, which changed wrestling forever.
For those who aren't sure what Roddy means by "da planes!!!..." at Danny DaVito, here it is: Back in the 70s, there was a TV show called "Fantasy Island" about a vacationing resort island staring the late great Ricardo Montalban; at the openning of the show, an airplane delivering tourists arrives and a midget co-host named Tattoo (played by another late great Herve Vollichaize) rings a tower bell shouting , "dee plane! dee plane!!!"...It became a popular moto for small people for many years...
Mann, the days when Tv and Movies truly contributed to real great entertainment. Shows that everybody could watch.. not just on HBO and all the swearing n stuff.
As the first half of this with Lauper, Mr. T, Lou Albano, Hulk Hogan, Joe Piscopo, Andy Warhol & Billy Squier wasn't good enough, then we get DeVito, then Piper totally dissing DeVito and calling Mr. T "The little black guy" (bald guys face behind Piper is priceless when he hears that). God Piper is great, and this 13 minutes of post-match interviews was wrestling GOLD. "God was he WET!"
@1975tooto Mann, they ALL cut their own stuff. Unscripted, just came on camera. The difference was if you wanted to make it to that level, you already had many years in the territories where only the creme de la creme rose to the top. Basically survival of the fittest. So by this time, they were already rolling.. gawd how I miss those days.
