@LazerChachi Well from what I can tell it's only down one half step. Usually, artists do this so that the singer(s) can hit the higher notes a bit easier than they would in the original key. :) Trust me. I'd rather have him sing it in the key this was originally written too. Lol.
People saying he uses autotune to improve his voice are talking a load of nonsense. Type the following in the search box:
Rick Astley medley live 2008
and watch that LIVE performance. Perfectly in key, perhaps his greatest ever live performance. No autotune - totally live.
He can sing live as good as he can on albums and singles. Check out the Jools Holland live performance of Cry For Help. Incredible - as good as the original single version.
Rick Astley, The Love has Gone, Esbjerg, 17-11-2008
Incredible LIVE performance - perfectly in tune. Sounds exactly like the version on the album. Rick can sing live as good as he does in a studio. I trust the three videos I've suggested prove that!
@SuperSaiyanPossums not necessarily. there is a huge difference between studio and live -- depending on the venue and sound engineers a less than quality vocal performance is merely an issue of not being able to hear yourself. just because someone has a good voice on a recording and not the same quality live doesn't automatically mean they use autotune.
I'm not saying he has a bad voice, I'm not saying I don't respect him, I'm just saying it's clear from the artifacts in the recorded version that he does use autotune in it. With no other evidence. I'm not saying it because of the change between live and recorded, I'm saying it because the tonal qualities of a significantly autotuned voice are obvious to a careful listener.
@SuperSaiyanPossums You're watching a really crappy video here, though. That and the live version is played in a lower key. Probably to make it easier on his voice.
@AlexPlaysGames I'm not saying he needs it, I'm saying he does use it. That's all. And I'm also only talking about the studio version when I say he uses it. I never said anything about him using it live.
@SuperSaiyanPossums The quality of the sound isn't good either. But Rick Astley doesn't need autotune. Watch him singing live When I fall in love in Chile one year ago : watch?v=uhqP9ymDmXc . He has an amazing voice.
Quality of voice on individual performances depends on how much you warmed up your voice, if you can hear yourself and if you used your voice too much in talking and shouting.
yes live, is better than the official

Why do they drop the key down for the live performance? I am used to hearing it in the key used in the studio version, this just sounds weird.
