  • Not really into the singer, but what an arrangement and beautiful trumpet performance! Don't get me wrong, the singer is allright. Just feels a little too "operatic" for my liking...

  • funny how everyone comments on the singing...the trumpet is the center piece!

  • Nicely done.

  • What a voice! I am a huge fan!!!

  • VERY CUTE!!!

  • I love her singing voice for opera but I don't think she's well suited for jazz.

  • @blueworldly I agree, but it's sure fun to hear her try.

  • she does no good to jazz music.

  • she does no good to jazz music.

  • WOW! Totally luscious;Sarah and the song. For a really great contrast, listen to her sing Rule Britannia, also on YouTube.

  • Classical singers should not try to interpret jazz. this has as much soul as a slice of wonderbread.

  • @Rudytutti I'm inclined to agree with you. Jazz is very soulful and relaxed in some ways. She seems a bit too worried to let herself go and sings it so polished.

  • @adam4757 Hey, it was in front of millions LIVE!!! Who wouldn't be a tad worried?!

  • @mouslets5 But she performs the earlier work Purcell's "When I laid in earth", she performs it so effortlessly. Opera is where her voice is best suited.

  • Farstarfilms, get with it! It's music, and can be done by anybody as long as it's done well! If we can let "people of color" go onto the opera stage, we can let "whites" into jazz!

  • @farstarfilms If you think that only people of color should sing this song because it was historically so, then should we bar colored people from singing any of the European classical repertoire?

  • okay...that scatin' was fantastic though

  • ha yeah she can sing jazz...like i can rap. she can do it, but she shouldn't.

  • WOW I am so embrassed to see that there are no people of color especially with this song!! I guess you can rewrite history!! What a joke her singing this is like nails on a black board!!! LOL

  • @farstarfilms The song was written by a couple of white guys.

  • @ITCJon written for black singer etc

  • @farstarfilms I was not aware that Fred Astaire was black!

  • @ITCJon LOL!

  • Sarah Connolly gave a jazz recital at the Edinburgh Festival this year, with pianist John Horler. It would be so interesting to hear it. I wonder if it was recorded?

  • Have you noticed that nearly all of the British concert soloists are just beautiful. The ladies are great, the men look like men. I think that's why your music is so outstanding. Here in the US, we couldn't do it because we've got to have 15% the fat ones, 12% blacks, 8% moslums, 16% hispanics, 4% indians. We don't create bands for the music, but for diversity. Go England!! Oh, yes, I duly note that there ain't no rap at the proms.

  • @Robert11xyz good point. Pc kills things.

  • she is fantastic at the sob/speech quality go sarah !!!! and alison balsom is amazing

  • YES!!!!!!!! An opera singer who can sing non-classical music!!!!!

  • I love it when you see a performer really enjoying themself.

  • Sarah and Alison in the same show? Does it get much better than this people! I've actually never heard Alison do the jazz thing before....pleasantly surprised, she really fills that harmon right up and I love how she sounds with the bucket too!

  • Well, one thing I would like to know is if that solo at the start has written then memarized by her or is she is improvising?

  • what a beautiful music and tremendous mix of Jazz,Swing and classic -great -like it

  • Sarah Connolly rocks! She really showed how fantastically versatile she is at the Last Night. Brilliant!

  • sarah connolly is just superb, she sings like.... ouaouh!!

  • Wonderful!

    Alison is so hot!

  • That

  • it's called scat singing, awesome stuff.

i heard this live and it was so immense! alison balsom is such a versatile player

  • What do you call that, from 3:00 to 3:30? Vocal soloing? Is there a real name for it? I'd really like to know.

  • Scat.

  • Frank is spinning like a top.

  • I love the sound quality of the trumpet mute = ]

  • Love that voice & equally love that trumpet playing. What a joy to watch & listen to. Thanks for sharing this wonderful version of the classic Gershwin romantic ballad with us! :)

  • What a delight it was to find this here on youtube! I loved the whole concert, but especially this Gershwin and I'm just high again seeing it here. Thanks for uploading it!

  • Thanks for posting this - much appreciated!

  • This is great! She looks and sounds stunning in this. Many thanks for uploading!

  • wow! thanks for your express-uploading! i just wanted to see this so eagerly. this is an another sarah connolly again. what a versatility!

i've heard that she once wanted to be a Jazz-singer. as we can see, she has so much fun with the gershwin-number..

  • I read an interview where she said she used to do her own Gershwin arrangements, both for voice and piano. She also played with jazz musicians in her piano days. No wonder she looks and sounds so wonderfully at ease in this sort of thing!
