I hope you contacted a vet. Even if the baby couldn't have survived anymore in the wild like this, some people maybe it still could have survived with the help of compassionate human beings who care for it.
I thought rabid animals attack anything close to them? I know when I saw a rabid raccoon it chased after me until I picked up a sharpend stick and it ran right into it...poor raccoon, as long as I put it out of its misery
@Residew nobody would have been able to save her. With rabies she can't eat, drink or sleep. She was probably on the brink of death since she was too weak to walk. Its was more humane for them to shoot her rather than let her slowly starve to death and infect other animals.
wen this happens all that can be done is shooting it in the back of the neck close to the head even if you took it to a vet and it lived it would have ben dead because its still to young to make it on its own
@noahboa13000 Well, all that can be done is putting it down one way or another. There's isn't much else a vet could have done either. Also, doesn't much matter where they shot it though that'd be the most painless with a gun.
so sad that just a baby had to die such a painful death. though instead of trying to feed it, i probably would've lassoed it and tied it to a tree while i waited for animal control. i wish they could've given it a gentler death then shooting it, though. :( breaks my heart
A few months ago a fox went in our backyard n was messing around, I didn't see it then but I guess it was just staring at one of our dogs that was on it's chain outside near our other dog's house n a cop came n shot it once n then again point blank in the head, pretty freaky.
we didn't find out if it had rabies, the guy said it was either rabies or it was distempered or something.
yep, why did you throw an apple at it, that was uneccesary, maybe you should've tried to comfort it in some way, or maybe leave it be and then call whoevevr you called
@ermcovers what the hell can you do to help a rabid animal??? there is no cure for rabies anywhere in the world for any species, not even for rabid humans you dumb asshole.
that is one of the most heartbreaking videos i have ever seen next to the one where the little kid was infected with it at late stage.... what an awful diease.
Huh. Usually I can tell by how they act, but I never would have thought that one had it. World continues to surprise me. Bet that scared you, friend. You got any pets? Would of freaked me out I'd have had my dogs in the vet's office so fast.
@JPGuitarGuyFutrell and again, you are killing primarily herbivores who are not going to go hungry given the abundance of plants. So in reality- you're killing prey for other animals.. you're causing starvation.
@Shane42289 and again, you show how ignorant you truly are of the way things stand vs. how they are supposed to be naturally. The main predators of deer are the wolves and the mountain lions and on occasion coyote's. However, due to mankinds push into their territory and the resulting decimation of the population of predators, the herbivores populations go unchecked. I know because the deer population in my area is WAAY too high. The natural predators can't balance the population
@Shane42289 because the predators aren't there. Now, that being said, ideally, people would only have to "take" from nature what we would need to survive. However, as I've said many times, mankind has messed up the balance of nature. The fact that we live in cities, have cars, and have these computers which you insist upon flaunting your bleeding heart ignorance through is proof of that. Now, you can argue this point until you're blue in the face but the facts are as such.
@Shane42289 1. The population of herbivores and predators are supposed to be naturally balanced.
2. Due to the lack of predators due to mankinds encroaching on their territory and exterminating them in order to preserve their "safety" the population of herbivores such as deer go up.
3. When the population of the herbivores goes up they overpopulate the area which leads to either A. Lack of food or B. Genetic deformity.
@Shane42289 4. Due to mankind's being the only viable source of predation to the population of certain herbivores such as deer, we can either A. Use that ability and become predators or B. let the population abound and watch blithely as said population either starves or falls victim to genetic deformity or disease. There is a reason that when something such as Chronic Wasting Disease becomes present in a local population of deer that deer culls are encouraged.
@Shane42289 In summary, life is supposed to be a massive balancing act. Mankind in general messed up that balance and now has to take the repercussions of those actions which threw the ecosystem out of balance. Now, I realize that this information is likely falling on blind eyes/deaf ears in your case, however... maybe it will show somebody how hunting is not just sport, but actually something necessary now due to the actions of mankind. Food for thought.
@JPGuitarGuyFutrell I can't imagine it would fall on deaf ears, I'm not an ignorant person. In fact quite the opposite I have an open mind for things that have evidence. I just ask that you back up your claims- what are you referring to when talking about the balance we have thrown off- and what animals should be killed/what will this accomplish for the ecosystem?
@Shane42289 nature has a balance. look in a forest that hasn't been hunted or had loggers come through it. Its in balance. the Populations are kept in check via predators or disease. Even the trees are kept in balance as only the stronger specimens survive, the others die off and the old trees fall. Mankind has thrown off the balance of nature in many areas by killing the local predatory populations.
@Shane42289 as for which animals should be killed/what this will accomplish for the ecosystem, a sort of balance is maintained by hunters taking to the woods and taking only a specified number deer in that they don't overpopulate and fall victim to either genetic deformation or chronic wasting disease or something similar, but also so the population doesn't become overhunted and therefore underpopulated in that area, again with the specified number of deer to be harvested.
@Shane42289 basically what I'm getting at is that while often maligned as killing solely for sport(which isn't true), hunters actually play a viable role in the ecosystems of today in that the species we hunt are now without predators because we hunted those predators off. A key example would be the Texas Red Wolf that was native to where I live. Now, you can't find them in the wild. They have been assumed extinct in Texas which is honestly very saddening to me.
@JPGuitarGuyFutrell Right so hunters sent a species of wolf into extinction by hunting them... But perhaps im wrong when I say that wolf doesn't strike me as the most popular game. I tend to think more of deer, geese, rabbit, quail, turkey, aka mostly harmless stuff- What I'm essentially saying is I'm not seeing how killing non predatory animals is helping the ecosystem as that is a substantial claim
@Shane42289 ok, to your first question. If there are too many deer in an ecosystem, they will eventually eat most all of the food supply in that area that deer typically feed on. Thus, its a lack of food for them. As for "popular game", its the same story. That's why there are "seasons" in which you can hunt a certain game animal and why those seasons only have so many days to them. There's a reason its called "game management"
@JPGuitarGuyFutrell So once again I questioned how hunting educated you on humane treatment of animals- I don't recall saying I would like to stop predators from feeding, in fact sharks are one of those 'environment jargons' that help clean up dead animals in the ocean, which is a good thing. Again you're telling yourself that you're doing a service to population control and I'm not seeing it when there has to be laws to prohibit you from doing so in order to protect the species.
@JPGuitarGuyFutrell And if you want to shoot animals to feed yourself/your family then I didn't argue that. I merely questioned what makes you an expert on humane treatment of animals when you shoot them for sport.
@timtrucker1 Care to share some statistical data? I don't know how you believe excess deer is going to cause wildlife anarchy and starvation. They eat grass and get eaten by predators.
If we don't hunt them, their population gets out of control. As it is they cause so many car accidents and ravage the ecosystem here. It's not inhumane to hunt them IT IS CALLED NATURE and it keeps the balance.
If we don't hunt them they consume all of the resources and spread diseases and impact other species. Rabies starts and more of them suffer and infect other deer and the wild cats, feral dogs, and buzzards that eat them.
@PhyrexianxRebirth That has nothing to do with this video. We all know what NATURE is, it just doesn't have to be tormented as it's trying to run away while dying.
@timtrucker1 That's why animals have to be protected by federal government so you don't push them into extinction. I'm not an environmentalist nor a wildlife conservationist, I'm just saying you kill animals for sport I'd like to hear why this educates you on being humane. I do know that many natural habitats help the environment function (i.e. coral reefs help prevent tsunamis, bees pollenate fruit) Yet most 'game' you hunt are herbivores- so aren't you causing starvation for the carnivores?
@catbeweird It doesn't need to have a foaming mouth. It would serve you well to understand what rabies look like in animals, and this is definitely a rabid deer. It's incredibly sad because it's obviously a baby, but it is rabid. Look at the way it was having problems walking- fawns are up and walking fine within a few hours after birth, and is then able to keep up with its mother in another week. This poor creature could barely stand.
@supahninjadojo They shot at it to put it out of its misery. Also, they probably knew from experience it was rabid and didn't want to risk the chance of the rabies spreading.
@Snowcatclaw no, fabies isn't fatal, but rabies is. =P
There have been some very rare cases of people surviving rabies, but 99.9% of the time, once the symptoms onset, it's fatal. If you get shots before the symptoms start because you think you were exposed to it, you will be OK. It was too late for that fawn. Any warm-blooded animal can become infected, & humans can catch it from them through bites.
Maybe it got hurt or something &had a hard tmie moving while you just sat there like a total jackass video taping that baby deer's possible last minutes. Bet you're really laughing now.
First, the fawn is not an "it." The fawn is either a he or a she. Lawn chairs, tables, etc are "its." But I understand we don't know the gender of him/her at this point. :) (I'll say "him" for now.) I feel sorry for the poor little baby. Rabies is a horrible virus. If he had been treated in time, he would have not gotten to that point. It is now too late at that stage and there was no other option but to shoot him, poor little sweetheart.
@InvalidUsername1323 You're not! I'm glad I stumbled onto this video. I've heard of the violent cases of rabies - you know, mad dogs, foxes, even skunks, but you don't hear about this sort of thing.
although this is kindo of funny I hope you shot it or killed it because that would have been faster. Rabies causes lockjaw which means that the oor little guy couldnt eat if he wanted to. Just a thought
@Keresana15 No, rabies causes rabies. Tetanus causes lockjaw. Rabies is caused by a virus. Lockjaw is caused by a bacterium. However, either can potentially be transmitted by being bitten.
@christianne1975 My dog was bitten by a raccoon... I think I know what I am talking about. Rabies is a viral disease that causes acute encephalitis (inflammation of the brain). It attacks your central nervous system and can cause your body to go into either acute or sever paralysis. Mostly the infection attacks the main moving muscles like the legs/arms but it also almost always locks the jaws of those infected. Hydrophobia is also a symptom in almost ALL cases.
@Keresana15 I am so sorry your dog contracted rabies. It is a horrible viral disease. I understand bc I am PhD and know the disease well. There have been symptoms noted that are considered similar between rabies and tetanus, that is true, but there have been scientific arguments of dual infections, which may cause confusion regarding symptoms. Again I am sorry about your dog. If you live in a rural area especially, it is advised to get rabies vaccination for dogs and cats.
It's obviously not rabid its drunk

You shouldn't have gotten so close to it. You're lucky you didn't get bit. Poor baby.

It's. Not rabbid I can tell look at the mouth it's not foming and it didn't try to kill you. Or it's doing the cramp. Ya do the cramp. Do the cramp!
catbeweird 2 weeks ago
@catbeweird It doesn't need to have a foaming mouth. It would serve you well to understand what rabies look like in animals, and this is definitely a rabid deer. It's incredibly sad because it's obviously a baby, but it is rabid. Look at the way it was having problems walking- fawns are up and walking fine within a few hours after birth, and is then able to keep up with its mother in another week. This poor creature could barely stand.

Don't know why they would shoot over tranquilizing and then euthanizing.
1948Sheri 2 weeks ago
@1948Sheri because if they got close enough to do all that then there's a chance they could get bitten or worse.
twosdayschild 2 weeks ago
@1948Sheri Maybe they didn't want to risk it waking up and making matters much worse...
But you do have a bit of a point. I guess maybe that could be done if they had it all on hand with them.
tazira1 2 weeks ago
This is sad but if animals didn't have rabies i would say this deer is drunk

1948Sheri 3 weeks ago
@1948Sheri yes it is sad. but it is nature and why did they shoot it?!?!
supahninjadojo 2 weeks ago
@supahninjadojo They shot at it to put it out of its misery. Also, they probably knew from experience it was rabid and didn't want to risk the chance of the rabies spreading.

is there a cure for fabies?
Snowcatclaw 3 weeks ago
@Snowcatclaw no, fabies isn't fatal, but rabies is. =P
There have been some very rare cases of people surviving rabies, but 99.9% of the time, once the symptoms onset, it's fatal. If you get shots before the symptoms start because you think you were exposed to it, you will be OK. It was too late for that fawn. Any warm-blooded animal can become infected, & humans can catch it from them through bites.

how would a deer contract RABIES?
woodrowpass 3 weeks ago
@woodrowpass Bat bites, and rodent bites. Humans can get it the same way as any other animals.

woodrowpass 3 weeks ago
First, the fawn is not an "it." The fawn is either a he or a she. Lawn chairs, tables, etc are "its." But I understand we don't know the gender of him/her at this point. :) (I'll say "him" for now.) I feel sorry for the poor little baby. Rabies is a horrible virus. If he had been treated in time, he would have not gotten to that point. It is now too late at that stage and there was no other option but to shoot him, poor little sweetheart.

You might have just saved lives by posting this video. I never knew what rabies could look like - I'm sure I'm not the only one.
InvalidUsername1323 3 weeks ago 57
@InvalidUsername1323 You're not! I'm glad I stumbled onto this video. I've heard of the violent cases of rabies - you know, mad dogs, foxes, even skunks, but you don't hear about this sort of thing.

Heeroneko 3 weeks ago
although this is kindo of funny I hope you shot it or killed it because that would have been faster. Rabies causes lockjaw which means that the oor little guy couldnt eat if he wanted to. Just a thought
Keresana15 3 weeks ago
@Keresana15 No, rabies causes rabies. Tetanus causes lockjaw. Rabies is caused by a virus. Lockjaw is caused by a bacterium. However, either can potentially be transmitted by being bitten.
christianne1975 3 weeks ago
@christianne1975 My dog was bitten by a raccoon... I think I know what I am talking about. Rabies is a viral disease that causes acute encephalitis (inflammation of the brain). It attacks your central nervous system and can cause your body to go into either acute or sever paralysis. Mostly the infection attacks the main moving muscles like the legs/arms but it also almost always locks the jaws of those infected. Hydrophobia is also a symptom in almost ALL cases.
Keresana15 3 weeks ago
@Keresana15 I am so sorry your dog contracted rabies. It is a horrible viral disease. I understand bc I am PhD and know the disease well. There have been symptoms noted that are considered similar between rabies and tetanus, that is true, but there have been scientific arguments of dual infections, which may cause confusion regarding symptoms. Again I am sorry about your dog. If you live in a rural area especially, it is advised to get rabies vaccination for dogs and cats.
christianne1975 3 weeks ago
@christianne1975 Thanks and it's ok. Thats cool :) Yea my dog got bit and my dad had to kill it a few years ago.
