great post... sorry in SF. You go they aways say "follow your passion" and it seems that is what you've been doing! bravo. I hit it backwards from chef to sr. sys admin alas... the grass is always greener for me somewhere else. five stars to you.
A few friends have asked me if I wanted to be a chef and/or open a restaurant. I think from all I know from Chefs is that its a hard hard job. I am more interested in working one on one with people and creating recipes and programs that people can replicate on their own. But of course I do have a restaurant concept that I am working on. I would love to know what your experience as a chef was and why you decided to change careers.
This is the first video I have seen by you, but it certainly won't be the last... I'm sending you buckets full of encouragement and my advice is to keep following your heart and the right way forward will find you!
Sadly no, but while I am in LA, I have a few friends who are in the film business, so I am trying to see if I can find a suitable venue to shoot in and pull it all together. But even if it does not happen for a while or the way I envision currently, I am strangely confident, in a way I have rarely been about other things, that this is all going to come together in exactly the time that it needs to.
I think this could be big, Bonnie! Follow your heart. I agree with the format ZenArcher put forward - this is unique - the entire thing from planning thru execution to enjoyment and discussion. Good Luck :-)
Bonnie... the camera REALLY loves you already so that is not an issue. And you are such a great communicator; that's why I subscribed to you long ago. I think video would be better than radio and books. You are so captivating to watch; I am excited to see what you come up with. I need guidance on nutrition and weight-loss myself. Don't really know how to cook and that makes it difficult to eat anything that tastes good and helps with the weight loss without having to go to a restaurant!
Best wishes for your new path Bonnie! I am confident you will do well... I love the salad dressing you did a video about a while ago now! (I loved the dressing so much that I started experimenting myself and came up with some tasty recipes!) Plus, the video is interesting so I'm sure you will do great! Wish I could help out, but Canada is too far! :)
Dinner Party! Cook original meals or altered meals... For House Guests! Show the prep, cooking, presentation, then.. show them enjoying the meal and critiquing it. =o) "Radio Show", TV/Video, PODCAST! Keep it simple and In house for now.
Good luck - Sounds exciting, and there are plenty of ways to go about it - lulu (dot-com) for self-publishing books and CreateSpace (dot-com) to produce DVDs for sale, each of which you can promote through YouTube (etc.) and free ebooks from your site. These are things you can do today, without a publisher or network, to get it going (and then maybe find a publisher or network, if you like).
Bonnie, I encourage you to do videos. I've experimented with creating and selling do-it-yourself (DIY) videos on my website. Our customers download them instantly, and pay my PayPal. We have several free DIY videos on the YouTube channel, and they all direct the viewer to our website where we sell the more elaborate videos.
There's actually a web site similar to YouTube that's designed as a cooking/recipe/How-To site. I forget the URL, but PrincessDiana161 has been posting some of her videos there. That could be a possible avenue for you, who knows.
PS. The smile on your face proves that you're ready for this next adventure - Cool!
If you are interested in new recipes, have you come across Cook's Illustrated magazine (and website of course - includes full recipe database)?
These people are hardcore "foodies:" the magazine has NO advertisements... period. They do real food for real people, not just 5* restaurant chef stuff; their lasagne recipe is divine, although my wife did improve on it (use ground chicken instead of beef and add white mushrooms - yes it's only lasagne, but the flavours are gourmet).
When CI did chocolate cake, they found 35-40 recipes (forget the exact number - it blew me away though), baked them ALL, analyzed what they liked about their favourites, discussed with food chemists what made the differences, then tweeked/combined recipes multiple times to create their ultimate chocolate cake. That is hardcore cooking by hardcore foodies!
I bet a cooking video will take a lot editing in addition to the filming. I do some cooking for my family, so, if/when you make a cooking video, I'll be happy to follow your instructions and tell you how it turns out.
Before you know it your pager will be going off three times a night with calls from people with cooking emergencies:)
In all seriousness best of luck with your cooking asparations. Hey you must have something worthwhile or you and your family wouldn't have lost 325 pounds!
I wish I lived near you I'd love to help out. I do have a suggestion though. When you make the cooking video I'd use two camera's so you can have a wide angle that shows basically the whole kitchen and one that shows just the counter where you'd be doing the preparation. The editing is just simple jump cuts but it would be more effective to show what it looks like when making the dish.

Considering that I might spill hot soup on myself and it could quickly turn from a hot video into a burn victim video, "uh, NO".

Hi Bonnie.
C'mon the camera likes you, no doubt. And among other things you are a great communicator.
If you go on with this idea - or other - you must use this talent you have... screen better than radio better than books
You transmit confidence and HONESTY ;-)... you have to use this.
best
