phone boxes do not exist much anywhere in the world outside of North America, but that i mean Canada and the US. Mobiles run on a different frequency in Europe Asia and the Middle East. Their system is different. BUY A cheap new or used mobile with just a copy of your passport. NO connection , no contracts, all mobiles in Asia, the EU and Middle EAst offer internet and chat with prepaid SIM cards , its CHEAP. On
Great tips...especially the one about getting an unlocked phone. Although I would add getting a prepaid cell phone instead of using your regular cell phone. With TracFone, you only pay for the minutes that you use and you save so much money. You don't have to pay for activation, overage, or cancellation fees. It's conveninet and easy to use.
if you leave North America you can buy a NEW or USED unlocked mobile (cell) for under 20 euro....basic but working. You can also buy NEW or USED SIM CARDS....which allow you to call anywhere in the world or sms...and depending on your mobile (CELL) use the net....the SIM will cost you about 10 euro...new or used.
You only need a photo copy of your passport....nothing else.....!!!!!!!!!!!!
The rest of the world is more advance than N.America. Sorry USA you have fallen wayyyy behind.
@whereiamishere I agree just buy a cheap mobile when aboard or buy an unlocked phone from Amazon. When I visited the U.S I just bough a prepaid Tmobile basic phone with $20 credit.
@techfan42 ''''''''' Well the phone system in America and Canada is NOT the SAME as in EUROPE ASIA and the Middle EAST. . They are on a different frequency and it won't matter if your American or Canadian mobile is unlocked, it won't work.
Unless you have a G3.. or higher. DO WASTE MONEY and DONT BRING American or Canadian telephone systems mobiles to Europe or other countries THEY WONT WORK. Buy them. It's cheaper and better quality, and you can use them BACK in N.America ! ironic
Check your devices power adapters. Most will run 110V and 240V variants, but read the label. Step up and step down transformers are heavy and expensive, it might be cheaper to order a device specific adapter for the country of use.
We just travelled to Berlin for 10 days and Verizon sent us a Euro-friendly phone that we activated just before leaving; it then becomes your phone and uses the same phone number as your US phone. Deacivate when you return and mail back. Includes all the European adaptors. Cost us $11 shipping to and from Verizon and charges of only a buck a minute; 50 cents per text (sent) and a nickely to receive a text. What a great deal!
"because of it's flash limitations" - thats such a dumb statement, who the fuck needs flash? It's 2010 and half the internet already bases on HTML5 and is "iPad-Optimized"
Piccell Wireless is also an awesome way to travel abroad, they an either send you a mobile phone with a local and long distance number or just a sim card to where you are going to stay
@mini14tx1 ya i guess its just that most of the creaps hoped they would show molly half naked or something by the 1000th Video .. YOU KNOW IT's TRUE ~!
@wallysaruman it's more likely to be infactuation rather than love. In either case, if you're not a psycho talker there isn't really any harm in it, and if you are you probably wouldn't bother asking the question ... but neither would you ask if you were a normal person. Funny that
Don't they normally have the comments that are voted highest up at the top? Because last time I checked here, they were comments of disappointment. ...specifically commenting on the fact that instead of doing a good video for #1000, they did an advertisement. Can they disable/remove that comment section if they don't like what is said there?
Another way to save on cell phone costs when traveling is to invest in a phone with Wi-Fi capabilities. There's Wi-Fi hotspots all over the place (many of which are free). With a Wi-Fi enabled phone you can check your e-mail, view maps, surf the net, etc... without having to pay cell data charges. Also, some Wi-Fi phones have an option to make internet (ie, Skype) phone calls ... using this feature can save a ton of money.
An unlocked cell phone and a local SIM card will save you a lot of money on voice calls. When I travel, however, I generally text message using my home (Canada) SIM card (ie, as the price per message is fairly reasonable).
If you are buying an unlocked phone for travel make sure it operates on the cell frequencies used in the countries you are visiting. A quad band phone is generally your best bet as these can be used almost everywhere.
This would have been a good video for me to have watched BEFORE I went on holiday in Russia. Fortunately I learned quickly thanks to eBill that my phone was costing too much. It ended up cheaper to buy a phone there and register for a cell account than to use my own phone to even text, let alone make a call.
Helpful advice. Thank you.
