Qtip definitely holds up well compared to the record version. MNDR sounds just terrible. If she was singing this in a karaoke bar I'd have thrown something. Brittney, Rhianna and other 'babes' get a break is because they are sold as plastic music. There is no reason Mark Ronson should be recording with people who can't sing.

Wow she sounds great on the album but terrible in this! some people just can't sing live I guess, that or her voice is synthesized. Man that was a horrible performance all in all (QTip did ok though), wouldn't have done them any favors, luckily the sound sounded great on the radio.

If anyones interested, the continuous synth melody thats played all the way through was done on a Sequential circuits Prophet 5 synth, program number 32. I should know, I own one. Its the one that you can see propped up behind the singers, although it does shows Mark playing a moderm synth.

MNDR graduated from my University (NDSU) and her mom is friends with my mom! Based on e-mail I was forwarded, it seems MNDR had food poisoning that day, but of course "The show must go on!" and she performed anyway. What an amazing opportunity, and after seeing this video I found the song on iTunes (US) and have listened at least 15 times already today!! Q-Tip was fine, but MNDR was abysmal! I'm really glad this wasn't my first time hearing the song otherwise it would have been DOA. She sounded karaoke at best, out of tune & looks like a joke (one of those singers trying desperately to be so cool and so alternative and looking like a mess as a result).

And while I prefer the studio version to this one, it still has its charm. MNDR sounds so amateurish, it's actually cool and Q-tip rocks. Plus there's Stu Zender on bass!

modern pop tends to bore me, but the weird time signature and primitive synths / proggish riff reminds me of late 70's genesis. Air grabbed me the same way in '97 when i saw them on top of the pops. The music video is worth checking out too - tron-esque early 80s aesthetic. About 3.30 in to the music video it's reminiscent of the blockbusters opening credits which amusing, if probably not intentional.
