  • Google "The Old Republic Bans were not for visiting Ilum"

There was more to the story. ^_^

  • @BigDaddyDarth

Sounds juicy, I'll read up on it. Thanks for the heads up.

  • @BigDaddyDarth

Not,much more. They said they were going to ban...but did not. But did suspend. It still doesn't explain why low level players could even get to this loot nor why one planet could upset the entire economic balance of the game. Sounds to me like rushed programming errors and still not the player's faults.

  • @pocketmego

There was gold farming going on. And that could upset the balance of the games economy. That I can see banning or warning for, since they are trying to give you a RPG experience, you should get in trouble for doing things that will screw up the world based economy (if only that worked in real life...lol) since your not just affecting yourself.

As far as the low lvl players getting the loot... that's on Bio Ware. Just bad programming and execution.

  • @BigDaddyDarth Not it wasn't snotty of me, I did look into it, how is it that i found that most people said it and that it was a exploit, In reality its up to the video poster to look this stuff up and find out the truth before assuming it was Game Industry Fascism.

  • @BigDaddyDarth I should not have to explain myself when google available for everyone to use. its as easy as a few clicks to find out the info.

  • What happened to games being fun. Whenever I'd find a bug/glitch I'd say "Cool" and exploit it and have fun with it, and not feel like I'd entered a forbidden zone and have to report it to the proper authorities. When AVGN etc. do their videos on game glitches should they have their lawyers on stand by? Ridiculous!

  • @Retroid64

It is starting to seem like the more money that is invested in games...the less ready publishers arebto give control of the final product to the players. Almost forgetting the point where their part in the process ends.

  • @pocketmego Yeh that doesn't sound like fun to me, seems more like going through the motions within certain parameters, much more sterile... I remember the Game Genie case between Nintendo and it was Codemasters who did it over here, and I seem to remember Codemasters won.

  • @Retroid64

Codemasters was the company that invented the GG, and licensed it to the companies I mentioned. I didn't mention them directly in the video, because I wasn't sure if Nintendo had sued them directly or not.

I do know that one of the reasons they are still hugely successful today is because the never left their Micro-Computer philosophies behihd. They defied Nintendo and evety other console maker by never licensing their games.

  • It amazes me how few people understand the concept of voting with their wallet. When Capcom put out RE: Mercenaries without the ability to delete or reset your (single, solitary) save file, I immediately decided I wasn't going to buy it... even though I was jonesing for a new 3DS game. Their explanation that "the save data is written directly to the 3DS card where it can't be deleted" is total bullshit. They just wanted to control how we played the game, and make used copies undesirable.

  • @HiroGaems On the subject of Bioware's decision to ban those players for taking advantage of a poor design decision they had no reason to believe was unintended... what better way to kill off public support for an already struggling MMO? Think those players learned from the experience and created new accounts? No, they said "screw this game" and went elsewhere. And now others are probably unsure whether they might be doing something bannable because the boundaries are undefined.

  • @HiroGaems

I think this the point where we see the ugly side of gaming addiction. Where you and I might say, well they are being dip-shits...so no money for them. Others say, well they are being dip-shits...but I gotta have my resident evil fix! And I agree that a less severe response would have been a lot healthier for this game and Bioware all around.

  • If you lay down a challenge to a gamer, most will take up the challenge. To set up a situation like this in a game of this type is basically setting an open challenge to any gamer that will step up. And then to punish them for that is absurd.

  • Well said brother. Couldn't agree more. Luckily for me I don't like mmo's or I could easily see this happening to me (if I can find a shortcut to awesome, I am gonna take it)

  • Booooooo!

I would rather have Spyro any day of the week...lol

Companies are getting ballsy...and so many lazy consumers just go with the flow instead of questioning and voting with their wallets against the BS. Id locking part of a game just because you didnt buy it NEW....thats the last Id game then that I would even consider buying.

Also with your point about MMO's...you don't really own anything. Once again...everything is on their servers. You have the software to access and display.

  • @BigDaddyDarth

It's a case of manufacturers trying to assert more control over final product than is attempted in any othet industry. When you make the comparison to other products you realise how ridicuoous it really is.

  • @pocketmego

It's like food producers telling you that you can only eat an apple this way. And if you stray from what they say...you can never have another apple...lol

  • exploiting is a bannable offense in any online game. taking advantage of a online in game exploit is just as bad as cheating. the users obviously knew that it wasn't suppose to happen like that but kept doing it anyhow. If you cheat, hack, greif, take advantage of a in game exploit in a online game you will get banned.

  • @madmax2069

The players didn't do anything that was against the rules. They should have had the planet locked off from lower lvl users....or made it harder to obtain the containers. It wasn't an exploit....took some skill to get there. Looks pretty bad on the part of Bio Ware. Its not like it was a FPS game where you were shooting thru a wall...lol

  • @BigDaddyDarth well depending if it was a bug in the software unintended by the developers or if it was a hack or cheat that allowed you to shoot through the wall. if it was a bug in the software then yes it is the exact same, if it was a hack or a cheat then no its not the same. How come most people are saying that they exploited a glitch and found out how to do it from a forum ?

  • @madmax2069

Mostly because 'most' people don't know what they are talking about.

Google "The Old Republic Bans were not for visiting Ilum"

I'll even quote from one story....

"Bans have been handed out recently, but these were directed at those participating in gold farming (something we've previously noted is already a problem). "These accounts were found to be exploiting the game in a variety of ways to maximize their credits in order to sell them to other players,"

  • @BigDaddyDarth Yes its the same group of sites i visited when i was searching

  • @madmax2069

And there is a huge difference between a 'bug', a 'hack' or a 'cheat'.

Game Glitch or Bug: Poor programming. A glitch is a short-lived fault in a system. It is often used to describe a transient fault that corrects itself.

Game Hack or Cheat: Cheating in a video game letting a player use non-standard methods for creating an advantage beyond normal.

Apparently the glitch in Old Republic didnt auto correct...just bad programming. Another testament to the state of vidja games.

  • @madmax2069

I still don't buy it. You don't want a certain level character going there... Then you make it impossible for a level under 40 character to be able to even step foot on that planet. Only lazy programming makes it impossible to come up with a plausible in game reason why any character under level 40 can go there.

  • @pocketmego It happens, glitches and bugs are avoidable in any software. in online games people that find a glitch some will report it, some will exploit it. From what i under stand is they found out on a forum on how to do this.

  • @madmax2069 oops, unavoidable
