Anybody ever hear of Phil Taylor from Motorhead? Pretty much invented the double bass drum style use in heavy metal since its start. I agree, Lombardo is probably the best drummer in heavy metal music, definately one of my favorites, but, the godfather of double bass drums? I'd think even Dave would laugh at that one.

The best really, really FAST drummer is in my opinion Tim Yeung.. (if he could only find a great band to play in..)

While there are drummers that are faster on doublebass than Lombardo, I think Lombardo genuinely deserves the title.. there's just something special about his style, something unique. It's not about speed alone, it's the passion that you can hear while playing, especially considering his long history. He is an icon
