How did I not know about this till now? been a huge fan of Nostalgia Critic and Bum Reviews for ages and only just recently a friend got me into Gurren Lagann

Doug walker once said there is a genre of film that focuses much more on appealing to the audiences sense of emotion instead of it's sense of logic, such movies include, 'Snow white', 'the wizard of Oz' and 'where the wild things are'. Gurren Lagann is a show that falls into this type of category. A lot of passion is put into this genre, (at least if it's done well) So just kick out all logic and just enjoy how it makes you feel, and you'll be screaming excitedly with all the characters.

I feel like people get too distracted by the giant robots, explosions, tits, and badass quotes on parade in front of the simple and very-well conveyed and taught moral of having self confidence and being an individual and they just write it off as some over-hyped action show.

Or screw it, (pardon the pun,) this is a bloodpumping anime with a fantastic pace that is both invigorating and pure awesome. Made for the sake of fun.

THIS is the perfect Shonen anime in every way, shape and form. And hell, it DOES have a simple meaning behind it all.

Do the impossible. Why? Because you should. How? Because it's only impossible if you recognize it as such. Break through despair and KICK ASS.

This is the greatest Bum review I've ever seen in my life!

Really though, at the end when he mentioned anime being silly, I thought, "Yeah, it can be..." then I thought of Shigurui, Texhnolyze, Now and Then Here and There, Grave of the Fireflies, Barefoot Gen, Lain, you know, stuff that has no laughs in it. Actually, I can't remember the last time I saw a silly one. I've been wathcing all serious anime lately. Well, except for maybe Baccano!

Other than Episode 4 (which intentionally had bad animation with a new director) and to an extent Episode 6 there were never really any completely insane and bizarre episodes. This show always had a story and serious moments since the start. Remember this was made by the same studio that did FLCL.
