I know Tolkien hated allegories.. but I still think Sauron is a parallel version of Hitler, and Saruman is Mussolini, Hitler's closest ally, but a much weaker force..

@DemiathDoomhammer See, I always believed Sauruman was supposed to represent Hitler, while Sauron simply represents the evil in human nature. Sauron is supposed to represent everything about us Tolkien found ugly and wrong.
