Actually, no it wasn't. I remember to this day that the people that wanted it the most were the most outspoken. Hillary was one of them. I remember, my dad, who comes from a long line of Republicans was really against the war, and so were the rest of us. The democrats carry humanitarian issues as fixing domestic economy, health care, minimum wage increase, Social Security protection, better foreign policy (Franklin Roosevelt, Harry Truman, John Kennedy etc). There is a huge difference between Democrats and Republicans. The bailout bill was passed with significant reformations which will continue if there is an Obama administration. The democrats are often blackmailed and stampeded into hasty policy decisions by republicans. The War is a good example, hatched by Bush/Cheney and company and not just democrats but Americans where chided that not supporting "the Patriot Act" meant supporting the terrorists. One of myriad phony laws that violate rights.

The Bush/Cheney administration trashed the Bill of Rights that used to protect everyone from illegal police action. However, we are no longer a democracy. We are a military/industrial dictatorship run by the wealthy elite. This dictatorship now uses private security, the military, and the police to control citizens who speak out against them. Actually, no it wasn't. I remember to this day that the people that wanted it the most were the most outspoken. Hillary was one of them. I remember, my dad, who comes from a long line of Republicans was really against the war, and so were the rest of us. Fascism and National Socialism were far RIGHT wing parties. They formed alliances most often conservative and right-wing political movements. But I'm just a History Major, so feel free to ignore/disqualify my diploma and look it up for yourself. Google rules.

Finally, you can't answer the question: Are you for MORE FREEDOM or LESS? It's a very simple question.
I'm not a party member, I'm an independent. I'll always go for the party or person who says: "Government is NOT the solution, it is the problem."
You work for a government entity, I assume. I work for myself; the government is MY biggest problem, it affects EVERYONE to their detriment.
But you support the Collective. Call it what you want, it's about CONTROL & you're in favor of it.
