@Kazooie haha yeah, the intended way it to use the beetle to hit a switch that stops the waterfall, then have the beetle carry a bomb flower from behind the waterfall to blow up the boulder (since the beetle can carry bomb flowers without them being lit). i think ZFG did it this way his first time too. He didn't know about the switch either, haha

Nice idea.. you can also use the flyer with the intended bomb and just fly around the waterfall. but this is ofcourse faster.

This works great. I was farther away from the edge and slower to pick up the bomb, but I still blew up the rock so this is pretty fool-proof. Nice find.
