  • The beginning is such a spoiler...

  • @XsmurfetteX This is close to the book but not completely accurate. This is too corny. The voices and animation are :P. I did a dramatic speech on the book and although I used the same lines, the characters were portrayed differently. I just wanted to point out that this is way weirder than the book. :/

  • I love this. It used to be on when I was a kid. I am 14 now. I miss this it was on all the time... <3 Thanks for the upload!

  • hummm...still looks like it could beat the crap out of the dario argento version.... XD

  • when was this cartoon made?? idk but it looks pretty old....

  • @LizardLover981 It was made in 1987...so I hear...someone tell me if I'm wrong.

  • @burgermainia15 no i checked and that is the year this was made

  • @XsmurfetteX I would agree with you

  • isn't the red death from Edgar Allan Poe ??

  • @FriendsHavingFun Yep, he was making a reference to it. Basically saying that he is just as bad ass.

  • I grew up on this cheap piece but boy! I still love just how crappy it is now that I can comprehend it.

  • Poor clown...

  • me merely a few moments to persuade him that it was a jest, still he gave me a somber look, "Christine plays such games with poor Erik!, He deserves the death she ordered him, but yet she asked for something he already gave her! Only she can have Erik's heart!"

  • discovered he meant to give me just that. Holding a medical scalpel in his hand meant for incision ready to cut into his chest and die to give me my wish.

"Erik! Erik!" I had cried running to him and wrenching the blade from him. "What are you doing?"

Erik had looked at me as though I were stupid and said in the most obvious voice, "Giving Christine what she wishes." He said, and showed me the huge diamond necklace wound around his wrist. It took

  • Erik would give me anything and everything I wanted, all I had to do was say, 'Erik could you give me…' and he would go to the end of the world to fetch it if he must. In fact one day, when he had asked me what I wanted for my birthday I made the mistake of saying that I wanted his heart from his chest in a diamond locket big enough to make a dog's collar. It was a joke of course, but as I soon

  • oh god... so funny...very black and white though like the 1929 version. What I mean is no grey area. Nobody feels bad for poor Erik.... Whenever I imagine Erik I just imagine Lon Chaney not some sexy Gerald Butler or something....

    On fanfiction evreyone hates Raoul.....why!!!!

  • @gwtwlover- because everyone thinks Raul is a pansy and the Phantom is the one who deserves Christine. I'm not a huge fan of Raul , then again, I don't read fanfics so I think he is legit. Without him, us Phantom lovers would have nobody to hate on I guess. Raul makes the triangle a triangle. He is there so he gets pushed off of a cliff a lot by fans.

  • @creepyburton27 Oh....I love Erik too and all, only the first (and only) POTO film I watched has been the original Lon Chaney version, where (I'm not sure if you have seen) it's pretty clear who is the good guy, and who is the bad....[No offense against any characters though, they're all great!]

  • @gwtwlover Bwo! I hated the ending though. It ended at what I considered the climax of the movie. It's kinda like bad sex. Tralala bang! It's over. Hmm.... Anywho. And never again will I use that description :/ i feel ashamed.

  • How is it that a cheaply made cartoon can produce a better, more accurate deformity than a musical movie with a massive budget and several special effects. It's just baffling.

  • esto es increible!!! veo basicamente la novela de leroux desfilar ante mis ojos como caricaturas!!!

this is incredible! I see the novel of leroux in front of my eyes like cartoons!!!

  • Emerald City Productions? wow

  • dude! eriks just a skeleton! (and a meanie) i dont like this!!!!! i like michael crawford and the movie.

  • Comment removed

  • @LadyMetal0 This is the book version. Sorry to burst your bubble, but Erik is Evil, not some sexy guy,.

  • @Onasariel in the book he wasnt evil!!!!! just missunderstood!!! doesnt anybody understand that he just wanted to have a try at love and become a great musician?

  • @phantomluvkid Sure he was misunderstood, but he had no concept of right or wrong. He killed and terrorized an opera house. He also proceeded to drop a chandelier. Sorry to say, he's the villain. Admit this. Don't turn into a twitard.

  • @Onasariel Yeah.....it is true.....E

rik is sometimes protrayed as cruel, calculating, sadistic. Just a plain monster. Sometimes misunderstood, mysterious, and or sexy. Sometimes witha dry wit....Other times very pitiful... read

  • I remember watching this on HBO when I was about 8 years old! Classic!

  • @jefethemachine : Oh yeah! Local library had me pegged every time I came in! I ran for this film in the kiddy section! I loved it!

  • Very Good!

  • I actually do like the animation here. In fact, I think this and Hayao Miyazaki's movies are what inspired me to want to be an animator.

  • Lol, reminds me of scooby doo, and that clown was just so... XD

  • This video is amazing, used to own set as a child, mom threw it out.. worst mistake EVER!

  • aaaaaaaand I just died of laughter. This is so freaking awesome!

  • Is this available on DVD? I'd love to get it!

  • Oh, geez. *cackles* This is AMAZING! xD

  • Thank you so much, i watched this movie when i was a kid as well as another Emerald City`s movies and all of them scare the hell out of me back then.

  • Thank you for posting this. I used to have it on DVD but my mum donated to my old primary school

  • I'm glad someone posted this movie!!! This is one of my fave childhood movies!! I remember watching it on the morning, before going to school!

  • esta pelicula yo la vi cuando era niño y me encanta yo no se por que a muchos no les gusta pero a mi me fascina ese filme.

  • Now this is what I call THE DARK KNIGHT!

  • what version is this?

  • and what subtitles? I see no subtitles, but I'm not complaining as Portuguese is not a tongue I speak...I speak English (duh) and I'm fairly good with French.

  • the 1987 Emerald City Productions Animated Version

  • I saw this at my local video store when I was a kid, but never rented it. Now I can see what I missed out on.

  • Great movie.

  • so much for childhood memos i was so bored

  • One of my strongest childhood memories... and it used to scare the crap out of me even though I couldn't understand a word (it was the German dub).

  • I'm so very, very glad someone posted this film!

  • I want to see who made this movie, because it was one of the previews for my old copy of the animated version "The Snow Queen," which itself is really good. The previews also showed an animated version of "Les Mis," the story of the queen who turned her children into swans, and this collection of the creepiest ghost stories I've ever heard or seen, which I want to find a copy of as I have never seen the entire movie. This last one is of particular interest. If anyone can help me out...

  • Okay, I found out it was made by a company by the name of "Emerald City."

Now, if I'm correctly guessing, if I try to find more films made by this company, I should eventually come across the one with all the ghost stories, right?

But apparently, in the world of the Internet, it is a forgotten name....

  • OMG!!! finally i found this version!!! wiii!! ^^

    i'm happy!!!

    sorry 4 the english :p

  • This is so loyal to the book, it's amazing

  • love it!

  • there was a movie i had when i was little and there was a preview for this which gave me nightmares

  • OMG! i remember watching this as a kid! ah, childhood memories... :-D

Thanks so much for uploading the vid

  • Isnt there one on here w/o the subtitles?

  • Used to be. But was erased.

  • It's funny how this more than likely dollar film is the closest to the book. Weird huh?

  • Good job!Love this story!

  • a real great adaptation.

  • Does anyone know if this is on DVD?

  • omgosh thank you for putting this up im a huge phantom fan and this totaly just made my day.
