actually thats a male look under its to front legs and you will see two little lumps its a dead give away right there plus females have much larger abdomen i feed mine whatever i catch they eat also eat other spiders

Just caught one last week. Pretty scary. Idk how you have the guts to hold it but if you can, and the info I've read says they're docile maybe it's worth a shot. Im just scared of getting bit and my hand swelling to the size of a pineapple.

ive seen tarantulas and thats a male so i i would let it go but u could keep t as a pet but if he gets a mate after the female gets pegnant the female will bite his head off its kinda weird but its prob cool to watch so im nt saying do it to see it kill him but just saying it will prob die more out there and u can keep it.....besides its tamed s it wont hurt u

Yup, it's a mature male of the Aphonopelma genus (the only family of tarantulas found in the continental US)

You can tell it's a mature male by the hooks on the underside of it's front two legs, they use them to keep the females fangs away from them during mating. Depending on how long ago his molt was he won't live much longer. Males only live for maybe a year or two after their mature molt.

and ***PLUS*** you siad you did not know what to feed it. buy a rose hair and ask the people at the pet store how to care for it or ask me.

It is an A. Hentzi. Mine is named Maleficent, (Malie for short) They eat crix, meal worms...occasional pinkey thought pinkies are not vary good for them.

That breed can live 30+ years. They do molt and that time can be tricky for a new Tarantula owner, if you have any further questions feel free to message me about it. I love helping others with spidey care!

Make sure you keep the spider supplied with a lot of water, that is the most important!

That is clearly a mature male, though you probably know that by now. The bulbs on its pedipalps give it away.

Tarantula venom doesn't have the proteins other buggy venoms have, all the agents are peptides. As such, while it's possible to be allergic (to anything), it doesn't ever happen in practice. I've never heard of anyone being allergic to tarantula venom and I talk with lots of tarantula people all the time.

Hey, fellas! That's actually a male specimen you have there. If you look closely at the first pair of legs (not the pedipalps, which are located near the chelicerae and fangs) you'll notice tibial hooks, which are used to restrain females during mating.
