One thing I would add to this is that it is wise to have your license and registration in your hands to be presented to the officer BEFORE he or she gets to your car. That way, you can keep your hands in plain view and can give your identification to the officer immediately without risking them getting itchy trigger fingers because you make some sudden movement (like reaching for your pocket or glove compartment). Just a thought...

Also, always verbally assert that you do not ever consent to searches.
