The hollow point expands on impact, making sure that all of the kinetic energy of the shot gores into the target. This is also a safety measure as these projectiles will not penetrate as far as other rounds. /so if it hits an attacker or if it misses and hits a wall, it is less likely to keep going and possibly hitting someone else.
