  • SO MUCH GORE >:D

  • i want those speakers at 1:48 :D

  • All I can see is good riddance.

Flat panel tech becoming cheap is the best thing to happen to the industry. These heavy bulky relics belong in museums!

  • the last crt tv i had up until 2009 was a Philips 15PT1767/05 and the picture was amazing to say it was a crt flat screen new in 2005 4 years later of being used every day the only thing that made me get rid of the poor tv was the power switch failed if i could i would of got the switch repaired if it didnt cost so bloody much and i bet it would of being still going as good as new :-( now i just have 2 lcds the philips was proberly one of the best crt tvs i ever owned plus i still have remote4it

  • Why do they cut off the power cord when it just unplugs? That really annoys me because it's pointless. F*cking idiots. I agree with SpeakerPolice.

  • what do they do with all of those loudspeakers?!

  • @speakerpolice I totally agree with you. I love the CRT monitor and I am actually a CRT monitor expert repairman. I was sad to see them go. However, RIP the CRT.

  • My SuperScan Elite 751 started to quiver when I played this video on it. "there, there, I'll never let them take you away"

  • wtf!! i have an arcade machine that needs a CRT

  • It breaks my heart to see them die... :(

  • Isn't the conveyor belt a little dangerous for something that can implode?

  • @funkyironman69 CRTs can not implode on conveyor - the guy, who "disassembles" (stupidly breaks it) already broke the glass tube with connector, so there is no vacuum anymore.

  • goodbye crt's we miss you :(

  • very smart got a mask of but no safety glasses for when he breaks the deflecton yoke.

  • Comment removed

  • ALL THOSE GODDAMN FLYBACKS, GONE TO WASTE!!!!!

  • Very sad. We should do everything possible to preserve this classic technology, not destroy it. Otherwise, things will no longer be totally tubular, dude!

  • @LectronCircuits These things are dead!

    LCDs match the CRT today!

  • It looks like a butchering

  • i'd be scared shitless to take one of these apart. high voltage and radiation are just some of the things i hear are in the tubes.

  • @RobertC19850209 Radiation is only produced when the tube is energized.

High Voltage will remain even if the unit is unplugged due to the capacitive effect of the CRT tube, but it is easy to de-energize any stored HV by connecting some wires or letting it sit unplugged for a few days.

  • @RobertC19850209 Hit one in a box,not much to worry about then

  • can high res crts support 720p hd?

im trying to build a gaming rig but i dont care much about the screen size.

  • Newer is not always better.

  • This is NOT recycling. It is MURDER. If you wanted to recycle a CRT monitor or television, you'd re-home it. Sell it, donate it to a thrift store. Tearing apart a piece of equipment that most likely still has several years or even decades of life left in it is a travesty.

Not to mention that all flat panel televisions are cheap Chinese junk. No LCD could ever match the build quality of most CRT sets. I own and love a Sony Trinitron KV-40XBR800, and no flat display will ever replace it.

  • @SpeakerPolice If you live somewhere with high rents where every inch of real-estate counts, and picture quality doesnt have to be so very crisp, the space saving is worth it to switch to CRTs,

  • This is true, and, unless you get a very bottom-end model, you're looking at a better picture than a flat panel.

  • @eeaxxx you mean LCDS :p

  • @SpeakerPolice I still watch TV and game on a circa 91 Sony Trinitron, found it on ebay cheap and it still looks great...should it ever die I will replace it with another CRT...I wouldn't have it any other way. The Trinitron is an awesome technology that doesn't get near enough credit. But everyone wants to throw away the tried and true for the new and flashy, unfortunately.

  • I completely agree. It is sad to see what has happened to televisions. With some of the newer things now, I can't even correctly call them 'television receivers'...

  • @SpeakerPolice LOL. Really? CRTs are heavy, power sucking pieces of trash. Not to mention they lose their contrast progressively over time. Some people just have super weird obsessions - did we really need to know the model of the crappy monitor you use? I'll stick to my 50 inch LG flatscreen TV with HDMI hookup, thanks.

  • That only happens if they are used hard. By the time a properly used CRT picture starts to diminish, a comparable flat panel will be dead and buried. On top of that, CRTs using tons of power is a misconception--the power comparison is much closer than you think! Check out the label on the back of your precious LCD if you don't believe me. HDMI is what's trash--its only reason for existence is copyright protection, along with HDCP. Component and DVI both support higher quality video.

  • @SpeakerPolice Shut up fatass.

  • If that's your best comeback, I'd hate to see the rest of your qualifications...

  • @SpeakerPolice Haha.

  • @SpeakerPolice I owned a rotary dial telephone once. It was awesome. Great fidelity. No power required. But you need to let go of old technology. That was last century. So is the CRT. You will use a bit less power too so you'll be GREEN! lol

  • I understand your reasoning for certain technologies, like the Betamax cassette or 8-track. But the only reason CRT technology isn't used anymore is because people don't like heavy, bulky things, and there is a readily available lightweight alternative (LCD). CRT tech is in no way inferior to flat panel, picture quality-wise. Development has stopped, however, so we are very unlikely to see it used to its full potential.

  • i have some damaged monitor but i don't want to recycle it!

  • i still use crts, i have like a shitload of them. They will never die as long as we still use them

  • poor old CRT monitors...

  • I make 50 dollars extra a week scrapping tvs and crts. They have copper , aluminum and circuit boards in them.

  • when he or she screws the copper wire off i need to do that too but is there anyway to do it with out poisoning myself like in my backyard?

  • omg look at all them speakers id love that job and to take them home !

  • @jayholley123 me too!!

  • I still use a CRT :P

  • i love my compaq s720 thums up if u have one 2

  • its interesting 2 c all the different designs

  • Thats what i do all day at my job!

    Its so much fun!@#$%^&*()

  • CRT abuse!!!

  • BAWWWW Bring back CRTs! LCD sucks for games!

  • thats where they need to go...plasma really has better colour reproduction as good if not better

  • REPRODUCE CRT'S FFS! I cant watch this, its so sad!

  • 1:17 wow a flyback XD

  • Very Informative Video, Thank You

  • Thats cool how that works, by the way i like the song!!!

  • 5:15= 666

  • soon this recycling will be obsolete.

  • Don't CRT's contain mercury gas?

  • @HybridPineapple CRTs are basically evacuated glass bottles. There is no such thing as mercury gas only mercury vapor.

  • @Bushougoma So they don't contain merucry vapor either?

  • I still have my heavy as hell, cream white, and tacky CRT.

Im refusing to give it up! :D

  • I'm surprised that they don't discharge the flyback! You could get THOUSANDS of them if you work there and had permission to keep them!

  • @a380rockerfan yeah, a DREAM for a high voltage freak like me.

  • Boring song! Almost scared me out of the video.

  • i want the speakers i love them

  • nice song !!!! what this name ?? anyone know ?

  • nice song~~~~~~ what this name ??? anybody know?!

  • 0:13 OMG he grabbed it like it was a dead rat.

  • Smashing it is also recycling.

  • They Probaly still worked until 0:51 :(

  • i want a crt i think they are stronger than lcd's

  • Very dangerous and unhealthy job...but at least someone is doing it.

  • crts are better than lcdS

    vintage tvs are the best

  • Don't know why but this reminds me of the little toaster LOL

  • He has no idea what he is even talking about. There is no such thing as "Planned Obsolescence", and that all CRT's are doomed. As far as I'm concerned, he is some old guy who want's nothing to do with modern technology and prefers to live in the stone age of electronics.

  • Read your definition of planned obsolescence over again and apply it to both CRTs and the analog to digital conversion examples you moronically gave. If you don't upgrade from CRT to LCD, the consequence is...drumroll...continuing to use your CRT with PCs that are still compatible. Forced upgrade: none. The upgrade from analog to digital is, unfortunately, forced...which would make a difference if the converter wasn't offered free of fucking charge. Another one that doesn't meet the definition.

  • What a waste. So many parts could be acually put to use and packaged as new CRT's for third world countries. It's like America is the only country in the world. Whatever it says is obsolete, has to apply to the rest of the world even if it isn't true. To hell with America.

  • You're such a complete and utter fucking idiot, I scarcely know where to begin.

For starters, the video description says the facility is in Hannover; that's Germany, fuckwit. Failing that, one would think all the German text in the video would tip you off. Secondly, few business would even consider refurbishing old CRTs to ship them overseas when buying new LCDs "locally" is cheaper. And lastly, Canada isn't Utopia; where do you think all the old monitors in your country go?

    JHC you're dumb.

  • My point was that Planned Obsolescence is an American thing that has been adopted by lots of countries now. CRT's are cheaper than LCD's. You don't know what your saying, and you impulsivly replyed to my comment without even reading it carefully. I said true things, if you can't accept that then you don't belong in this conversation.

  • The obsolescence of the CRT was NOT planned, idiot. CRT monitors producing moving images dates back to 1907. For planned obsolescence, the LCD display should have been already finished by the time Americans had TVs in their living rooms, and plans would have been made to make the CRT format somehow unusable so they would have to buy LCDs. As it is right now, you CAN use a CRT with a state of the art PC, so nothing forces you to "update" to LCD, hence NO planned obsolescence.

  • You're stupid to say that. My point was that they don't make CRTs anymore just to make crappy LCDs and Plasmas dominant. Why do you think analog to digital conversion took place? LCDs were finished, and so were Plasmas in 1997. Next time read my comment before argueing with me.

  • Holy jesus, you're goddamn slow. The analog to digital conversion is another example of what planned obsolescence is NOT. The analog to digital converters were FREE for all consumers in the united states exactly to avoid any accusations of planned obsolescence. No one was forced to upgrade against their will. Do you not understand the concept? Is that your problem? Do you think that any obsolescence at all, e.g. VHS to DVD, is planned if a lot of people upgrade?

  • He definitely is slow. All of my TV's are CRT (5 of them) and they all work wonders with the converter boxes. Just because Analog is dead doesn't mean that an old CRT TV should be.

  • Excuse me, let me clarify before your hands get all sweaty with excitement: what I meant was no one was forced to PAY for an upgrade against their will.

  • to correct you again, CRT's are still being made but use more parts to allow for a higher processing rate (120 Hz HD)

  • 746c is right.idont care how many thumps down he gets.

  • On top of that, the space and weight CRTs take up in storage makes them ever more expensive when compared to LCD displays.

  • CRT's are a lot more heavier than what LCD TV's/monitors are and have a far shorter lifetime due to burn-in and other factors. CRT's are not exactly cheaper than an LCD true flat panel display. Which would you rather own, a piss poor CRT or a LCD HDTV with much more features?

  • There is NO SUCH THING as a piss-poor CRT. LCDs, on the other hand...

  • @746c It takes place in Germany.

  • CRT (trinitron) we barely knew you

    rest in peace old buddies

and may flatscreens burn in hell for killing the fw900

  • @taltigolt very true!

  • @taltigolt I can say that we knew them very well... It's technology from the end of 1800.. 1897 to be percise when J.J Thomson verified and confirmed the existence of electrons... Later the TV was created in 1924... It's very old... But it'll surprise you to know that liquid crystal is even older... In fact it's a natural thing... But the end of the CRT was already predictable since it's creation... No matter how awesome the fw900 was... And no matter how super nostalgic we are..It's old enough

  • @Fuckyousobadly i currently own 3 sony fw900's i payed about 500$ for one this fw900 im using right now is not perfect in every way it has a weird black dead pixel thingy BUT

as soon as i watch a movie or play a game like VICE CITY i get BLOWN AWAY! by the colors I WILL NEVER GET A FLAT SCREEN UNLESS IT BEATS TRINITRONS IN EVERYTHING!

i repeat may flatscreens burn in hell for killing the fw900 finding one now is nearly impossible because this generation wants it flat and small thats whatshesaid

  • @taltigolt HAHAHAHAEhhehaeh I knew it! I Knew IT!! I Knew that you had this Zealous feeling towards CRT But I never thought it was so strong heh Scary man really... Ignoring your feelings... There are many reasons why... And the world will always change in the coldest way ALWAYS! Your will is nothing to the society! I think it's pointless to hate objects... You must hate the society and anyone that doesn't think like you! Thats my advice.. To make sence you can only hate people...

  • @taltigolt i don't know man, using a CRT will give me a splitting headache in just a couple minutes.

  • @taltigolt Good riddens ^_^ btw, your lcd, it has parts of these crts... so they will never be gone, they were recycled to make the lcd :D

  • R.I.P

  • hope they burn in hell cuz they are heavy as fuck and ugly and bad screen res

  • breaks my hart to see them die

  • @lasergeak Good riddens ^_^ btw, your lcd, it has parts of these crts... so they will never be gone, they were recycled to make the lcd :D

  • @iToasterman tru but crt technology is so awsome

  • @lasergeak meh :/ it got old. the newer ones. but the old oens are ftw

  • DAS IS JA DEUTSCH! xD

  • good to see recycling

  • i wish i could have all of those speakers lol....

  • yeah its a waste of them.the most speakers that i found in broken crt tvs worked perfectly.actualy the could sell them to guys like us,or even use them in new tvs and electronics, but no,they have to melt them to get the fuckin metal.that what i call a waste of speakwers.

  • @SuperSmasher97 there is a place where i get them for free, i get atleast 190 to a thousand a week, most worth keeping and re-installing or for a nice test speaker, my best one so far is a 12 inch alnico magnet fullrange speaker that works fine, since the speaker was in a isolated chamber, no sunlight hit it, no cracks or anything, its 32 ohms, from an carlson stromberg tv with blown tubes, :)

  • aww por old CRT Monitor.

  • I am watching this through a catode tube. I still prefere the old tubes to the different sorts of flat schreens. I just like the colours better. yet this is an amazing plant.

  • ...but costs too much, unfortunately!!

  • Poor things! I would get as many flybacks as possible from that junk.

  • Not true at all. Plasma has a fixed pixel structure, and CRT does not.

  • not all CRTs are that bad i use une that has 120Hz and is quite pleasnt to look.

  • Awesome video. Keep on with that good work!

  • I am not recycling my CRTs in till there dead.

  • yeah but eventually the mercury will evaporate, making it not look as good

  • Mercury evaporates...how does it get out?

  • Kind of but the phosphor is replaced with a gas. Also dose not have magnets. And Uses electric cells instead of a ray.

  • yeah, but they have much better colour. I use an LCD monitor, but at school crts are all thats there

  • wie grausam =°°°( gute alte röhren monitor, wenn es die nur grösser wie (röhren tv) und flacher geben würde! überall diese künstlichen möchte gern crt's fürchterlich =°°)

  • i just think crts are cool is all, and the only place i know that still uses them is my school. If you think that what i said is stupid you can keep that to yourself

  • my school still uses crts, they are a lot better than lcd in my opinion, but for some reason they like using the really small screen ones, in my computer tech classroom there are lots of crts with bigger screens. A lot of ppl think that lcd is better, but i love crt and always will, sadly my mom made me get rid of my old crt monitor.

  • Why she make you get rid of it footinmouthindustrys?

  • she said it was crap, and i had an lcd

  • Oh that sucks. Why get rid of a working monitor when it could be used as a 2nd display? I use a CRT as a second display for my laptops though I prefer LCD. Why throw it away if it works though? I mean I have a 70's black and white TV sitting in my closet after sitting in my Grandpa's closet for 20-30 years. I have three videos on it and it is still a great TV when hooked up to a converter box.

  • i asked her why today, she said she sent it to goodwill and didnt throw it out like i thought she did, it was a viewsonic E70 btw

  • ViewSonics are the best CRTs other than Sony Trinitron!

  • my school has 2 with the built in speakers :) the speakers suck but the picture is oustanding

  • @WindowsAndMacintosh I have one of them too. Unfortunately there are no stations to receive so I decided to disassemble it and will make a Oscilloscope from it. That's what I call recycling!

  • @hardstyle905

That's a great idea to make an Oscilloscope! Make a video of it and post it as a video response!

  • nooo crt tv don go away

  • and people wonder why recycaling is expensive....... each monitor takes 10min of labour look how many there are!!!!

  • poor monitors crt for life xD

i have lcd don't worry for me xD

  • This music is really unfitting, it makes the whole process seem sad somehow.

  • That's 'cos it IS sad. I like CRT's a lot and always will.

  • @ChrisMew2 they are a lost cause

  • yeah. Got that right Tithis. WindowsAndMacintosh uploded a HD version with better music.

    Techno.

  • Im currently using a 22" OLED display. The picture is beautifal. You wont see anything like it imo until you see one in action

  • Should see the 240hz LCD's they have out now.

Crystal clear motion. And i mean Crystal clear.

  • Fair enough, but why throw away working things?

  • oh i pass my monitors along, My friends grandma has my old 19" CRT's (two of them)

Company i used to work for, we sold shipping containers of CRT's to companies overseas, for "televisions" as they put it, dunno how that would work. but i guess it does.

hah you can get almost 40 cents per focuser here in the us. just for the copper.

  • 40 cents..."WOW"

  • Finally learned how monitors recycle so thank you for uploading this video but music seems for me strange and unlike!!

  • Had to buy my first non-CRT TV recently. Not as good a picture as the CRT, but the cabinet looks great.

But for the computer, I'm sticking with CRT. I have a 15" now that I've had for at least 10 years. Might go to 17" if this ever conks out.

  • CRTs are great if you play online games competitively like I do like the nerdy-nerd I am. I can see the game world at least 25 more frames than other players due to the high-frequency refresh rate. CRTs are at the height of their technology now so it's almost silly to pass them by for the slower but still sleeker-looking LCDs. CRTs should be treated like old hot rods in my opinion and should be gathered up for the poor kids who want to play games in brilliant colors at a fast speed on a budget.

  • Those kids of could would have to be able to carry the things away themselves lol

  • Amen!

    I love CRT's and have two 40" TV's as well as about 10 smaller TV's from 32" to 19".

If you have a CRT TV in your house, save at least one for nostalgia purposes.

Also CRT's are the best for old video games such as NES, SNES, Genesis etc....

  • nice song

  • I wonder what they would do with one of the old console TVs? They're freaking huge, and I don't think they'd fit on those conveyor belts and stuff. I have one (that doesn't work anymore, so no I'm not "overconsuming") that I indend to drop off to be sent to one of these plants.

  • Before you condemn your set to an untimely death, consider giving it to someone who could fix it. Check around--you might even find someone that's willing to buy it from you.

  • Cool thanks for posting this educational.

  • Electronic Bucher but litle more senitive :D

  • my old CRT I'm using now will soon end up in a recycling plant like that!!! Upgrading to a 22 inch flat panel monitor ..............................LOT better than a 17 inch OLD CRT!!! almost as old as me and it still works HAHA

  • haha exactly same thing with me

  • Any particular reason why you'd rather destroy your old monitor, rather than give it to someone who can use it?

  • @SpeakerPolice there are not that many people that would appreciate it . many people are more interested in the newer technology i.e. flat panel screens and what not

  • It is a shame, yes.

  • @SpeakerPolice

    i heard about :

    -electricity cost

    -transport

    -they are big

  • CRTs don't really use much more power than comparably-sized LCD TVs, that is a common misconception. But they are large and difficult to move. xD

  • Hi,this video is oddly sad.

  • this song very nice!!

who can tell me the name ??

    THX~

  • crap, i would rather do a complete disassemble and reuse the parts if i could. tons and tons of great parts in monitors!

  • I totally agree!!! Ferrites, HV electrolytics, semis etc....

  • yeah, stuff that can all be reused. you can make a fairly cheap tesla coil just from the flyback transformer alone with some other parts.

  • Exactly! YOU'RE a true thinker.....

  • lol thanks. vac tube tvs are rarely made anymore since flat panel is less expensive and doesnt contain any dangerous chemicals in it because of the RoHS Act.

  • That's right.

I don't mind LCDs, but I'm waiting until OLED displays are common. They seem to promise CRT's contrast ratio (or more), and, of course, no distortion or geometry adjustments!

  • @SpeakerVoiceCoil yeah, i can agree to OLED but once that certain LED dies, you cant fix it but i believe OLED works differently than what a regular LED does and is almost more like plasma but without the doping and other flaws. id love DMD/DLP tv sets as they have to be the most simplest out of all tv's ever made

  • Yeah, i think OLED is thin film, whereas "normal" LEDs are conventional monolithic. But pixels can die on LCDs as well, of course. And yes, video projectors are another great display method.

  • @SpeakerVoiceCoil

But you still have input lag and (assuming they don't FINALLY sort this out) motion blur. Even with a 2ms monitor.

  • Great video

    keep on reusing and recycling.

get the manufacturers to set up recycling sites in all countries and when it reaches end of life, boom anything there are no local markets for they can take and clean up. Either there or in another country, their cost! Maybe even subsidize end of life for those less valuable items, like dead crt's.

  • Reuse should come before recycle though...recycling should be the SECOND-last resort. The last resort, unfortunately, would be to landfill or incinerate. And this goes for absolutely ANY product you can think of.
