Another reason I really wouldn't compare this film to "Ratatouille" is that the use of colour and light is radically different in both films. There really is nothing unique about the animation/art in "Ratatouille", whereas in THIS film the use of colour, light and shadow is absolutely SHIMMERING:reminds me of those gorgeous paintings from the Renaissance Period!
Please understand that the book's author created these characters quite different from how they eventually came to appear onscreen. Both the characters and storyline were much DARKER in the book than they are onscreen. I personally feel that the plot and characters have been SOFTENED to a point where yes, this film DOES resemble "Ratatouille" far closer than it would have had the screenwriters honored the author's original vision.
LOL: Ah! Ahhh!
Rat: Shhh
Boy: Augh!
*RAT COVERS MOUTH*
Boy:Ahh!
Rat: Covers Mouth again
*BOY TAKES DEEP BREATH AND RAT STANDS IN FRONT OF HIS MOUTH*
I laughed so hard!
