Pavel Lisitsian was one of greatest Russian - Armenian singer. He was one of leader singers in Moscow Big Thearte ( opera and balet). This is part of russian opera Pikovaia Dama by Tchaikovsky.
This is singing and expression so impressive that words of praise is useless.
Pavel Lisitsian must always be remembered as one of the greatest exponents of singing on a level that is simply divine.
The double phrase near the end culminating on G natural and then continuing on the same breath is a phenomenon of nature. The only comparable singer to this is the great Titta Ruffo, though his voice was of a darker timbre.
holy sht, so obvious that hvorostovsky studied the same system and approach to singing as Lisitsian their vibrattos spin in a similar fashion. it is quite interesting to hear singers from different countries and how their voices differ, not simply their interpratations of the arias but the individual voice.
This is ear candy to the utmost--legato and arc of line is glorious....and such passion...how could Lisa go for Hermann after this aria?--I would totally cave....This, to me, is the best part of Pique Dame by far. Tchaikovsky surely knew longing.....
Yes it's simply perfection, but you know, Lisa wasn't quite right in the head poor girl - and with such a monstrous granny living in the house! - She decided to go for the psycho. Yeletsky was too good.
I cannot thank you enough for posting this!! I have always wanted to hear this sung by Lisitsian...it is absolutely marvelous!! This is what belcanto is all about.
Я Вас люблю, люблю безмерно....................Великий певец, великой страны! Здоровья Дагмаре Александровне Лисициан, Карине, Рузане, Гарику!

His is one of those voices, along with Mark Reizen's, that you cannot hear too often. Russia was unequalled for basses in those days
