As an American watching this version of Blockbusters I gotta say that Bob Holness was just as great as Bill Cullen on our American version of Blockbusters and this version of Blockbusters did a commendable job for making it very great for such a good long time and I tip my hats off for making it a huge success! P.S. RIP to Bill cullen of our US version and to Bob Holness, too! Great legends in the business!
they axed blockbusters for shit like the young doctors!!!! Im furious! R I P bob.. a gentleman.. theres many so called "presenters" who could learn from you...
I liked Bob Holness' farewell speech in the very last-ever edition from the ITV version of Blockbusters it was so kind and also very poignant.
The Man in the white shirt seen doing the hand-jive in the gallery at 0:41 that's director Hector Stewart he was interviewed by Central Tonight on the day that Bob sadly died.
I sat sat next to him during one of the ITV's Telethon programmes at Birmingham and what a true gentleman he was signing autographs with no hesitation or moaning. I still have mine and always will. R.I.P Bob a real true gent
I wonder what Mark Goodson thought about this version. For those who don't know, he was an American television producer who specialized mainly in game shows. When he produced this show in America, it was for adults and only lasted a year and a half in its original run and four months for its revival. In any case it's still a great game. He did have other successes he produced, such as The Price is Right, which is still on in America, twenty years after his death.
My parents best friend said that he was on the same flight as Bob on the way to the Seychelles, and says he was a lovely man, and my Aunt has lived in Pinner for years, she is just about to move to Windsor. Bob we will make sure that Blockbusters will make a reappearance one day, the way it should be shown, just the way you used to do it.
RIP Bob,a true gentleman a real old school broadcaster always smart as a new pin, always took a real interest in the contestants( not just in it for the money). A talented man from an era when people had respect, not sure what that hand jive thing is all about,he will be remembred as a nice guy.
To me, the Hand Jive used to mark the start of the weekend (as is always used to be on the Friday Episode only) - Friday afternoons were always Knightmare, then Blockbusters...
A part of my childhood died today with you Bob, RIP xxx
RIP Bob! Along with my family, you helped teach me to read when I sat in my High Chair, waching Blockbusters!
My Gran and Mum were impressed to see me shunting my letters about correctly and saying "S please Bob", "J please Bob". I loved your show and I'm sad I'll never see anymore.
R.I.P Bob, have been watching Blockbusters every night on Challenge for the past 5 months and im 23, i love the show and im a new fan and im gutted to hear this :((
Deep sympathies to the family, friends and former colleagues of the late Bob Holness. Very sadly Bob died early this morning Friday 06 January 2012, at the age of 83.
Blockbusters was an iconic quiz show that inspired a generation and Holness hosted it with a refined mix of professionalism, warmth and humour that I only now fully appreciate as I watch the repeats on Youtube. Two decades later I start many working days by listening to the theme tune of Blockbusters, as it inspires me to reach for the stars.
@andyvaisey Voice over men should be banned from ALL end credit music. I mean someone actually worked hard to compose those tunes (in most cases), and when they crunch or speed up the credits to show other stuff... that's the only recognition half the crew get a ,lot of the time... and it is just taken away to casually promote something pants!
@sword4thelord True. It's bullshit when they do that. It's to stop people changing over to the other channel, apparently. Charlie Brooker did a rant on it. Search "Charlie Brooker credits" on Youtube.
RIP Bob gone are the days of decent game/quiz shows
