GH Wins Best Drama 2008 at 35th Annual Daytime Emmys

I look at these wins of GH's now as being WAY overdue for the many years in the 80's that they were kicking A&& in the ratings as the NUMBER ONE SOAP OPERA on television, but were always getting SCREWED at the Emmys.  They were past due to be recognized for their greatness!!

In my opinion, GH used to be great but then Phelps came on board, along with Guza, and felt the best vision for the show should be having the mob central to every story, women being stupid. Not a good soap if you ask me.

All of my friends who watch GH say they can't stand any of the stories and have only liked a select few over the past several years. That sentiment seems to be echoed at all the GH forums I visit.

GH, AMC & DOOL have the most fans. I really don't get why Y&R is always #1 in the ratings. I don't know anyone who watches it, everyone I know in their 20s/30s/40s watch ABC soaps and Days. YR was created by William Bell and he knew how to make it #1 and their writing has been tops (not when Lyn Latham was writing) GH sucks that my opinion, but they are always writing mob stories and their writing is dark! Do your research YR#1 and has been since 1988 and it has it audience and #1 in women 18-49 GH is ABC#1 daytime drama but it not all that!

There are time the writing is lazy, but I've been a fan a long time. I am not surprised that GL was cancelled! ABC soaps and DOOL have an army of fans who would cause world war 3 if they ever cancelled General Hospital, Days of our lives or All My children. No one really cares that Guiding light is fading out, like its old lady viewers, the show is outdated. GL is dead last among young ppl in ratings. GH is # 1, Days & AMC are tied for #2 &Y&R is tied w/ OLTL for # 3 in the 18-49 age group, the target audience for marketing/advertising. The "light" is gone!!

It is my opinion that shows should not win Drama Series Emmys when they sucked the entire year, save for a couple episodes. It should go to a show that had a consistently good year. Metro Court Hostage was great directing but what about great writing?

Who is degraded or portrayed as stupid? All of the women on the show tend to be the more stable people. Sam, Carly, Alexis, Emily, Robin, even Liz are not potrayed as stupid or weak. They are often victims yes but men don't usually save them they save themselves.

GH may not have had their best year that year but it certainly didn't suck. Neither GH nor Y&R won for directing or writing. Those seem to be what are being argued here, I personally think that wasn't a great year for any of the soaps

The Price Is Right is the reason that Y and R comes in number 1, most viewers who watch that game show stay tuned into that channel and the ones with those Nelsen boxes even if they change the channel once on that station, that ratings have been done. GH is a good soap, but, I think it can get better, storyline wise use of all its characters, including its veteran actors. The Mob storyline is ok, but there needs to be some ballance put back into the storylines, where every character on the show was invovlved in that storyline in some way...as a friend, doctor, nurse, hostage, etc.

I've watch Y&R on off now for some time as well. I love GH, and I'm not a big fan of the mob part and I agree Y&R is one of the most boring shows I've ever watched, but that's just my opinion.

Julie and Rebecca were robbed of a nomination as was Kirsten Storms. I am a Maxie fan and a Belle fan, both during Kirsten's time for those two characters, and I don't think she's seen any better material than that when Georgie was murdered, Metro Court Hostage crisis, and the return of Felicia.

They only get good ratings since, in most markets, they go up against GL, which is pretty much just as bad as it and GL does not pull in many people. They are not like AMC who is up against the second half of Y&R and B&B in most markets and STILL pulls in numbers closing them in on third place.

I love GH. The speech was a little sketchy, but Y&R's little bit about 100 Emmy wins and 1000 weeks at number one bugged me even more. I was just glad to see anyone win but them. Y&R was horrible. Ratings have nothing to do with quality...

jill wasn't being cocky by saying 'well this was expected'. the fact of the matter is, gh was nominated in one individual talent category in the entire program. winning wasn't expected, seeing as how bad the odds were.

If you look on the GH wiki...it clearly states that Y&R has been #1..while your low budget GH has been 3rd or 4th...lol The Young and the Restless is currently the highest-rated daytime drama on American television. As of 2009, it has appeared at the top of the weekly Nielsen Ratings in that category for more than 1000 weeks since 1988.(That 21yrs just in case you lost count)..Y&R has won 100 Daytime Emmys, along with 334 nominations...So lets see Old ass Luke & Laura top that

Actually, that was true...GH was almost cancelled, in the late 1970s, but then came Gloria Monty, Luke, and Laura. If it were not for those three, they would have gone off the air a long time ago.

I love GH to death...but they absolutely did not deserve to win. The writing on the show is brilliant, but jill Phelps is horrible! She is the only part of the show that I dislike. Come on she came of as a really big bitch!

Especially with Kirsten Storms and Julie Berman being left off the younger actress ballot. That was the stupidest thing I;ve ever seen. I was shocked. GH deserved to win. They only had one actor in all the actor categories nominated. Pathetic.

Because other than the the Hostage Crisis the acting was trully medicroe for the cast becuz this was the year of the stupid liason baby storyline. Julie character was annoying the entire year. They have material to win this year but not for really for 1 month of great acting.

JPF is responsible for killing off Maureen of GL, Frankie of AW and continuance of the endless mob-killing on GH, because of her arrogance and ignorance. IMHO, she doesn't help daytime she actually hurts it. So it's not surprising for her to make that stupid statement and certainly GH did not deserve to win this year.

Lord forgive me for playing devil's advocate, but I'm not sure Phelps wasn't being sarcastic when she made the "expected" remark. The way she did her eyes, voice and hands made me think she was going "wow!" and being sarcastic about it....but I could be wrong. Either way, not the best way to make a noble or even greatful impression. I'd never seen the woman before seeing this and after seeing and hearing Phelps, I kind of understand why GH is the way it is now. I'll shut up now. ;-)
