  • The mere fact that Shhailendra chose Raj Kapoor birthday to commit suicide explains lot of things.

  • I wonder where Mr Vivekgautam3 got his information on Shailendra's suicide? This is so not true and extremely hurtful to those close to Shailendraji

  • This immortal song was composed by S D BURMAN and penned by SHAILENDRA. It is a song which made Ashaji cry when she heard the words from Shailendraji. ALL good songs in BANDINI including O JANEWALE by Mukeshji.

  • very nice and heart-touching song... really difficult to control your tears if you have felt the pain of separation of your daughter or sister... great lyrics and great music...

  • i think this song depicts a lot of emotions...very simple and sweet in lataji's voice

  • My favorite song EVER

  • heartwrenching song :'(

  • It is very hard to keep your tears rolling after hearing this ever touching SDB melody. great words and great music..

  • What words ? Stirs your heart even after 52 years of its release .

Thats Shailendra for you who died young n unsung.

wow superb lyrics on soothing music by the great SD burman

  • Was Shailendra the lyricist of this gem?

What a great combination of his with SD Barman.

Its really sad that Shailendra committed suicide on Raj Kapoor birthday totally heart broken by his close friend petty behavior.

  • Great Song... i am far away from my home it has reminded me my sister, my tears are on my face and i dont want to wipe them and feeling a lot of love and pain for my sister... one of greatest songs which stengthen your relationship with your family.

Thanks a lot for uploading this song... i m missing my family too much

  • those words are so moving..... choked up.

  • Although it is difficult to bear Sadness but then life has one this type of color also.

  • @alps112001 bandani directed by BIMAL ROY.

  • Beautiful song......... Evergreen.

  • beautiful song

  • Nathuram you are right. Can not listen till end.

    Muneeb

  • So So SAD song

  • Great song. Cant listen to it without tears. What an epithet. It symbolises condition of women in India under Indian (male chauvinists dominated) marriage, which is very similar to jail or rigorous imprisonment without any rights or escape !

  • Amazingly cynical take on the song! Please note she is longing for her brother (male)...making a plea to her father (Babul means father)...longing for her maternal home.....She is in Jail...not her husband's home...dont know the story..but its possible he's dead!

  • @NathuramSweetsay Very true...the saddest part is, it's still happening today...

  • only if could change tears into words, there would be no ending to comments........

  • babul thi main tere naazn ki paali fir kyun hui main parai........ beete re jug koi chithiya naa paati naa koi naihar se aaye re...........,, one of my favourite song.......where ever I sang this each and every married women had tears in eyes........but every time they asked me to sing the same and cried again and again..........even I finish it with tears in my own eyes........

  • There cannot be any doubt that SD Burman along with S-J was the best music composer we ever got. Moreover SD gave a complete new style to playback singing. How can any body imagine composing tunes of folk songs of the East Bengal's going to match on Dev Anand or Guru Datt's lip. Most of that golden era singers sung their best song in SD's tune. Its true from Rafi Saab (Hum bekhudi main) to Kishore Da (mere sapno ki rani), Lata (kato se khich ke..) to Talat Saab (Jalte hay jiske lia).

  • Oh my god ...this song makes me cry .

  • Oh my god .....this song makes my cry.

  • wonderful sonf from master composer S.D. BURMAN

  • Lirics can't be better than this. Love this.

  • film Bandini 1963 indiam hindi movie

  • but i have tried a lot for this movie but there is only songs not full movie

  • Movie is Bandini. Real masterpiece for serious movie lovers. All great artists, director Bimal Roy, Music SD Burman, Actors Nutan, Ashok Kumar, Dharmendra, Powerful story line. Buy the DVD if you can.

  • Movie name is 'Bandini'.

  • Second verse:

Spiteful youth seized my toys, and stole my dolls. Father, I was your pride and joy; why did you send me away? Eons have passed, with no letters, no messages, and nobody visiting from my childhood home. Just this one year, father, send brother to get me.

  • Refrain and first verse: Just for this year, father, send brother; send for me in the rainy season. When my childhood friends return, send a message for me.

Once again swings will be hung from the mango tree, and the rains will fall. Once again, father, the cold, lively rains will return to your courtyard. My eyes brim over and my heart is wounded when I remember my childhood days.

  • thanks a ton..

  • bro. please upload the movie or mail me link where I can watch it

  • have u got this movie if u then pls share

  • I wanted to share this video with my son daughter (who have grown up outside of India) to enjoy the intense sentiments played out by Asha within Bimal Roy's incomparable movie-making. But the shameful comments by by some immature and unthinking listeners precludes that option for me. I am sure most other listeners feel the same way. I don't know how to delete those tasteless comments. Bellztoll ji, can you please upload this video again to remove their dirty smudges?

  • Most heart-tugging song! Been looking for its video since several months ago when I regularly started listening to it from a CD while driving long distance and back every week. Funny, as a school boy enamoured of Shankar Jaikishen's romantic music, I did not have any interest in such songs as this. Thanks a bunch, Bellztoll.

  • The song is from Bimal Roy's production Bandini. Beautiful rendering by Asha Bhonsle.

  • Looking at this souful inmate singing, it tells the story of a girl who was playful and expected love.. but in a male dominated society she is denied love and the right to happi

  • this is not the true meaning of the song my dear. she is missing her childhood terribly as she has been sent to jail for supporting a freedom fighter and her dad dies n so n so.

  • Excellent song....:)

now after watching the song ...i wanted to watch the movie...but aahh..! not available....:(

any way thanks for the upload...good work..

  • excellent

  • Only SD Burman could make such a gut-wrenching composition!!! Sheer genius!

  • Could someone please translate the lyrics?

  • Refrain and first verse: Just for this year, father, send brother; send for me in the rainy season. When my childhood friends return, send a message for me.

Once again swings will be hung from the mango tree, and the rains will fall. Once again, father, the cold, lively rains will return to your courtyard. My eyes brim over and my heart is wounded when I remember my childhood days.

  • Thanks buddy for the translation!

  • How dare you talk of compromise! Most of us leave everything behind and end up marrying uncaring selfish so called 'man'. Superior my foot.

  • typical response from a typical janani.

  • A janani gave birth to you and another unfortunate one married you. As you said "if the wife ever read this though she'd slit my throat". I hope she does! Stellar my arse!

  • i'll have u know i say that shit to her face and she laughs it off like a person with a good sense of humour should and which is exactly why i love her and we get along so well. it's idiots like you who can't take a joke and ruin the name for the rest of the women. my wife knew what she was getting into and she's dealing with it just fine. and yes, it helps that i'm a stellar guy and tend to her every need. so you can fucking ride it grandma.

  • You are beneath contempt. I'm glad you are happy with your wife. Good luck to her!

  • spinnersdomain... i feel like thrashing right now, i literally want to... internet lets people show their inner side anonymously otherwise we never knew such shitty minds walk among us. u know ur wife must also have laughed when u say u r a stellar guy. she is trying to avoid a confrontation and try make a good life even when she knows that she has an asshole next to her. and someday if she choses to take u head on, then u will become a shitty loony guy... i hope that day comes, i sincerely do.

  • Use your eyes-see the state the poor girl is in. You are a conceited pig headed nasty man- I hope you can fool your wife for the rest of her life! Hit your own head with the jutti!!!

  • What a pathetic excuse from a pathetic man! Try to understand the words of the song-you may learn someting. An ignorant person like you can only come up with excuses now because people don't like your views.

  • After your views 1 month ago and your own description now, not even God almighty can help you improve yourself. From now on, keep your demeaning views about women to yourself , you imbecile.

  • I bet you really feel the pain of indian woman specially when she is separated from her parents. It is so touch for a girl to get over the past and get into future which are two different families. Why only a female should suffer. I know sceen is chaning now-a-days. But not completely in rural india. Those who are tough can survive, but emotional females are really at this painful act in real life. God give strenth to all women on earth who are going thru such painful life.

  • From where do they get,A great voice, great music, great poetry, truly image of God.

  • Diamonds Are Forever

  • So sad but true - only a woman knows the despair.

  • oohh my God... what a feeling u got... listen calmly n enjoyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy.. thanks to Bellztool

  • waha waha jawab nahi es ganey ka

  • one of the best and most touching song..

  • awesome!

  • What pain and melody in the music! The lyrics are equally sad...

  • Oldie Goldie!!! 4eva:-)

  • absolutely gawjuss. I am accompanying this on flute for a singer for an Independence Day event in 2 weeks

  • Shear magic.Many thanks.

  • Bollywoods mercenaries have robbed Indians of their love and feelings and destroyed their soul .We are a lost people thanks to the scounderels of Bollywodd ...May we find ourselves again !!

  • Any daughter away from her parents would relate to this.My favourite, even after 31 years of marriage, parents no more in this world!!!

  • translation by ektajiv- so good i am simply repeating it - Yet again from the mango tree

the swing shall hang in the rains

to our home shall come a breezy glee

    wet the porch and panes

my heart bleeds and I shed tears

with memories of the childhood years.

  • translation by ektajiv- Send brother o'er, father this year

to get me home in the showers,

when my childhood friends too shall return

get me for a reunion of ours.

  • ektajiv- This wretched youth robbed my toys-

    my toys and my doll,

    With all your love, father,

why,why am I forgotten at all?

For ages I've been longing to hear

    and seeing someone dear

  • undistilled pure genius- golden age of indian cinema- 1940-70. what a contrast with modern mediocrity

  • As someone born in late 70s, and brought up on "modern mediocrity" of "Bollywood", I have to agree with you. There are very few movies now that are worth watching, specially for an expat like me. Guru and Swades come to mind. Song of the old were truly written by poets, sung by true artist singers, and music was worth listening. Not this modern 200 beats up minute mania.

Thank you for sharing this video and for the translation.

  • I would still recommend you see these excellent movies- taare zameen par, paheli, saathiya, and black which is a bit slow.

also good are- chak de india, bhool bhulaiya, khosla ka ghosla, zubeida, munna bhai, lage raho munna bhai.

for pure entertainment- dhoom and dhoom 2. but yes- MEDIOCRITY RULES FOR THE REMAINING 95%.

however- i cannot praise taare zameen par enough.

  • impoosible to control the emotions

  • most loving song of past memory of childhood

  • Thank you for the translation Ektajiv, and thank you bellztoll for sharing this video. Brings tears to my eyes.

  • all time favourite......mood fresh ho jata hai.

  • what a sad song !!!!!!!

  • can someone please tell which movie this is from and if someone has the movie, that wud be great

  • hi

    maguru

this is from film Bandini, one of the best film of Bimal roy, Actors Ashok Kumar, Nutan

music by S.D Burman, Lyrics, Shailendera

  • thanks,i appreciate it......

  • Shreya Ghoshal sang this on chote ustads (star voice of India) she sang it so beautifully that she sang herself to tears... ask me for the video I have it. It's not on youtube but it's a MUST HEAR! It hits all the emotional chords this original one does.

  • Dear Sidya1: Could you possibly post that video clip of Shreya Ghishal on YouTube, so many of us can see Shreya's talent once again? I know that she is capable of being the equal of anyone. Thanks in advance.

  • "Savan" means spring or rainy season when flowers grew up...

  • Translation:

This year, Dad, send my brother to escort me home during Savan.

All the girls I grew up with will also be back then.

  • Excellent rhymed translation, Ektajiv, of this moving lyric. I agree with all those who said it is difficult to restrain tears when listening to this song ,for it resonates with many human experiences and memories . The words, the music and the voice all blend seamlessly to stir one's heart and soul. The trio involved in the number shine together. Thank you, Bellztoll, for sharing the clip.

  • Is there any doubt at all about the genious that Asha ji is? Her usual songs are in the "upbeat" genre, but here she plumbs the depths of the human heart with a penetrating, tear-soaked voice that fully matches her sister Lataji's skill at doing the same. What sweetness mixed with what sadness!

  • Movie: BANDINI by Bimal Daa Roy.

Very touchy song. I always try to control tears, and I don't know why it brings tears. I have no words to explain what chord it touches. But if you have the similar experience, please give me some words to express my feelings.

  • You feel sad becasue it takes you down some memory lane where your consience and unconscience have stored deep emotions for your blood relations sister-father-mother etc. Everyone has those feelings. So you are in good company. Good luck.

  • You have a point. 20 girls in the family I grew up with went to sasural, and there was crying all the time. May that is chord or some of so many "bichhade sabhee baree baree" type experience.

  • You feel sad becasue it takes you down some memory lane where your consience and unconscience have stored deep emotions for your blood relations sister-father-mother etc. Everyone has those feelings. So you are in good company. Good luck.

  • om, I am 50 years old and I still cry every time I hear this song...it is true to the bpne and thats why it touches ones soul...I miss my home..in India

  • does have any body rafi's great song from shoay aur shabnam "janey kia dhondhti rahti hain yeh ankheym mujh main, rakh key dher main shola hay na chingari

  • sachindev could make one cry. An inharently happy pilu raga is used to describe exactly opposite emotions. India used to be a country of geniuses.

  • beautiful such a soulful song. thanks for sharing

  • bring tears every time without fail. which movie this is from?

  • this is from the movie bandini... excellent movie... outstanding performance by nutan & ashok kumar

  • legend has it that ashaji was so engrossed during rendition, she could not notice the tears that were rolling from her eyes.

  • whether asha had tears in her eyes while singing these lines, I don't know, but whenever i listen to them, I definitely have them in torrents!

Hats off to great SD and Asha. a truly wonderful composition rendered equally marvellously. Million thanks for uploading.

  • Oops! The translation got posted the other way round! Para 3 appears first, followed by para two and one.

  • good work. thanks.

  • This wretched youth robbed my toys-

    my toys and my doll,

    With all your love, father,

why,why am I forgotten at all?

For ages I've been longing to hear

    and seeing someone dear

  • Yet again from the mango tree

the swing shall hang in the rains

to our home shall come a breezy glee

    wet the porch and panes

my heart bleeds and I shed tears

with memories of the childhood years.

  • I'm posting a rough translation for those who don't know hindi. Excuse me for not sticking to the dictionary for the sake of rhyme of rhythm

Send brother o'er, father this year

to get me home in the showers,

when my childhood friends too shall return

get me for a reunion of ours.

  • Very good attempt to convey the core message. just beautiful. I know how difficult it is. I tried on two different songs. One is Aakhri Dao (humsafar saath apna....)

  • this movie was shot in my native place

  • lyrics are awesome..you almost get goosebumps if you think about this tragic sentiment..

  • a superb and unique song....but an emotion felt by every woman....and sung by asha ji with pefection. thanks for sharing...

  • Thank you so much for sharing, please keep on add songs like this. Thats what makes the bollywood music up instead of the shit coming up now adays.

  • My sincere thanks,keep-up the good work.

  • very sensitive song...

  • kash ye din wapis aa jayen.............kitni masoomiyat thee us time mein.

  • Heavenly voice.

  • Truly a masterpiece.

  • Amar geet. One my favorites. Very impressive all together by the singer, song write and composer.

  • is there anyone who can put this music into context - after and before sorts!!

  • the songs sung by asha bhonsle in this movie deal with prison life for women. o panchchi pyaare is about the desperation of the women inmates as they live life in a cage. ab ke baras is about the women and their sense of being abandoned. Bimal roy interspersed these commentaries on prison life to illustrate Kalyani's [Nutan's] circumstances. They're not your standard Hindi movie song dependent on the preceding scene. Hope that helped :)

  • I heard that Asha B. cried while recording this song.

  • This film was excellent. thank u sooo much for putting up old DECENT and MELODIOUS songs, jaise aaj kal nahi hote.

  • What a sense of composition! The circle of the handmill, the simple mud wall, the strip of light near the women sitting alone. Stunning.

  • more than the video, i liked ur comment

  • After all its one of the greatest masterpiece in Hindi cimema by the legend himself:Bimal Roy...the team work was exemplary--his direction, Burman Dada's music, Gulzaar Saab's composition & Asha Tai's voice!

  • Agreed with everything except that the 'composition' or rather lyrics aren't by Gulzar but by Shailendra. Summoning heart-wrenching profoundity through simple words was Shailendra's mastery and it is more than apparent here. To sample 'Bairan jawani ne chheene khilone aur meri gudiya churayi'.. a lament for a lost carefree childhood. Dada Burman's simple, spontaneous and emotionally rich tunes form the perfect vehicle for Shailendra's lyrics.

  • You are right about this song being penned by Shailendra saab,I was generalizing the situation as Gulzaar Saab was the second lyricist for this movie (Jogi jab se tu aayaa mere dware etc)...I guess I missed Shailendra saab, sorry about that. Shailendra saab was more of a poet, sample his fare in Teesri Kasam...kinda in the line of Gurudutt saab, who alongwith Haribhai (Sanjeev Kumar saab), Moti Lal ji & Dada Moni was, IMO, among the gr8st actors of Hindi cinema.

  • such a classic song. great to see the video
