  • Sissel + MoTab = Stunning.

  • Believe it or not I could understand part of what she was saying, and all I have is rudimentary german

  • If there is an angel on earth, that's Sissel.

  • nomás por tí aprendo noruego

  • Kuwait's right! Beautiful:) * Thanks

  • Maravilhosa. Voz de anjo.

  • Yeah, I don't need to know what she's saying; I could listen to that voice all day!

  • She is simply an angel

  • They must of filmed the monologue twice because she said the beginning in english as well.

  • @hop208 This is the link to Sissel saying the monologue in English.

  • Праздник святой Люссии - это очень красиво и приятно что песня связана именно с ним. Спасибо.

  • superbe artiste

  • Nana moskouri can sing, Barbra Streisand can sing too, but Sissel have something divine and angelic in her way of singing, almost too god to be true!!!

  • Nrk1 ftw.

  • I super love the high notes.. huhuhu... 2:58-3:30.. Even though she is classical-pop soprano, i really do like the way she uses her headt tone.. huhuhu..

  • @oblivionIIT That's my favorite part too :) She was classically trained though, and can reach a high F.

  • We are singing this in a choir group called Sumus, and I am going to sing the.. "aaa" part in the middle of the song. 2:40 I think? I am very nervous, cause when Sissel has sung it, who can.. live up to that? I mean.. That is really difficult. But I hope that I'll get it right : )

  • She speaks the Bergen dialect:)

  • ahh! So beautiful :D

  • I went to a concert with Sissel yesterday. Fantastic performance. 3th time I hear her sing LIVE.

  • I didn't understand a blinkin' word of what she said but I could listen to her for a good long time and never get tired of it.

  • From a blog "Latin IS English!", there's a translation of the Latin lyrics: Light of life Strength of life From whom hope thrives Lead during the shade of night May (our) feet be strengthened. Silence Soon enters The power of death is strong Lifes path will cause pain May He assuredly hide us.
  • takk Gud for å gi meg Sissel

  • sissel-the most refined voice made by god to the last breath

  • I don't know a word of Norwegian...but I would listen to Sissel recite the phone book.

  • @forbus56

    LOL! Me too!

  • i am conne to play this song in canada whit my brass band

  • Sissel can talk in any language , even norwegian, which I can't understand. But when she starts singing, her voice touches my soul so deeply that I feel her entering my home. I'm so glad we have some videos available to watch and hear such a wonderful voice.

  • Such a clear, precise voice...lovely

  • This was performed with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir in Salt Lake City the Christmas of 2006.

  • En alldeles underbar konsert! Underbar sång, underbara aktörer, underbar Sissel!

  • Beautiful song!!

  • Heard this song first time at a tv-sent charity-show in Norway. Guess this must have been for about 8-10 years ago, and this tune was actually a non-vocal tune then performed by the composer Frode Alnæs who is one of Norway's better guitarists. Sadly this performance isn't aviable on youtube.. But i swear that the performance wasn't less good than sissel's.

  • This is so beautiful!

  • Frysninger!! hun er så flink

  • Sissel er en engel. Sissel er en stjerne!

    Jeg elsker Sissel!

  • i'm so grateful for our sissel...

  • This is the Bergen-dialect. Very beautiful. Close to Stordamål, my dialect.

  • Sounded a little like Old-English or Old-Frisian, is this a very old-fashioned dialect? I thought I heard at least "fam hus ta hus" (from house to house?) and a "goan" (go?).

  • Actually, Bergensermål is quite a new-fashioned dialect, though more beautiful than any other norwegian dialect. Sissel does indeed have a better language than most other Bergen-people.

  • Haha, yeah, more "beautiful" according to you and people from Bergen. Each and every part of Norway feels they have the most beautiful dialect. Bergen's just another west coast dialect.

  • Her dialect is only slightly different from basic Norwegian, more guttural and uses fricatives, it does not change the vocabulary or the grammar.

She says: "fra hus til hus" which does mean "from house to house".

Norwegian is a Germanic language just like English. In 1066 at the Battle of Hastings the two parties could understand each other with few problems.

Britain and Ireland was conquered by Norwegians and Danes during the Viking Age, they left a lasting legacy in genes and language.

  • The Australian Aboriginal languages are just about the only languages out of all the languages in the world that have no phonemic fricative and even they have allophonic fricatives. In other words, it is no surprise that she uses fricatives in Norwegian since it naturally has 6 phonemic fricatives. I am interested to know what you mean by that though if you feel like expounding.

  • thanks. that's informative.

  • beautiful, her singing makes me cry

  • She did this song in '95 with a norwegian male choir called Lee Scapoli and you can see it under the user defboy30. I thought it was a better setting with the male vocals backing her but still - Sissels stunning in any setting!

  • she does some of the vocals in the songs of Titanic

  • all the vocals;)

  • Norwegian sounds so nice. She does her r's like the french r. I usually hear the trilled one. I think this sounds better than French.

  • I must say, Norwegian is a beautiful language.

  • totally

  • "Vitae Lux"

Beautiful, by Sissel. Tusen Takk! - Penny

  • i love this song, but the "Sissel in Symphony" version is better... it has a steady drum beat, sounds a bit more new age... i love it a lot!

  • I agree. however, I think it is cool that a song like this can be played so different. So I enjoy both this versjon and the pop versjon

  • "Vitae Lux"/ Light Of Life -Belissimo!

Sissel, as angelic & beautiful singing as ever. Attended a fantastically touching concert by her recently @ Pantages theatre in Minneapolis,MN. (Few know of the connection

between Scandinavia-ie.Norway,Sweden) with another beautiful country,Italy. - Penny

  • I....LOVE....this song.

  • Faultless.

  • Delicate high note~

  • Fortsettelse:

  • continuation:

Every village had its own Lucia.

In Scandinavia it's now traditionthat on December 13th -

a young woman walks first in the procession -

    - dressed in whiteand with a crown of light on her head.

And they sing of light and hope.

The light and hope that symbolizes an even stronger and clearer light:

The light of life that came to us,and that we celebrate every Christmas.

  • @caazzblackcat

    thk for the english interpretation

  • For loukelly who requested a transcript of Sissels introduction.

    English:

During the cold winter months when, the sun can only be seen a few hours -

    - or never, a custom from northern Italy has come to us in Scandinavia:

The celebration of light during darkness: the procession of Santa Lucia.

For hundreds of years, on December 13th,a young woman dressed in a white gown.

Wearing a crown on her head and a torch in her hand she went from house to house -

    - with gifts and comforting words.

  • if you could hear an angel sing they would sound like Sissel
