First of all thank you very much for making the video to explain something than most non Japanese people simply do not understand (me included). There is so much confusing information about bowing in martial arts. I my opinion this video is great with precise, consistent and persistent information. Exactly what is needed to understand the standing bow. Thank you again.
I am in the process of watching these, I appreciate both the instruction with the shinai but also the instruction regarding proper cultural respect. Unfortunately there is no Kendo near where I live in Colorado. I would like to get into it as I did AKK and other competition growing up but as I get older I want something more artistic while still competative. Cheers mate.
I didn't watch this video because I thought I knew how to bow. Obviously I didn't as I always looked down while bowing to both my Sabum-nim (sensei) and my opponents. Thank you for making this clear to me.
Thank you! It is very nice of you saying that. There some more videos and articles about kendo at kendo-guide. Please come and check it out when you have time.
Here I should mention a bit more. Even when we train/spar with an elder and a high ranked person and bow to them, we have to look at them. We do not want to look down in this case.
After training/sparring, we should bow down NOT looking into their eyes.

Very informative! I wasn't aware of the angle differences between bows to an elder or one of higher standing and to an opponent/partner. Thank you!

Thanks guys and man it has been a while since you left a comment here. Sorry.
I am glad that you liked the video. I learned English in NZ. Maybe the accent is fading out because I live in US now.
Cheers guys!
