The problem with what most people who claim they have a sufficient reason with closing GITMO is that they say we tortured terrorists and were cruel. When in fact we were very tolerant of them, we gave them their native foods and allowed them to practice Islam. And waterboarding is NOT torture, terrorists cut off appendages and wore thing than that. These people who think the terrorists should have more rights then they are out of their minds.
you use the word terrorists but can you actually prove the fact that these detainees are in fact terrorists. They have been held there for the past 3-4 yrs, the US has not been able to generate any proof against them, the US govt. refused to share any progress with the Americans regarding the prosecutions of the detainees (what is it that they are hiding and if they are so sure about their tactics then why do they need to hide), and finally 500 detainees have been released.
These people are Enemy Combatants. They should not be subject to our laws and our rights.

4-5 yrs have passed and the US has not been able to prove that these people are in fact terrorists or are involved with 9/11. The result? 500 of these innocent individuals have been released back to their countries. More to come this year. An individual is innocent until proven guilty. US no matter how much they try will not be able to hold them forever on the basis of paranoid ideologies ans suspicion. Eventually the innocent will go back. Now how long will it take? Not very long.
They are not releasing detainees ad mass because they are *innocent*, they are releasing them because they can offer them no more intelligence. The problem with what most people who claim they have a sufficient reason with closing GITMO is that they say we tortured terrorists and were cruel. When in fact we were very tolerant of them, we gave them their native foods and allowed them to practice Islam. And waterboarding is NOT torture, terrorists cut off appendages and wore thing than that. These people who think the terrorists should have more rights then they are out of their minds.

you use the word terrorists but can you actually prove the fact that these detainees are in fact terrorists. They have been held there for the past 3-4 yrs, the US has not been able to generate any proof against them, the US govt. refused to share any progress with the Americans regarding the prosecutions of the detainees (what is it that they are hiding and if they are so sure about their tactics then why do they need to hide), and finally 500 detainees have been released.

4-5 yrs have passed and the US has not been able to prove that these people are in fact terrorists or are involved with 9/11. The result? 500 of these innocent individuals have been released back to their countries. More to come this year. An individual is innocent until proven guilty. US no matter how much they try will not be able to hold them forever on the basis of paranoid ideologies ans suspicion. Eventually the innocent will go back. Now how long will it take? Not very long.

They are not releasing detainees ad mass because they are *innocent*, they are releasing them because they can offer them no more intelligence. Rather to be released they are transferred to their home country's governments. many former detainees end up facing something a little more harsh than Guantanamo, maybe something involving pliers and fingernails. How do you know they are a terrorist? Have they been charged? Have the received Habeas Corpus which came into existance in the 1600's, but concepts in the Magna Carta in the 1200's!

We know they are terrorists, because many of them were caught fighting US forces, and working with other terrorists. We have the right to hold them until the end of the hostilities; unless you'd like these psychos to come live with you and your family. No? Didn't think so.
