I born in Sapporo and lived there for 12 years. I have been lived in a few different cities in Japan but.....still no-where is better than Sapporo. Clean, not too many people, nice places and BEST FOOD!!!!

I'm terrified of spiders, i was wondering how bad are they in Hokkaido? i know they'll be there, but i wouldn't be able to handle something like a Tarantula. Northern japan seems to be similar in climate to the midwest so should i expect similar with the spiders?

It's really splendid over there Hokkaido,it's the PARADISE!!!!There is full places great cute in this ilsand like Hakodate,Akan National Park,Daisetsu-zan National Park,the lakes also,Sapporo and also the snow and most particullary the winter with the snow!!!!

Oh my goodness, how it is so parallel with North America in natural beauty. I didn't think an isolated Northeast Asian land would have those sorts of species such as deer with antlers and a eagle looking bird. It's a pretty place. If you want to spend a year, English teaching might be just that reality as Asian countries are doing 1 year English teaching contracts often only requiring a bachelors degree in anything. I've done 2 years in Korea and looking to do something different like this.

I think Hokkaid is one of the most beautiful places on earth, some places are beautiful some times of the year but Hokkaido is beautiful all year round. I would love to live there for 1 year with my camera equipment, you could take thousands of fantastic images in Hokkaido.
