Such a contemplative song. The harmonies in this piece may reflect James's clouded and confused mind of what he sees is real and what is not, both on the inside and the outside.
Hey Everybody! I have just released my new album "Unhinged" which is very inspired by my all time favorite musician Akira Yamaoka and his game soundtrack work. You can stream or download the whole album for free on my youtube channel!
Imo best song on the soundtrack. The drums have a delay effect that you hear a lot in reggae and dub music, which for me was just icing on the cake for such a great song.
It's moments like these why you're playing Silent Hill...it isn't about rushing feverishly towards a single goal in a strict time limit(like most games in general, regardless of being new or old) but to take the time you're given to observe the mysterious world around you. Take it in. It's built that way. Countless interpretations exist on the internet solely because of it.
Most.Favorite.Song.On.The.Soundtrack.Period. i used to load up Lauras story on my xbox, let the intro play, and let this song just loop for hours and hours. righteous times....
@Finozzi96 Actually, we are still unsure as to whether the HD Collection will contain the original voice track, despite Cihi's efforts to get all the actors to sign the waiver giving Konami all rights to their perfomance, we can't guarantee it'll happen. I don't recall Konami officially stating the original voice acting being retained in this edition, and all we can do is hope Cihi's efforts weren't in vain.
@xShinigamiRyukuux "In late September, Guy Cihi (James), David Schaufele (Eddie), Monica Taylor Horgan (Maria) and Donna Burke (Angela, Claudia) signed their rights to Konami to re-use their voices in Collection. " - Silent Hill Wiki
@Finozzi96 My point was that despite having the RIGHTS to use the original voice cast, there's no guaranteeing they will, especially if the collection is already in post-production phase. Not all the voice actors waived their rights to Konami, either. They feared getting sued, particularly by Guy Cihi, that doesn't mean others can't. The Wiki (note that I use it at times myself, in spite of the following.) can be flawed at times. We should consider ourselves lucky if the original VA DOES get by.
@xShinigamiRyukuux It would make absolutely no sense at all for them not to reuse the original voice actors and would most likely anger a lot of silent hill fans if they were replaced, so to me it's a no brainer
@holyfajitas Well, you're in luck. Hullett confirmed that SH2 will retain the original voice track as an option, along with the new track as default. However, I wouldn't have been surprised if nothing was made of it, as Konami, today, is known for not making the best decisions with the series. SH3, on the other hand, unless Heather Morris could be located, will not retain its original voice work.
How is it that this particular SH soundtrack has amped my emotions and out-view on life in general through a few simple chords and beats? Gotta love Akira.
The whole soundtrack is eerily beautiful. It's so chill, yet so mystical sounding. It's easy to get lost in the fog of Silent Hill while playing this game and listening to the music. It's entrancing.
I will tell you something folks . . . I once played this game before kinda 4 years ago in the age of 13 and in the beginning when you arrive in town and you see blood scattered around and after that when you enter the hotel and solve some riddles . . . all of that made me fear the game so i quited. Now in the age of 17 i appreciate everything about the game despite the fact I didn't continue the storyline.
A few years ago two parents went out for dinner. A few hours later, the babysitter was calling to see if she could cover up the clown statue in the kids' room, the father said "Get the kids and get out of the house, we'll call the police we don't have a clown statue". The "clown statue" was actually a killer that escaped from jail. If you don't post this on 10 videos tonight the clown will be in your bed at 3:00am with a chainsaw in his hand. Sorry don't want this to happen to me
That music video by Pogo, Mary's magic reminds me of this. It's like he was trying to emulate the feeling of Silent Hill. The remix he did of sword in the stone is good as well.
is there any artist who make this kind of music? i would love hearin an album with 20 songs and each one lasts for at least 8mins... this is is just..no words omg....<3

@jommeez as soon as I get off work, I'm downloading this song and putting into my "drive at night" playlist =]
Also a good one to drive at night (specifically with fog) look up "Zakk Wylde: Sold my soul" the middle of the song and the guitar solo reminded me of the epilogue of the silent hill 2 opening. first thing you do, listen to it with the sh2 epilogue, and second; play this song at night with fog and imagine you're going to silent hill! Trust me, you will think you're in the game itself!
I find that I love SH2 the most because of the music and the characters.
For example:
I like James because he may not be the smartest, but he's the bravest. And he always does everything he can throughout the game just to find the person he cares most about. It takes a lot of nerve to go to Silent Hill. If I ever even come across a sign on the road that says, "Silent Hill up ahead", I'm turning my car around.
Temporary Heaven is more emotional then Heavens Night. It reminds me more of Promise out of Akiras songs then anything. But David Scott is still a pretty good artist and that album Repeating Yesterday is amazing. That and Silent Hill 2 Soundtrack are probably the two best atmospheric albums ever written.
@Loopen22 Silent Hill 1 2 and 3 were good. SH2 was my favorite. Silent Hill 4 was ok, not too bad but at the same time not all that great. you're not in silent hill you're in dudes room and traveling back and forth between the room and different areas. But SH4 was definitely better than Silent Hill Shattered Memories. That little wannabe remake of the first SH wasn't all that it was cracked up to be. The whole thing was like you were a detective searching for a kidnapped child

To hell with all you Homecoming haterz... that was the title that got me into Silent Hill... I went back and played the other games afterwards and I gotta say, the combat system was broken on every Silent Hill title before SH5. I'll still give props to SH2 for the most epic storyline of the series, but seriously? Homecoming was better then Silent Hill 4 BY FAR. At least Homecoming had a twist at the end unlike The Room. I honestly did not see it coming. Can't wait for Silent Hill 8!
@yrulaughing Noooo you got it wrong. No other combat system WORKED right with the other ones. They weren't shitting, they were the best for the type of game.
Gorgeous sound design. SH2 & its soundtrack has been a part of my life for years and leaves me astounded every single time. Anyone who knows how on earth Akira constructed these sounds (or the pad sounds for the likes of Pianissimo Eplilogue, The Day of Night or White Noiz... I COULD GO ON!) feel free to contact me/reply for an entralling music-tech related conversation. Probably the deepest game music I ever heard. P.S. sorry if you read this comment on other tracks.
i just bought this for 360 (the origonal xbox version restless dreams) and i cant wait to play it again!!!some of the best music in a video game and its by far the best survival horror game.
please dont say how could anyone forget becouse almost 400million people dont know what the fuck jacobs ladder is or what silent hill is ...just couse you and some pals know dosnt meen every goddamn person dose!
@bubblygoo123 400 million people eh? When I said how could anyone forget, I was referring to fans of the Silent Hill franchise. If someone has never heard of Silent Hill, they obviously would not know that Jacob's Ladder was an influence.
I kept hearing about this Jacob Ladder movie and its comparison to the Silent Hill games. I decided to watch the film because of those people. In it there are hallucinations that buddy has where some peoples heads jerk around and shake violently but their bodies are still. That is what was incorporated into the game in comparison. That and other small things that were related to the film. The movie wasn't really that great but it did have a creepy edge to it that tripped me out.
Trapped in a surreal nightmare formed of your own neuroses. Nothing feels right, but nothing feels wrong. The comforting, warm hands of a woman cradle your face, beckoning ever-closer into the mire of your subconscious. The silent world lies still, but your conscience is ever-drifting. This is what this song makes me feel. It's my ringtone :)
It was one of the most important influences to the original game, yes. However, a lot of nice tributes to other classical horror movies can be seen in the game too. The fyling pterodactyl like creatures and the thick mist in Silent Hill were influenced by Stephen King's novel "The Mist"(1980), which much later became a movie (2008). There's a bit of "Rosemary's Baby" in the story too.
@bubblygoo123 How could anyone forget? The creators cite Jacob's Ladder as a huge influence on the Silent Hill games. There is even a Bergen Street subway station in SH3 that is a reference to Jacob's Ladder.
A man has only one escape from his self; to see a different self in the mirror of some woman's eyes. she than smiles..that strange serene smile:) as your reflection dances in her eyes..
I always say people trying to talk about game design without having either played this or Deus Ex are like people talking about 20th century music without having heard the Beatles.
If you guys like Akira you should search an instrumental artist called David Scott. Preferably an album called Repeating Yesterday by him. There are a lot of songs that sound extreamly Silent Hillish. Just check it out if your bored. I love it because it reminds me of Silent Hill. Seach some of his tracks like Numb Sensation, Temporary Heaven, Mist Field, Always Loving You and just google the darn album to find the rest of the tracks. lol
@dem0nhamm3r I don't think it's try hard comments. I think people are just sharing their thoughts and feelings about this kind of thought provoking track. Many of Akira Yamoaka's tracks do that
When I hear this song, I imagine myself in a ritzy club that's on top of a really high tower in a busy city at night, with huge windows that go around the whole club... And staring out the window into the city, so many lights, faint sounds of the streets...
I dunno why you'd imagine a ritzy club since it was kind of a scum hole. This song reminds me of James's inner conflictions w/ himself. More specifically, lust and temptation (both sexual and w/ alcohol if you read how he responds to the empty liquor bottles).

Before the occurrence of Science, primitive man (and even some of modern humans today) used to interpret, for example, shadows and ambiguous movements i from the corner of our eye in the dark of the night, or figures unexplained by firsthand human experience are interpreted as supernatural DEMONS, or creatures of the night...without any further evidence whatsoever....the human mind can be led astray without the use of logical reasoning...
And Supernatural beings such as God and angels are manifestations of our ability to imagine disembodied minds cognitively, an important human characteristic that the concept of Religion hijacks everyday. An example of this would be, if a person tries to remember past conversations with dead relatives, and simulating it as if its occurring at the present moment...this might be due to emotional attachment to the reminisced person...etc...notice that this is one step removed from imagining God.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
But we are the imaginations of ourselves, there are no absolute truths...if there, i dont know them...for the fact that these realities, and trivial truths that we hold dear, are relative upon which culture or person believes and uses them....respect ,for example, means, and is done differently in iran and saudi arabia, as compared to the US....And also, we are the only beings with the BRAIN CAPACITY to able to identify, correlate, and name things around us...as far as i know.
This music was also on Inner Fears where you play as Maria. Starts off in Heaven's Night and she ends up in that weird Baldwin mansion talking to a ghost. It was on the Xbox version
Makes you wonder if life is worth it....if ANYTHING is worth it...what do we live for? what do we fight for? what do we die for? Why? "Why" <--- the ultimate question. Why.
Self satisfaction, self fulfillment. If you didn't have a wanting drive, something you looked forward to or hope to have, see or achieve you wouldn't do anything. That's what life is, living to gain what you want and trying to get it. Some people seek material others want to be remembered as an individual but mainly it's the same drive... don't you agree?
Oh I most definitely agree with you, but it's the after life I'm worried about. Alot of people center their life around their religion but it's hard to believe in a being you've never seen. Trying to satisfy a being you don't even know is real. Committing a sin, then repenting. To go where? A place that might not even be truly there? What happens then? You tried your hardest to please "God" to only find out there is no such thing. But then again...I could be dead wrong...
Personally I believe in God, but I figured God wouldn't be a fair if he only let people who believed in him a certain way in, there are BILLIONS who will never hear is name and get the chance to worship him like some people think he should be worshiped and if God was like that, heh heh he's pretty fucked up. I think it comes down to who you are, doesn't matter if you believe, if you're good then you get in.
Im gonna sample this song and make a lex luger type beat. Gonna go HAM!

I COULD GO ON!) feel free to contact me/reply for an entralling music-tech related conversation. Probably the deepest game music I ever heard. P.S. sorry if you read this comment on other tracks.

This song screams Maria. Slinky sensual and yet has something behind it that just sounds off and slightly spooky.

It was so awesome in Silent Hill 3 when you could go back to this place.

please dont say how could anyone forget becouse almost 400million people dont know what the fuck jacobs ladder is or what silent hill is ...just couse you and some pals know dosnt meen every goddamn person dose!
bubblygoo123 1 year ago
@bubblygoo123 400 million people eh? When I said how could anyone forget, I was referring to fans of the Silent Hill franchise. If someone has never heard of Silent Hill, they obviously would not know that Jacob's Ladder was an influence.
cbrooks83 1 year ago
@bubblygoo123

It's my ringtone :)

bubblygoo123 1 year ago
@bubblygoo123
McLarenMercedes 1 year ago
@bubblygoo123 How could anyone forget? The creators cite Jacob's Ladder as a huge influence on the Silent Hill games. There is even a Bergen Street subway station in SH3 that is a reference to Jacob's Ladder.

Seach some of his tracks like Numb Sensation, Temporary Heaven, Mist Field, Always Loving You and just google the darn album to find the rest of the tracks. lol

My favorite track. Kind of calms down the horror
for a short time.
dem0nhamm3r 2 years ago 34
@dem0nhamm3r I don't think it's try hard comments. I think people are just sharing their thoughts and feelings about this kind of thought provoking track. Many of Akira Yamoaka's tracks do that

@Mrhashslinginslasher Yeah that is true.

When I hear this song, I imagine myself in a ritzy club that's on top of a really high tower in a busy city at night, with huge windows that go around the whole club... And staring out the window into the city, so many lights, faint sounds of the streets...

@takeyb0y2 Such a nice mood !
20abox 2 years ago

Makes you wonder if life is worth it....if ANYTHING is worth it...what do we live for? what do we fight for? what do we die for? Why? "Why" <--- the ultimate question. Why.
pyromanx6 2 years ago 3
Self satisfaction, self fulfillment. If you didn't have a wanting drive, something you looked forward to or hope to have, see or achieve you wouldn't do anything. That's what life is, living to gain what you want and trying to get it. Some people seek material others want to be remembered as an individual but mainly it's the same drive... don't you agree?
korean342 2 years ago 7
Oh I most definitely agree with you, but it's the after life I'm worried about. Alot of people center their life around their religion but it's hard to believe in a being you've never seen. Trying to satisfy a being you don't even know is real. Committing a sin, then repenting. To go where? A place that might not even be truly there? What happens then? You tried your hardest to please "God" to only find out there is no such thing. But then again...I could be dead wrong...
pyromanx6 2 years ago
Personally I believe in God, but I figured God wouldn't be a fair if he only let people who believed in him a certain way in, there are BILLIONS who will never hear is name and get the chance to worship him like some people think he should be worshiped and if God was like that, heh heh he's pretty fucked up. I think it comes down to who you are, doesn't matter if you believe, if you're good then you get in.
