  • I just realized something.

The cover in the first episode of Spongebob came from this song!

  • RIP TINY TIM

    I liked his version better

  • @115shadowfan Pretty much any song you can think of was taken from it's original from the early 20th century.

  • Very nice rendition of a teriffic song made famous by Maurice Chevalier in the film "The Big Pond"!!!!! I love it! I'm sure Mr. Cevalier, as well as Mr. Tiny Tim, are looking down on this great band everytime they play this song and all they do is smile.

  • Ah I love music no matter what year it took place. Personally I love music from the 30s and 50s I think those were the golden age of music. I like music from our generation of course, but this is just a simple song with a wonderful band

  • Excellent, good costumes too. I love the Westie!

  • either TINY TIM or this thier both good in my book and I wouldn't wan't anything more.

  • 1:58 - "I don't give a hooze in my cares de move..."?

  • @78Upm and ...?....

  • @bhsisthebest I think it should be "I don't give a hoot, give my cares the boot..." rather than "give a hooze in my cares the move". And what is this supposed to mean anyway?

  • @78Upm I don't give a hoot, give my cares the boot.

  • Respond to this video... That's how it's written on the sheet music I have but it could differ in whoever's version it happens to be.

  • I don't give a hoot, give my cares the boot. Those are the lyrics

  • @ajmendham That's not what he's singing though... Apparently he's not as British as he wants to be after all.

  • @78Upm I don't think Mr de Winter has ever displayed a "wish" to be British. I tend to look upon him as more akin to a '20s Weimar performer. Although he has recorded some English-language standards, most of his output has been in his native German. For example: watch?v=ddRr6Ey9r58&feature=related. I think we can forgive him the odd slip-up; his kind are so rare these days and should be encouraged, the world needs more like him.

  • Made my day

  • Wow...if I didn't know any better [and the sound quality wasn't so much better] I'd think this was an old recording.

Nice job! I'd love to see you live.

  • @poetheed1 ** Said Sarcastically** Arigatou~! ^_^

  • All I can think of is Spongebob....

    That's awesome :'D

  • this is truly great tribute to the song and the decades that brought song like this for us to hear and appreciate no matter the generation.

  • More bands should have dogs.

  • Aw, I wish that I could play like those trumpet players =_= And the Westie is so kawaii just sitting there! :3

  • Lol, I feel like Jay Gatsby when I listen to this.

  • I like this song.

    I like this video.

    I like you.

  • Wonderful rendition of a classic. Bravo! Thumbs up!

  • 7 people are not having a wonderful time

  • Including you BlueFlameDude?

  • @BlueFlameDude They must be deaf!!

  • This makes me happy. <3

  • That song brought me back to the 1920's, such a great recreation job you guys do! I wish I could see you live one day :)

  • Thank you very much, mojoman4147, check our website for upcoming concerts, or at least our other videos :-)

  • what a well-behaved little dog

  • What a great re-creation of this song.It was like stepping back into the early 1930s

  • @Bigband78

Thank you very much! Check also marckodrom.free.fr/marckolswing/Videos/2010-BHS.html

  • Sounds exactly like the Ben Bernie version on Brunswick

  • You are right, @rudiherold84. The arrangement was transcribed note by note from that record.

  • This is phenomenal. Is there any way I can obtain a copy of this song? Is it on an album I can pick up in the US?

  • Dear @sifka4, this is an unreleased version. We are still planning to record more songs with Henry de Winter to have enough to produce the cd. Cross your fingers :-)

  • @bhsisthebest Oh, hopefully i will notice when it is ready, too :). Thanks again for doing such a real great job.

  • Great, fantastic! :-)

  • Thank you very much, indeed, @TheFarrierphil !

  • The trumpet solo at 2.37 reminds me a lot of of Sylvester Ahola, playing in the style of Beiderbecke, with Ambrose and his Orchestra in London between about the time this song was current.

  • @tavriadriver Thank you, that was a big compliment, I appreciate it a lot.

  • Perfect in every single detail!

  • Think we might have to see if we can book you to come here!

  • At any time and with pleasure :-)

  • When are you next in the UK? You're brilliant!!

  • Thank you very much for your feedback. Thanks to Mike Durham we played three times at Whitley Bay Jazz Festival, but we were not lucky to manage any other places. We have some options for next year, cross your fingers and please check our web site regularly. Thanks again!

  • Terrific. The fingering by one of the trumpeters reminds me of Wild Bill Davison

  • Now this is what I call music

  • Wonderful music! Would love to see and hear you preform.

  • This kind of music speaks for itself.....wonderful!!! Corny and cute, but timeless.

  • Excellent!

  • I was shocked when they started playing but it's when the singer came in and sang that got my crying! I love this music and never thought anyone from this era could get it close to the real thing. God bless you all!!

  • Excellent, 5 stars!

  • Thank you lindyhoppers! You should come to Bratislava, when played live, sounds even better :-) Check our web site serenaders.sk

  • Excellent version! Really enjoyed that.

    :)

  • AMAZING! Do you travel to the Unites States for private concerts?

  • Thank you, we have never been to the USA, we would like to get there...

  • Thank you for your comment very much! The trumpet player is Juraj Bartos. He is bandleader and arranger of this version, too. He plays classical solo as well as some modern jazz, too. I will post his web site when it is finished...

  • Brilliant! I have always loved this happy tune and your version is a Delight!! Who is the great trumpet player? He has a big strong tone and sounds like Bix. He makes your band sparkle.

  • The dog listening to the band is the perfect touch to the video! aka...RCA's mascot listening to the gramophone on their records.

  • MOST ENJOYABLE!!!

  • Great re-enactment of the Bernie Cumins Orchestra tune.

  • Spectacular!

  • Great number. It brings that 1920's atmosphere right into my living room. Swingin' livin' old times. As if todays society would not exist anymore. Great ! I love it.

  • Absolutely marvelous!

  • Awesome!

  • 5***** X 5*****!

  • 10 :-) x 10 :-)

  • what year is this anybody know?

  • Original version, from which was this arrangement transcribed is (as you can see in Info above) from Ben Bernie and Hotel Roosevelt Orch. in LA, May 15, 1930. This video was made in 1998 (again - as you can see in Info above). Enjoy.

  • Very classy, spot on rhythm, nicely understated, beautifuly swingy, great.

  • This is one hot band!

  • how tender... well, I dont think so.

  • Great musicians, and singing, too. My favorite thing is all the instrumental work. :)

  • He's so pimp with that monocle.

  • LOL!

  • Indubitably ol'chap!

  • @mogar11 VERY dapper!

I wonder if there is a Lady De Winter?

  • fantastic:-)...

  • I just can't stay away from this song! I love all you stuff, but this seems as fun for you as it is for me! (or maybe more!)

    Really nice trumpet work especially!

    Thanks for sharing--

    "Ukulele Katie"

  • This is sexy.

  • This one of the best songs i'd heared in my life

  • I happened to stumble on this video at midnight last week, and I can't stop listening. Thank you for this, you guys have another fan.

  • I like just about anything the BHS does, but what I really love is when they camp it up with Henry de Winter. He is a hoot and seems a perfect fit with this crowd. More of BHS and more Henry de Winter.

  • We would do with pleasure, hopefully the time when we will play with Henry de Winter will come again, soon....

  • omg westie alert! x3

    i have 2

  • Anything that reminds anyone of Jeeves & Wooster must be good. :)

  • He starts singing at 1:22 YAYYYY so wonderful.

  • i agree

  • I love it :)

  • Outstanding version. Bravo!

  • This band is fantastic!!!!!! Great sycopation and very tight!!!!!!

  • This song is almost as good as Tiny Tim's.

  • This version is better than Tinyy Tim's you mean mate. He was a prat, this is brilliant and authentic.

  • Tiny Tim is a sexy man though.

  • I agree Tiny Tim's wasn't nearly as good he sucks compared to this masterpiece.

  • I just wanted to be sure I wasn't hearing things. Didn't mean to upset anybody.. :p

  • To be correct, it was sousaphone :-) But because of the overall mood and bouncing dancy rhythm in the recording we decided to not edit it. That's why...

  • Is it just me, or does it sound like the tuba has a little having the note come out at 0:37?

  • You're right, it's the tuba... And that's life...

  • Where do I know this song? Family guy? Fallout 3?

  • The piolt of Sponge Bod Squarepants Tim til sang it when he started cooking krabbie patties

  • Its not there, cos I dont watch that show..

  • the song is great!

  • i like my oncel´s music

  • I really like this song... piece of art it is.

  • Thank you very much, indeed. Check our other videos, if you like our band, we appreciate any comments. Sincerely yours BHS.

  • WONDERFUL job, so true to the feeling and style of the original time. Really great solo work with the trumpet and vocal, as well. You guys ROCK!!!!

    Ukulele Katie

  • damn amazin :D love it ^_^

  • Haha this song is in Spongebob (like before comment) in the anchovies episode.

  • haha this was played on Spongebob. XD

This version is better though. Hah.

  • lol, i like the random dog

  • Hi, this was done on modern equipment and then post-produced. It was even taken on video, not movie, since the whole budget was for two videos around $ 5000... 3 cameras, Jimmy-Jib and post production. That is all.

  • This has become my theme song! Great performance. Was this shot in video and then made to look old in post-production or was it filmed on vintage equipment?

  • Thats the cool part, its vintage

  • this looks vintage, but I'm not so sure...

  • oh wait no its not, but still its cool

  • Great, Great, Great !

I only know this song singing by Maurice Chevalier !

    Thanks Ulilein, for sharing !

  • Yesss, they are really great!

    You`re very welcome, Daniel!

  • great

  • This is simply amazing!

  • Nice

  • doll 1:52

  • Ok, thanks to both of you :)

  • awesome

  • Oh wow, never knew Tiny Tim covered it. Awesome.

  • Because he (Pius) was on the stage always when Henry sang. Always. Sitting or just sleeping under the mic. He was always behind Henry. Just like a dog who loves his master. That's why.

  • Why is a dog sitting on the stage xD ?

  • He's a Henry de Winter groupie.

  • By the way.. Have they released any cd's of this band?

  • Hello, BHS have released 6 cd's and one dvd up to now. Check the website.

  • umm sorry but tiny tims version sounds better

  • To jjpresnell, He's not gay. He's just really happy all the time. In fact he got married to a woman.

  • I must say i disagree.

  • When i said "I must say i disagree. " I meant i disagree with those who say he's gay.

  • An authentic dance band sound.

  • i agree. That is EXTREMELY rare for modern age.

    Thanks!

  • Well, i´m absolutely amazed of this original 20th/30th sound, i will try to get the cds...

Oh, and thank you for uploading!!

    Best regards,

    CMarkulis

  • Man I'd love an MP3 of this to put on my MP3 player and boogie to. It's such wonderful music and I absolutely love his singing.

  • why dont you!?

  • "I don't give a hoot give my cares a boot."

Difficult to discern if you are learning it phonetically.

This is a very authentic-sounding group. Very nice.

  • so....

Tiny Tim got his song from this???

  • Actually from a 1930's movie called "

    The Big Pond"...

  • These guys are amazing. Even the video and hairstyles are just perfect. Plus...I really love this song.

  • lol.. ya

  • lol that conductor dude is awesome... look at his specticle thinggie

  • a monocle? :D

  • isn't this the song from some spongebob episode

  • Yeah, the Tiny Tim version is the one from the Spongebob Episode.

  • Wow! I think his voice is pretty good! another good version!

  • itd be hilarious to hear my conductor sing!

  • Id love to play this in my band!!

  • bhsisthebest, don't you mean Bernie Cummins rather than Ben Bernie?

  • I don't have the original shellack record, but this recordig comes from Pavel Klikar, leader of great Original Prague Syncopated Orchestra. I believe that when he said it was Ben Bernie, I can be 99% sure. I transcribed the arr. from that (tape) recording and checked in Brian Rust's American Dance Bands, if Ben Bernie recorded the song. He did as described in Info. Greetings.

  • Does anybody know the chord progression the Tricone player is using? If so. I'd really appreciate it!

  • Once again. I'm brought back to the Jazz Generation. Ah......I love this.

  • this is good and so is tiny tims version, stop arguing, they both are good.

  • This is one Hot Orchestra. Saw them at the Whitley Bay Jazz festival a couple of years ago. Crooners and Flappers but alas no dog Brilliant! Nice video Thanks

  • The golden age :(

  • Whats with the dog!?

  • The dog is an authentic period piece prop. Dogs were used to liven and loosen up the audience, so that they'd be in the mood to dance.

Today, you only hear the musical portion of a band's performance, but in the Roaring '20s, the band was more like a show.

The band leader would introduce the musicians and they would tell a few jokes. It added interest because you got to know them a little before they played.

Between sets, they'd go from table to table and socialize.

  • I totally agree =D

  • who is the singer? Awesome!!!

  • Tiny Tim

  • This singing has NOTHING to do with Tiny Tim, sorry. The singer is Henry de Winter.

  • I mean the real singer...

  • The real singer was originally Maurice Chevalier, on the recording from which I did the arrangement you are listening to was the real singer Ben Bernie. Tiny Tim has nothing to do with this. Talking about real singers...

  • im just as free as any dom? whats he say in that part, please? thanks!

  • "I'm just as free as any dove."

  • thank you! now that youve told me, it seems so obvious. thanks.

  • alto sax guy on right looks like my uncle
