@ThaMahstah The march is a new one called 'Provectus ut vir' (Advance as heroes) and was written by WO2 Greg Machin, who is Bandmaster of the Band of the Coldstream Guards. It won The Major General's competition for a new march and was therefore played on Trooping the Colour in 2010 as the March Off.
Hi Terry Troopingadmin its Retrofan here again I now have all the Music used to March back to the Palace what do you think of the BBC showing the Trooping live on the Red Button Continuously without Hugh Edwards nagging Commentary I think this should have been used in the past but was only Put into use this year
@retrofan1 If only I had known about the red button this year too. The BBC's presentation is now like watching the six o'clock news with constant interviews and interruptions, the whole of the troop in quick time was not shown. Who wants to see Hugh Edwards parading himself down a line of troops or Clare Balding talking to a horse ? We know we have to pay their huge salaries but why can't they keep their huge mouths shut so we can enjoy the parade.
@pethayoo1 I agree. The red button should be the one which has the inane commentary. I 'Sky+d' the parade but, unfortunately, it's the 'normal version' with Hugh Edwards et al talking a load of rubbish over the marches.
hi troopingadmin Its Retrofan1 Here can you now tell me all the Marches used to March down the Mail back to Buckingham Palace I think this march is a nice new March Called advance as Heroes but what were the other Marches Played
I was in London that day and came across the rehearsal by chance. It was fantastic - no matter how many times I've seen it on tv, seeing the rehearsal in real life was so much better. I was absolutely bowled over :)
Can anyone offer a definition of the Drum Major's signal at 1:27 and 2:20 holding the
mace horizontally to his right and then to his left ? Can't find it in my Drummer's Handbook. Please add my compliments on Greg Machin's Provectus ut Vir. Can't get the
@meadowlands1937 It is for the command to mark time and then forward march. It may have more meaning but that is what I have caught from these and from past bands.
@sgoudie Following the rehearsal, one band, in this case the Band of the Scots Guards, march off the rehearsal parade ground in the other direction via The Mall to Buckingham Palace to change the guard, followed by The Escort to The Colour. The rehearsal is known as a "Guard Mount from Horse Guards" for this reason.
@troopingadmin Do you know which date this will takes place this year Terry? Would be very keen to go down to see it?! Assuming you will be there too to video?!
@Ed4RMAS Ed, In 2011 there are at least 3 Foot Guards' Rehearsals (called 'Guard Mount from Horse Guards Parade'). They start around 9.45am on Tues 17th, Thurs 19th and Mon 23rd. I will only be at 23rd. I think that there may also be a mounted rehearsal on Wed 25th. Also Tue 24th there is a State Visit from USA at Buckingham Palace but I think that security may mean that the view will be restricted.
The name of the marches from Horse Guards to Buckingham Palace will be as follows: PROVECTUS UT VIR - THE PEACEMAKER (Lotter) - GALANTHIA (Corps of Drums - Turpin) - GENERAL MITCHELL (Hall) - WASHINGTON GRAYS (Grafulla) and THE LIBERATORS (Ancliffe) and this is of course the same set of marches that is played here during the Rehearsal.
Greetings from the USA. No one can best the British when it comes to military ceremony and music. I found it intersting to watch the drum majors signal commands at 2:09 and 2:13 and the bass drum really getting in to it to place the band in mark time and then for resuming the quick march. Super video and GREAT march music.
This is indeed a very STIRRING march, and I am particularly looking forward to hearing it live out there on that grand and dramatic Parade ground of Horse Guards. Congratulations Greg Machin for writing this vibrant march.
The dispersal of the troops, as shown here, was about the only snag in an otherwise pretty good rehearsal. The left/right forms at the halt were a bit dodge too. Other than that though very impressive!!!
4.32...now, how did THAT happend? ...

Wow, nice march! I can see why it won that competition.
Anyway, can't wait to see this for myself! Hopefully that ash won't disrupt my flight!
Also, nice to see that the band can adapt to sudden changes.

@emptyangel ...and naturally you're flying SA not BA?
Have you managed to swindle yourself some tickets for the troop (or one of) or are you watching from the sidelines, or indeed both?
