Again, to those of you who just cannot comprehend my statements, my point is that a degree is not required for somebody to be educated enough to comment on any particular subject! The Tesla reference was made to illustrate that point. Still don't get it? OK... Tesla= no degree= huge brain= major scientific advancements. Your argument suggests, by comparison, that Tesla had no business (or was NOT QUALIFIED) to study/invent/create etc. You lose this argument... I'm done.

This guy is an absolute idiot!!! So, a degree qualifies you to make commentary on issues of politics & make opinions on the state of our country? I'm sure that was in the constitution somewhere. Keep in mind, it is the "educated" people who have fucked up this country in the first place. You do realize that most of these "educated" people in Washington have never held jobs or positions in the private sector, do you? "Education" is overrated. Any moron can get through college.

A degree may better qualify someone to make commentary on politics if they have, say, a political science degree or political philosophy degree! I do not understand your point concerning education. The US is falling rapidly behind in educating our youth. I'd like to see the average "moron" get through college for engineering at Chicago, or UofWisconsin, or MIT, so when they graduate, said moron can make 80k starting salary. We ought to push education as an investment against the debt I feel.

I never said anything like MIT, etc. I see students "get by" college every year & wind up in jobs that don't even pertain to their degree.  I am merely pointing out the fact that a degree is NOT a prerequisite to commentary on the state of the union! I absolutely agree with your last statement, though trying to get parents to care enough to push their children in the right direction is a different story all together.

I was in optics for years, without a degree, and possessed knowledge way beyond what the freshly minted college graduates had both in theory & practice. I am just saying that a degree is not the be-all-end-all when it comes to knowledge & the ability to share opinions on any subject. By the way, the Austrian Polytechnic in Graz claims that Nikola Tesla NEVER received a degree. I guess Tesla wasn't qualified to advance electromechanical engineering.
