This is an incredible organ. I wonder how long it took to make somthing like this. One Tiny floor in the organ tho... The drummer Can only play a few at a time. But still its a pretty incredible organ
the sax player really needs to play out I cannot hear him at all...lol all i am hearing is the accordian or a really messed up sax sound.... I play the alto, and i dont hear it one bit
The Sax sound comes from a Hammond electric organ that is behind the curtain. The organ speakers are on each side of the robots. Everything is controlled by the book music seen early in the video.
@ampicoab I thought all Decap Robot Bands were MIDI-operated? Unless of course this is an early model that was built before MIDI came along. How is the Hammond organ controlled in the book?
The fingers ARE moving, you just aren't looking closely enough. After all, the sax player (and his instrument) is for show anyway, the sound is produced by the electronic organ as per the comment above. Do you realize how incredibly difficult it is to automate a reed instrument? I don't think anyone has done it except maybe for this Japanese laboratory which recently claimed they made one (like, in the past 5 years). Certainly not 40-50 years ago when this robot band was made.
@Dojora4 Indeed it is, and before it 'went across the pond' this organ was in the now-closed Ashorne Hall mechanical music collection here in England.
I think you will be blown away by all the great music on these 60 to 120 year old mechanical music machines. MOST PERSONS DO NOT KNOW THEY EVER EXISTED!

MBSI is an international non-profit society of several thousand members dedicated to the enjoyment, education, and preservation of mechanical music machines. Most of them were made before radios, jukeboxes, and record players were invented. Some will fit in your hand, while many others such as Orchestrions and Fairground Organs may be over 20' wide x 8' deep x 12' tall, or even larger.
My husband & I joined MBSI. We have found it to be a great experience. I really enjoy the music while my husband likes the mechanical functioning of the machines just as much as the music. While the technology is more than a 100 years old, they operate similar to a computer, using air instead of electricity. The machines that play several violins together are really intriguing to us.
That is a good question. Actually, the video was made by piecing many shots together and the audio came from the CD recording of the DeCap. The software used made the task awkward. A much better job was accomplished on the succeeding video, "Jackson played by Robot Band" New software was used on the "Jeux d'eau played by Benno Moiseiwitsch" and the sync is perfect.

why do they call this organ '105 key' when it has less keys and has to operate a ton of instruments?
