  • What an awesome experience. Thanks for taking us with you, showing us the operations onboard the Nimitz, Sir!

  • Is it just me or did Battles 111 bolter twice in a row?

  • I am impressed.

  • Thanks for the video, very interesting. I see Hornets and Super Hornets. I thought carriers have only one type of F-18

  • badass

  • Thanks to this video, I have made my decision. I am definately going to join the navy.

  • Who in the world would dislike this video?

  • 4:10 Smoothest carrier landing I have ever seen.

  • yeah supersonic paint @artman479

  • like watching paint dry............

  • i love how loud it is when you hear them at full throttle on the landing, and then suddenly it gets quiet :)

  • well flying and being aircrew in the jet is much different than being the crew on the deck, in the jet the only part that sucks is the time on deck waiting for the cat shot before you can turn the A/C on. once you do it let me know what you think about it then.

  • The reason they stop so suddenly is due the 'hook' you can see at 1:20 , this pulls the aircraft back allowing it to stop almost immediatly. The pilot needs to aim for the hook and land on the carrier at a precise angle so the hook is able to cling onto the aircraft. If the pilot should miss the hook, he would have to use the momentum of the aircraft to carry along the runway and hopefully take-off immeditaly to attempt another landing.

  • I thought all aircraft were armed when they took off

  • off the beaten track

  • I wonder how it feels for the pilot to stop so suddenly after going so fast.

  • This is amazing. The speed the f-18s travel at to land and then how sudden they stop! What an experience for the pilot.

  • I think you mean "Recoveries" (traps) :-)

  • this is the ship my grandpa retired off of :) hope i can to unless its retired idk

  • Where are those escort ships? Any signs of CVBG at all?

  • Best footage of carrier landings I've ever seen.

  • @eaglestudios829 you sure? Best ive seen is from the Carrier Documentary

  • Pause it at 1:20 it looks so cool when the plane traps

  • The audio is out of sync.

  • @Siren1000T1 You're right. You weren't the first that noticed though... :D

  • Oh wow! a captain catapult officer

  • Anyone else notice that most of the pilots aren't giving full power after the landing?

  • @squirlybmx The pilot goes into afterburner (or full power for those without) just prior to touch down, to ensure they have enough power to get airborne again in the case of a bolter (missed wire).

  • @msparks15 I am aware of that. If I am not mistaken the F/A-18 uses GE F404 engines, which has afterburner capabilities, correct? I only noticed a few of the planes actually kick in to the after burner and when you listen, the engine note rapidly decreases upon landing with most of the planes. It sounds like they are decreases throttle after immediately after the plane begins to slow down.

  • did 111 bolter twice?

  • Verry Niceee

  • Wow, for the speed they come in at they seem to stop very fast. I'd hate how the pilot's stomach must have felt.

  • no.room.for.error.

  • im going to be in that ship piloting one of those superhornet one of these days

  • Quite impressive, but can they land it with the power glove?

  • what if a plane catches two wires at the same time?

  • @MrSnobby24 ... it will never happen because of the landing gear design...

  • Those aircraft carriers are huge, its like a City,i wonder if how many troops & aircraft could it carry,do they carry marines their too?sorry for my english its my secondary language hope youll understand.

  • @pwrbytrd On average they carry about 5,000~ people. Some deployments and most will have about 1~ Marine squadron.

  • LOL 2:23 XD well nobody is perfect ... but the pilotos are the most similar to that :)

  • amazing

  • Wie schnell die bremsen.ist schon einer in wasser gerollt?

  • Great video. However, more incredible is if you could append this video with all the cool information and tid bits tied to sections in the video. Check out meboxmedia [dot] com and go to samples.

This content is made for Me!Box...

  • forgefirst night trap, i almost peed my pants...and was scared shitless for a week. oncei did it a few more times, it got easier...but there is NOTHING easy about a night trap! daytime...thats a piece of cake!...even though i was freaked out pretty good because i boltered my first ever trap...guys in my squadron didnt let me forget it...especially since they were videotaping the whole thing!

    god i miss it!

  • ah this brings back memories!!! i was in for 9 years (flew S-3's). did cruises on the enterpris and nimitz

  • place bets on which wire he will catch

  • Gud

  • That's a 1 inch cable stopping a 40,000 lb aircraft moving at 210 mph.

  • man, when were you onboard? i just finished my tour there (NOV 07-OCT 10). looks like our old captain, RADM Manazir. best capt ever!

  • is that captain nasty i hear in the background on the bridge shot?

  • How the aircraft stop so fast? lol

  • @JoaoG2008 hook on the end of the plane that catches 4 wires (not at the same time) across the deck and slows the plane down

  • @sreqwq Thanks for explain me =D

    I've noticed it minutes ago...haha.

What's the speed of this plane when will stop?

    Hugs !

  • @JoaoG2008 well its going almost 200 knots on approach and you can see how quickly it stops! its amazing!

  • @sreqwq Wow, hahaha....it's really fast =D

I don't know how much it is in kph but I know that 200knots is fast, I think...

It's amazing as you said =D

  • I don't get to see the 18's take the cable unless something is wrong with the jet,(on a 10,000 ft runway) For you every jet takes the cable..or they go swimming!

  • i think i have to say what all youtubers who saw this: you work in heaven

  • @miguelsaez340 until you do it for 8 months! working 13 hour shifts for about 45 days straight, in around 100*F temp with the exhaust of numerous jets turning all around you and blowing on your back. it's more like hell! I was on that deployment and trust me it sucks!

  • @tejohn07 if you love it, and i do, there is no heat or whatever you mentioned that can bring me down.

flying its a dream and if you love 100% fighters you will go through that

  • Love the landings and love the fact there isn't any music to block out all the good noises.

  • awesome! No music, no crappy narrator. Just lots of kick ass horsepower and loud noise the way god intended!

  • Was this during deployment, or during one of their sea trials?

  • holy crap! look at that steel cable stretch, they go from like idk 150 to 0 in like 4 seconds???? idk there landing speed

  • @tman1gtsi i think its 130 knots

  • How did you get to be there for this? great vids

  • is there any chance of the wheels getting caught?

realy good video by the way

  • I assume its rather cold out there. Just by looking at their clothing

  • @Airplanesaremything nope have to wear all that to protect you from the exhaust and the vest are life jackets for if you fall overboard.

  • Whats amazing is they have to put the jet a full power when they touch down incase they missed the jump line

  • I tell ya these landings impress me every time I see them!

  • Killing mashines for what? Use all these resources and moeny FOR ONCE to do something good. TO grow some of the jungles back that you cut 300-400 years ago.Africa was as green as sout america then. Have they tolled you that?

You want work, and good payment in WHAT CUST? Suffering of others!!?

  • @Ebdan88 finally someone speaks wisely!!! wourl world is in deep trouble!!! oil oil and oil...to keep this aircrafts poluting the atmosphere and so and so...our world will never be a better place with jackasses taking the responsability of decisions---yes make jungles and love not war...or get ready for it!!! big bullshit

  • @Ebdan88 @Ebdan88 finally someone speaks wisely!!! ourl world is in deep trouble!!! oil oil and oil...to keep this aircrafts polluting the atmosphere and so and so...our world will never be a better place with some jackasses taking the responsability of decisions---yes make jungles and love not war...or getting ready for it!!! big bullshit

  • I could watch this all day...

  • Bless military personnel with cameras.

  • WOW 23 commies were jealous of our NAVY

  • what if your out of fuel and you miss the wire? that wouldn't be good

  • @kbugtarheel

what you do if you miss the wire and your out of fuel is bend over kiss your ass goodbye and push the ejection button

  • what if your out of fuel and you miss the wire? that wouldn't be good

  • what if your out of fuel and you miss the wire? that would suck

  • Muy buenas imagenes

  • how do they get that wire attached to the jet?

  • @fox454x tail hook :)

  • @fox454x All carrier capiable aircraft have a special tailhook attached to grad one of the cables.

  • This is great original HD footage its video's like this that deserve to be on here and deserve the high views you went out of your way (extremely) to get this.

  • @lockergnome - 0:01 so is that you crouching next to 3 wire? Best seat in the house! [Besides the being the pilot].

  • This is extremely sick! The audio's out of sync with the video though

  • Nimitz rulez

  • I like 5:00 just amazing. Great Vid.

  • Aboard carriers there are" cat shots" (launch) and "traps"(arrested landings).....not "retrievals" :-)

  • ЗАМЕЧАТЕЛЬНО !!!

  • How many planes can fit on the USS Nimitz and what about your biggest USS Enterprise ?

  • "@robotracking How many planes can fit on the USS Nimitz and what about your biggest USS Enterprise ? "

    You should look it up.

  • Awesome video Chris!! - But got to ask..

How did the nerdiest nerd and geekiest geek get invited to see recovery ops on an aircraft carrier? LOL

Nice camera work at the wires!

  • long live the armed forces of the usa

  • you can tell by watching the planes that some of these guys are still pretty green at carrier landings. But, as they say, with time and practice you can do anything

  • if ur on the east coast or near CT and you're thinking of joining the navy, send me a message. I'm not a recruiter, but I'll definitely guide you into making all the right decisions. Even studying for the ASVAB so that you can get a really good score. Navy is awesome and seals are the real deal! Thinking of joining Seals, SWCC, EOD or Divers... send me a message also. If you live in Southern CT, its easier for u to join the study group. Prepares you for the ASVAB!

  • I served aboard the Nimitz. Great video. As for the question about the guy with the yellow pole...they guide the arresting wires as they are being retracted to ensure they don't snag the turnbuckle on another arresting wire or get fouled. I flew off the Nimitz on emergency leave out of the Persian Gulf in 1998. Talk about a wild ride! 0 to 150 in two and a half seconds!

  • @robertthegreatest have spoken to usaf guys a farnborough air show.and will say the same to you.thanks you guys for making the world a safer place you do a grand job

  • rusty much 1:30

  • What's this guy in the corner with the yellow pole doing??? 5:22

  • y is that? he just provided us with some pretty awsome footage, i'd say he's pretty cool!

  • I envy you fucks for having the carrier.

  • AWESOME Video! Nice angle shots and clear picture!

  • 130 to 0 in three seconds. gotta love the navy :D

  • What speed are planes in landing?

  • 130-135 knots

  • how much is a knot

  • 1 nautical mile/hour or knot is 1.852km/h or 1.15m/h

  • coool

  • I love F-18E .....oh~~~

  • its crazy when the cable snaps, you gotta watch out for that haha

  • one of those thing buzzed us offshore, kinda woke me up...thanx

  • pressure everywhere

  • in my opinion the guy or girl that flew that plane at 2 min 25 kept their cool and realised

  • fucking cool! i wish VN had some of these aircrat carrier so we could kick China ass!!!

  • May I just say thank you for not drowning out the beautiful jet noise with some rock tune!? ;)

Great to see traps up close, especially down at the wire level! Good job!

  • @Omega616 I totallly agree. Thanks for not putting shit ass childish music in the background

  • @Omega616 absolutely

  • Great video the other one you with take offs was a little slow . This sure makes up for it.

  • USS numnutz lol.

No offence its realy cool they got it on discovery too.

  • I was in the U.S.S. Constellation before it was decommisioned and the U.S.S. Lincoln as a Plane Captain and I know exactly how it feels to be on the deck....amazing.

  • That white float coat was awfully Clean in the begining. I expect your brown one wasn't so clean after a while!!

  • How can you get invited?

  • amazing how the hooks dont break on the oplanes-

  • amazing stuff, like it 5*

  • It will bro, It will, the time of aircraft carriers is gone

  • First of all, not it isn't, we are using aircraft carriers more and more.

  • US rocks, UK sucks balls, Good day

  • i spoke to a Navy Pilot. He said Air Force guys are scared to land on a ridicoulsly small platform at 150 mph.

  • You mean "Naval Aviators". They get pissy when you refer to them as pilots.

  • my dad flies a Super Hornet. He has no problem with me saying that.

  • That's cool. mad props for him being a Super Hornet driver. I'm seeing those more and more over head. But they're the new Growlers. The replacements of the the EA-6Bs @ NAS Whidbey.

  • @sikorsky158 Great for him, I hope for myself to be in that positiion, i have a life map, i just need better grades, lol.

  • how come n fsx it tips over when i trap the wires and yet here it dosent evev lean at all?!

  • It is not that realistic, I would like to see them fix that, I hate it being like that :(

  • if its a bitch to do it on flight sim, its impossioble to do it in real life

  • Awesome video. In reality, it's awe inspiring to see these pilots land on a landing surface that's smaller then most people's back yards!!!

  • you tend to forget this is in the middle of the ocean and its moving. there biggest fear is probably coming up short thad suck

  • Very good documentation of the arresting cable. I imagine that during landing a pilot is mainly bothered by speed, altitude, angle of approach - does he ever think he might crash into the aircrafts along the landing deck? Or is this possibility out of question?

  • Comment removed

  • Yes, that is really a disaster, isn't it. Your brother is probably spoiled for the rest of his life now, now he heard that awful F word.

  • Comment removed

  • Aww how sad its not a big fucking deal if you think he was raised any better wait till he grows up your basically a pussy if you think any of those words are bad its just common English so stop being a little bitch k?

  • It looks like he "popped up". They wouldn't cuss on an open frequency.

  • this is a great video! thanks for posting

  • very cool

  • Good vid chris.

  • Awsome aircraft carrier. Seen one like it when i was in turkey the uss truman. Like a floating city.

  • I almost flagged this for Sexual Content....

  • hahahahaa

  • its a joke you dumbass

  • well its not funny its a stupid joke =p

  • Cool show my friend

  • Why is the video so delayed? I kept thinking that another jet was coming in just as one had landed.

  • look at the info

  • my bad

  • The attempted but failed retrievals were amusing...

  • I could watch this all night long. Amazing footage of amazing technology. So impressive. Thanks Chris thank you very much.

  • is it me or is the audio out of sync?

  • HD videos loads very slow

  • trade speed for quality

  • Jeez...HD looks better than real life!

  • They come to a stop so quick.

  • Which camera did you use to make this video? The quality is great!

  • Oh man!!

You are lucky to do that trip!!

    5/5

  • F 18 HORNETS RULE!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    SWEET

  • Hornets Suck! Tomcats Rule!!!

    Damn Bugs!

  • says the guy looking at a hornet video?!?!?1

  • Why is there always a little flap of the tail wings once they have landed?

  • Nice action shots.

  • *CABLE SNAPS*

  • That rly is awesome how did u get on dude
