To me, it seemed to look like a bird which is also a leaf.Which thinking about it makes as much sense as the other theories. :P

Unfortunately not - we didn't have such luxuries for the Game Gear! I know what you mean though - the controls bothered me a little to start with, but you soon get used to them.
I think the crest is an homage to the little green potbelly imp.
