Getting over $1000 from you governor tends to make a governor popular ....for a year. As I recall, when she quit, the Permanent Fund was running low.

@togowack Apologies. You're right. She apparently did raise taxes on the oil companies. I was thinking of the one-time distribution of an extra $1200 per person in 2008. My relatives in Juneau blew theirs on a trip to Disney World. And the permanent fund payout dropped in 2009, and dropped further in 2010.

@togowack The spike in oil prices during Q2 and Q3 of 2008 did lead to increases in the Permanent Fund before the Stock market collapse. But it was not Palin's leadership that pushed oil over $140/bbl and gas over $4.00/gal. Then in 2009 the Fund dropped from its peak of $40 billion in 2007 to $26 billion early in the year. IT began to increase when the stock market began to recover - after Obama's Stimulus Bill passed - but Palin opposed the stimulus bill. Palin bailed in mid 2009.
