Servicing costs are no different to other Mercs of that era. The Alusil blocks are long lasting with correct and regular servicing (oil and filter changes). It is only if engine reconditioning is required that things become more complex with the need to sleeve any damaged cylinder with an Alusil liner. As manufactured, the Alusil engines don't have cylinder liners as the bores are treated with the Alusil process.
Sweet car... Are there any downsides to this car when you have to service it??? I have a bad feeling about those silicon/aluminum blocks... Are they high maintenance cars?? I have a 280-SL, which I've owned since 1992, and I want a 500 SLC badly!!!
