I should correct myself. Rita for the most part looks fine, but when there is the close-up, you can tell that they could have done a little more work on her. The lack of furriness on the characters is also a downer, again, especially on Rita, since foxes should have a lot of fur. But enough with that, set aside the fact that it isn't Don Bluth 2D animation-style, or whatever criticism you may have, and watch it at least once.
I think a reason for going CGI wasn't just because it was cheaper than 2D animation, but that the particular scenarios in this movie would have been trickier to deal with, imo. Of course there is always the 'next generation' discussion. I loved the animation of the first 2 movies, but this has it's charm. I do cringe a little by the lack of detail they gave Rita, especially the texturing between the red and white fur. I enjoyed this movie, even though I couldn't understand 99% of what they said.
Awh.... The 3D looks awful and the characters dont seem to have personality.... Man.. What a shame... Would have been much, much better if they would stick with the old frame by frame, but then again that's more time consuming than just making a stiff 3D character and this is clearly a "harvesting money" project.... Man.. and Hugo was the best danish animation movie.... It's sad to see it go like this.
Last time i checked a science text book (yesterday) animals of different species cant have a child. in other words, a dog cannot breed with a monkey, so unless Hugo is some deformed fox, this is just a holly wood fantasy.

You can't CGI Jungledyret Hugo anymore than you can CGI Bambi. It's just meant to be 2D animated.
Hugo and Rita need to have a child at some point, and spit on the graves of whoever thinks it's icky. HOWEVER. They do seem pretty young to be bringing up a kid now--best for them to enjoy being young and in love first.
hmm... i think i liked it better pen & paper. Though thats not to say this version is bad, it's just the animation style seems reminiscent of Jimmy Nuetron XD
But no matter if the animation isn't perfect, I still want to see this movie. Does anybody know if or when it's going to be released in English? The only trailers I've seen are in Danish. They're still cute, but one thing that annoys me a bit with the new animation is that the hair is too flat and makes them look like teddybears. In the cartoon, the characters had those little spikes on the head that made the fur look more realistic...

I second this. I've only known about this movie and series for about 20 minutes, and I'm already falling in love with it, especially the relationship between Hugo and Rita. Traditionally animated movies for some reason just have more soul that CGI. I think the Lion King was the last great Traditional Animated movie released.

I believe the reason that alot of these Directors are using CGI is because it is alot cheaper, and more Time efficiant, where as in the whole 2D perspective, you have hundreds of artists drawing parts of the film, don't get me wrong I still like My 2D cartoons but I like the effort and the ammount of work that goes into these CGI's

I agree, part of what I loved about the first two films were that they were 2D animated- and it's just cheezy that they're not being consistent- unless they were going to animate this pixar style, they should have just gone with good old fashioned 2D. :P It seems like everyone and their mom wants to do 3D these days. I still wanna watch it, though :D But I miss the 2Dness.
Plus, it's funny how it ruins the animation style they had before. Rita's head is like 4 times the size of her body, and with CG, that really stands out in a bad way. And I see her K-9 teeth constantly disappearing and reappearing. 2-D could get away with all that. This is downright freaky.
