  • I think its kinda important to recognize the fact that from a sound engineering standpoint, its much much easier to build a good sounding headphone if its open-back. It simply allows the frequencies to develop their full resonance, thus creating a much fuller sound. The real trick is sustaining the sound quality while using a closed back design (imho closed backs have a higher worth since they block out most of the justifiably annoying background noises).

  • Bass reception :'D

  • SR 80 are indeed the all time best phones regarding sound, but comfort could be better....

  • u got a rug hanging on your wall like u live in Afghanistan

  • @t3mper hahahaXD This is NOT my room, its my friends!!

  • @entwistle14 Actually, it's kind of a waste if you don't have a amp for the headphones. These headphones require allot of power, and if you run it through an iPod or iTouch without an amp you're not using it to the full potential. Best to play on home stereo systems, etc. OR, invest in the HM-601, best MP3 player in the world :D built in amp!

  • @2daewoo4u I do have a amp that was made for me, surprisingly the headphones still sound great by themselves. Thanks for the comment. I will check into the HM-601

  • @t3mper Best comment I've seen in a while.

  • @Zombbg4 one of my favorites too XD DURKA DURKA

  • Bass response is the word you are looking for... not bass reception!

  • straight angle? thats a paradox.

  • @kingreco2 There's such thing as a 180 degree angle, or "straight angle"

  • GRADO SR80i RULEZS!!! i love mines. goodbye monster beats solo hd.

  • are those donuts foam comfortable if you wear eye glasses?

  • What earcups are those?

  • How comfortable?

  • mate, do those "high end" earpads change the quality of the sound? thanks

  • hi friends help me please i listen music on iMac 27 Echo audiofire 2 Firewire Yamaha Mixer Stanton Turntable St 150 Adam A5 Grado Heaphones sr 60 is good for my audio system? Grado is Good only iPod/iPhone? Help me Please!!!!!! Thanks

  • @DMCakaJCARDEMA Grado is good for ANYTHING!!!!

  • did you know by adding tape around the foam cups will increase the bass?

    oh

different tape gives different sound so experiment with it :)

it is by far the cheapest mod you can do with the grados

  • @ducttaperulestheworl no, I dident know that, thank you very much:)

    - Jack

  • @entwistle14

I just found it out only. :)

so I've just thought of sharing this mod with you

  • @ducttaperulestheworl does this mod apply only to the old 80 model or to the new 80i model (which uses the flat pads)?

  • @dautolover

this basshead mod only applies to earcups...

it does not work on foam pads, flat pads or even high end giant bowls

only those small bowls like the grado sr80

  • Hi, I'm from Brazil and like to listening to Hip Hop, Dance, Pop like Lady Gaga, Alecia Keys, Rianna for example! Do Do you think the Grado SR80i would do a good job playing those type of music? I'll use ir woth an amplifier! I know you said they have a nice bass responce, it is a flat bass or a nice tigh bass? Thank You

  • @rmappita just in case you havent made a decision still...

i wouldnt recommend these for heavy bass. a distinction between powerful and natural bass should be made. powerful bass i what i think you are looking for, especially with hip hop music. natural bass isnt bad, but bassheads would want a whole lot more than what these cans give off

  • @dautolover The problem is that you don't have enough juice in your amp and your MP3s sound thin. That's why you are not happy with Grado's bass. Full CD quality files are encoded at 1400 kbps vs. 128 and 256 kbps files in iTunes. More data equals better bass and clearer sound.

  • @Coilaman oh i love the bass these things produce. i think the general public, however, are conditioned to think that bass should sound powerful, even distorted. they may not find these to be enough.

frankly, i think that mp3s encoded through lame at around 256 kbps are transparent enough for me. i agree however that amp choice has a lot to do with the amount of sound these things can produce. i dont have the money honestly (i use these with my Zune) but completely satisfied with the sound

  • @dautolover The bass is very powerful on Grado headphones, but you must have the power for them. And file quality is very important. Without proper power and file quality, you will never know how good those headphones can sound. The difference is night and day.

  • When you swivel the earcup, does the metal rod turn with it?...and how tight is the slider...does it tend to adjust on it's own at all?

  • yes it does, it's nicely tightened. It adjustets on its own.

    thanks for the comment

  • For people who are concerned about sound leakage...

If you wear a biker's crash helmet over the phones, you'll eradicate the problem somewhat.Even moreso, if you wear a thick woolen scarf round your neck to seal the gap between your neck and the helmet.

  • Thanks for the video review, but your video and audio are out of sync.

  • uh you could elaborate a bit about the sound, info in this "review" is just lacking...

  • Sweet phones man. I think I might return my Shure SRH 440s for a pair of SR80i's. Can you measure the length of the cable please?

  • AlecMomont,

so that means there's no way I could listen to them in a classroom without annoying others? =S

  • what id like to know is will i disturb others around me on the train if i listen to it with medium volume.

  • no, it dosent when I use them

  • @sf2explus

    yeah

  • thanks for being honest mate too many people pretend they leak a little sound i have just got the sr80i they leak more than a little but good quality sound im using it for home use the idea of double use has now fadded

  • Very uninformative review, but nice to know they sound good I guess...

  • 2 questions... 1) how well do they block outside noise? 2) how much noise do they leak?

  • they will block out some noise, they leak alot of noise.

  • @ddduncan7 Do not block noise whatsoever. btw, the MS1 (by alessandro) is better than the SR80i IMO. Alessandro Products is a sub-company of Grado (regarding only their headphones). PM me for extra info (if you want)

  • Grados sound nice. I'probably get shit for saying this but they have shitty build quality. In less than a year the headband come off the bracket, this was managable as i could just put it back in. However, the connection in the headphone jack started going out so i had to get it fixed.

I have a pair of Sennheiser HD 280s, about the same price. The Sennheisers have taken much more abuse and i have not had any problems. , i like the senns better, they sound much more neutral

  • and um pretty flexible hahahahahaahah

  • what?

  • I owned a pair of sr 80@s for 2 years, they sounded great, but were so uncomfortable, that i sold them, have some basic goldring dr 50's now, sound nearly as good ( i heard goldring gets its drivers off grado, just a rumour)

  • you said um about 239482934 times....

  • yeah, about everybody says it in there speech, asshole.

    you are "um" BLOCKED!!

  • bass reception? dude its bass response

and btw your saying grado wrong

  • Great bass reception. I don't think I'm saying Grado wrong, even if I' am its no big deal.

  • alright i dont care about the grado thing it was just a heads up up but dont say bass reception its bass response

  • is it a 3.5mm headphone jack?

  • I don't really know, you can find out if you go on google.

  • haha grados a\were never, is not and will never be VERY comfortable. The new flaghsip the new PS1000 sells for 1k bucks and they didnt even care to make a better headband than the one on this one

  • good earphones but they suck outdoors bc they are open air earphones thats why i recommend you guys not to buy em if you wanna use it outdoors...

  • I think they sound great outdoors

  • for one condition...you can here the exterior noise compared to closed headphones

  • not to me they dont

  • If they were closed headphones they would have to sacrifice sound quality. These are not noise canceling headphones, nor are they marketed as such.

  • Is it worth it to buy the donut earpads to replace the earpads it comes with? Does it do much difference in terms of comfort?

  • Mine came with the donut ear pads, yes, I think they are more comfortable then the ear pads.

    thanks for the comment

  • well, sorry, I don't work at Grado, so I'm not a professional. If your not happy with my video, don't watch it and make one your self that you like better, everybody else appreciated this video.

  • This is the vaguest review I've seen in a long while.

  • just a question.. I have never heard open headphones but I know people around can hear your music because they are open. My question is how loud they are?? enough to bother other people.. for example this headphones will be suitable for work?

  • yes, they can get very loud, it depends what work you are doing.

    thanks for the comment

  • just letting you know thats a vinyl headband not leather. and yes they are amazing headphones. I own those and the igrados. both very good. cant buy anything better for under 200$

  • It's called a straight angled/right angled PLUG. : ) Not a very informative review. You should have talked about how they actually sound - how's the bass, mids and treble on these? Is the bass tight? Is the sound full? Are they musical? What kind of music do you listen to with these? You say that these are the best you have ever heard, but what other headphones have you tried? You need some reference for comparison.

  • I listen to classic rock, jazz, r&b, ect (but no rap) and the answer to everything you asked me is yes, they are just awesome head phones, I am sorry that it was not very informative, if you want good headphones, Grado is the answer:)

    Thanks for the comment

  • So confused.

    I don't know whether I want the Sr80s or the 125s.

  • Well, They are both great, if you buy the sr125s you will have to buy and adapter for it because, the cable built in it is made for a stereo system, you will need to get another adapter so it will plug into an ipod, cd player, ect but, I am very happy with the sr80s.

Thanks for the comment and subscribing.

  • Thank you very much for the review and your comment... I went to go buy the Sr80s and I'm incredibly happy with them. Even youtube videos sound better

  • I am glade you are happy with them, take care of them:D

    Thanks for the comment

  • Play pc games ?

    anygood ?

    some info please :-)

  • these with an rsa amp would sound frikken amazing for gaming..especially if u play fps

  • Sorry, I don't really play any PC games.

    Thanks for the comment

  • I think these might be my new headphones :) currently using the Skullcandy G.I ones but they're shit compared to Grado...

  • Cool

  • You need a high quality headphone output for good sound on these. If you use them straight out of iPod, you are not going to be impressed. They lack bass with iPod only because iPod does not have much power to drive them properly.

  • I think they sound awesome through my ipod, I do have some good quality outout's for it.

    Thanks for the comment

  • Actually iPods can drive them easily.

  • nice review, very detail,

  • Thank you

  • would these headphones be good for listening to hip hop? or music with a lot of bass emphasis?

  • yeah, they would give you the sound you are looking for, they give very good bass emphasis, I recomend you getting them, you will be very happy with them.

    Thanks for the comment

  • is the prestige series the same as the normal sr80 headphones? cause amazon has two types?

  • I think that the Prestige (the kind I have) would be best.

    Thanks for the comment.

  • The SR-80 headphones are in The Prestige Series.

  • You can get some good deals now on the older models since their entire line got improved earlier this year. Look on the box and the driver casing is a bit larger too

    SR60 >>> SR60i

    SR80 >>> SR80i

    SR125 >>> SR125i

    etc..........

  • Thanks

  • I actually bought a pair of Grado SR80s yesterday online (mmm... eBay...). No worries though because it is a legit store and the Cans are brand new... I paid 100$... CANADIAN!!! SWEET DEAL!!! I am just waiting for them in the mail... Warranty and everything is valid (as it would at a normal dealer). I tried a pair of SR60s last month... WOW! Unbelievable sound!!! I was shopping around for them but then saw the SR80s at that price, so I got the SR80s... I cannot wait to receive them.

  • Yeah man good choice, you will be very happy with them.

  • I think they were around $80 or $90 dollars.

    thanks for the comment.

  • Hey good job :)

So yeah these headphones are wonderful. I actually use them while jogging but I wear a tennis head band so I don't gunk them up with ear sweat.

I'm going to upgrade to a higher quality next time even though I'm very happy with the SR60's. Nice shirt by the way :)

  • Thanks man:)
