Interesting. The Chery A15 is based on the '80s vintage VW Golf II. So, either the Chery majorly cheaps out, or this shows the difference between the US testing in place then (and now) -- 35mph, full barrier vs. IIHS/Euro now - 40mph, 40% barrier. Gee, 30% more energy into 60% less area, it doesn't surprise me that a car designed for one does poorly in the other. It's a wonder we all didn't die driving pre-IIHS rated cars. ;-)

If they increased their quality, their price would increase making the cars a failure in their home market, where the people want CHEAP instead of quality.

The title is misleading! There is nothing Euro NCAP about this Russian crash test. Using that term simply because they use the same speed doesn't make them the same. Check for yourself on the euro ncap website: this Chery test isn't on it!

Test is done to the same protocol as EuroNCAP, so not only the speed is the same. (By the way, australian ANCAP association uses the same protocol too)

I can't find that anywhere in the text. The poster should not have claimed it to be a EuroNCAP test. The same for ANCAP, if they do a test, it's theirs, not a Euro NCAP test. That was my point. Just because a certain Chinese car looks exactly the same as a certain European model (Like the Opel SUV they copied) doesn't mean they can use the same brand and model name either. Like I said, it's misleading.
