  • fuckin hippies!! skinhead is not a fashion!!

  • There are some great photos of Slade as skins with Jimmy Cliff in a 1969 issue of the Radio Luxembourg mag Fab 208. They looked well'ard in that, and danced the reggae too.

  • I know that they would have never made it as skinheads, but I think they look the best here, but I'm biased I guess having been a skin for 20 odd years now. I agree that Jim and Dave didnt quite pass, but Noddy and Don certainly fit the part.

  • Love this vid. I only wish my eyes didn't wander to the comments when i'm watching something. It almost always pisses me off!

  • Just been reading noddy's autobiography. The skin head saga! Fantastic!

  • great song from a great band !

  • @mikeyboyguitarmad

Wearn't they suede heads? skin heads were more '68-'69?

    ,,,i may be wrong.

  • Oi!!

  • Can also be sound on 'Sladest'.

  • arbuess1.. you are so right!!

  • Slade! my fave band during my school days, the first Skinhead Band too.........Quality!!!

  • Slade, the first Skinhead Band!..........Quality!!!

  • @CliffCFCWarby

No, Slade were never a skinhead band - although they had this hair-cut (due to their manager)

  • @arbuess1 i read in a biog of the band that they had their hair cropped in the bahamas `cos of the heat then they wore the skin clothes for a publicity stunt but it backfired `cos promoters would book `em in case of `bovvver`

  • This is a okay song. It most likely didn't chart due to all the other great music in the charts at the time.

  • @ThePrinceDhani Agreed. Plus, Slade were relatively unknown at the time.

  • Check "KNAPPE9" s channel; he says he likes people with "common sense" AHUM consider the kind of insane insults he is spouting here; also, see the kind of vids this ignorant 15 year old brat fom Germany is favoriting: "drunk skinhead"; now I can see why he is totally mystified by his first encounter in his life ever with Slade in their skinhead style. This piece of shit does not know shite and needs to go back to school, but probably he can t escape his mommy s basement, how sad is that??? LOL

  • and mostly i am alone with my father and cat.

    i hope not.

you arent that type in my book/eyes.

i am a bit mystical man though, lonely man who makes own things...

  • @MrJuha82 no..not mental bullying..some things just happened??

  • @IDIOOTTI62 yep good thign to hear that from your mouth.

no any bullying, no any trolling...sad and bad things in the life i swear...

i tryes to be a good person most of the time, sometimes i am a weird though...every peoples does a mistakes...no one isnt perfect.

but good to hear that your verbal war ended up...before it started (: (: (:

  • @MrJuha82 Peace man! :)

  • @IDIOOTTI62 Peace is an important thing in the life BUT if peoples are too peaceful it means maybe same than you arent doing much of a works...or something is wrong with you if u spend too peaceful life...peoples have to spoke at some point and not being alone and not communicate...i have a that problem...i dont always speak of my troubles to peoples as i keeps the things inside of my "melon" =head

  • ahhh so funny here angry stinky dutches

go and masturbate on the släääde urgghhh

    cheers

  • @knappe9 Bahahahaha QUATSCH!!!!!! Braindead frustrated wanker from Germany you f*ckin low life slag think we are taking your idiotic insults and crap personally hahahahahahahaha. You need to get out of that basement and go back to school!!!!!!! Arguing will get you nowhere in life but you re probably to braindead to be able to realize that.

  • the only other band like this was the jook who later became punk band the radio stars a la "there are no russians in russia" and i think mungo jerry were for a little while.both on google.great image great band

  • hmm..why there are some dudes who doesn't belong here..?

if you don't like...stay on your favorite music side..OK!?

  • @IDIOOTTI62 WELL SAID, MR. OR MRS. IDIOOTTI62. IF SOMEONE DOES NOT LIKE, GET THE HELL OUT OF HERE.

  • Slade wasn't no hippies at all ...

and at least no skinheads.. (they had this hair cut in the beginning) and they hated to cut their hairs like this for their manager's request....and in 70's they all have long hair, but theirs hairs isn't " the main thing" here as i said... these guys rocked and made great music ..

  • @IDIOOTTI62 AGREED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Slade were much more thn a bunch of skinheads. They were the best UK band EVER! Thumbs up!!!!!!!!!!

  • @carlphone You maybe the pro to answer that ....and you are so right! Best UK band!Sure!

  • skinhead not a fashion fuck this fuckin hippies

  • @knappe9 How many Slade albums do you know, honestly??? Do you realize that Slade made brilliant blues and was one of the pioneers for punk in the late sxties and early seventies? And that they wrote many real tunes in a large variety of pop/rock styles?. I think you are a fuckin idiot with very little brains lacking any musical sophistication. Frustrated WANKER post your negative crap on another site pls. BYE BYE

  • @carlphone fuck this mainstream cunts and fuck you too scumbag

  • @knappe9 BAHAHAHAHA AND THUS KNAPPE9WANKER PREDICTABLY SPOUTS MORE ASANINE AND BOLOWNY. FRUSTRATED BRAINLESS TOSSER; IF YOU DON T LIKE, WHY ARE YOU HERE??? GO F*CK YOURSELF O.K.?

  • @knappe9ARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRSE How many times have you used the word f*ck you bloody wanker????? If you have nothing t say, then shut the f*ck up instead of trolling here from your mommy s basement.

  • @proslade ahahah you are so funny stinky dutchy

  • ambrose slade i belive they called themselves first but hell who care loved them then and still do to these days thanks for the memories xx were r u nowadays annie my first love xx

  • chas chandler made them change their image to get noticed, they werent actual skinheads

  • @MultiSweetasbroable The truth about their image is, that most of the public and the media also have been totally misled by that; Slade are one of a few truly greatest bands ever; I don t know if you have listened to all their albums, but I can t think of any other band that has diversified and progressed that much over 25 years. They are probably recordholders for number of real tunes in the largest variety of pop/rock genres. Better than Stones, Zep, Purps, Bowie and you name it.

  • and. THAT is why i say that you missed the point.

  • They WERE a skinhead band... noone in 69 had hair like that - not even dads !!

  • Real traditional skinhead music and did I hear a rude word. Most rude word and the first skinheads on tv.Also the biggest band of the 7ts by a mile.Bowie t rex and the rest all trail in the wake of the one and only Slade.

  • Comment removed

  • Oh my gosh: I've never seen Slade pre-stilleto boots and long hair.......these are great!

It's almost like watching the early Beatles perform.

Merry Christmas to all of you!!!

    Steve

  • @toysbyus1 Slade were best bands after the Beatles, one of the best bands ever.

  • @carlphone you should be given the editors job at musical express,,your brilliant at recognising talent,, especially exceptional talent,,slade are of that calibre,,the beatles were in that catagory,,yes maybe they are the no 1 band ever,,but as you so rightly stated slade were no 2,,and still are,,

  • @robharding1957 I THINK YOU MIGHT BE CARLPHONE/PROSLADE AS WELL MAN, ALL OF YOUR COMMENTS POINT OT THAT...

  • @DanielDumile absolutely not im my own man,,

  • @robharding1957 SO NOW THAT I'VE BUSTED HIM, WHAT DO YOU FEEL ABOUT A "MAN" SO PATHETIC THE WHEN HE KNOWS HE'S LOSING ON YOUTUBE HE HAS TO MAKE MULTIPLE ACOUNTS?!?!

GO AROUND TO LIKE 50+ SLADE VIDEOS, YOU'LL SEE ME THERE, I'VE BUSTED HIM!ME AND SOME PEOPLE ARE HAVING A GOOD LAUGH AT HIS MENTAL EXPENSE!

  • @DanielDumile try growing up and be an adult, you obviously have a problem with proslade,, but let me put you right if you think im that person,,,,,then you really are deluded,,,

  • @robharding1957 TRY NOT BEING PROSLADE/CARLPHONE...

  • @DanielDumile ive always been pro-slade always will be,,greatest band in my eyes, but im still not the guy you seem to think l am,, cheer up and listen to some real music,,,

  • @robharding1957 SHIT IS SO EASY TO PLAY, TAKES NO TALENT, BESIDES, THEY STOLE MOST OF IT!

  • Ancient history from Slade.

Check out the album 'Play It Loud' for more of these great early Slade songs.

Never seen this clip, very interesting indeed!

  • @DATMAAKJEDEKATMAARWI slade alive is another great early album keep on rockinnnn.

  • @douglasgh2 Slade Alive is my favorite album, and has been for nearly 40 years. Born to Be Wild is the greatest noise in the Universe! Slade's version makes Mars Bonfire sound like Leonard Cohen on downers.

  • @douglasgh2 Slade Alive is my favorite album, and has been for nearly 40 years. Born to Be Wild is the greatest noise in the Universe! Slade's version makes Mars Bonfire sound like Leonard Cohen on downers.

  • Hahahaha nope, are your silly wild winds blowing yet, Teddingtroll wanker muppet loser? I know another great Slade song for you: 'I win you lose', very appropriate ain t it???

  • My sincerest apologies, Sir Joe Hawkins I didnt mean to step on your knee high boots. However I must say your all caps language has fouled my crombie.

  • Wow boots and braces. You could almost belive this is the root of the "Oi" scence.

  • fuck this hippie shit SKINHEAD NOT A FASHION ITS A WY OF LIFE

  • Excellent song, this would have to be the first pre-1971 Slade song I listened to. Interesting they originally had shaved heads before going with the flow n growing their hair in the 70s, Aussie heavy rock band The Coloured Balls featuring Lobby Loyde went in the opposite direction of fashion in the early 70s going from long hair to shaved hair which was a very popular fashion among the Sharpies gangs of Australia around the time.

  • kin hell

Nice button downs. Good old Slade eh ?

  • Nice! Shame that they were cunts and went to glam rock....

    So much of an attitude.

  • its great ...it was in the punkrockdays...its funny, its great, its simply SLADE...

  • Не ожидал такого от Слэйд! Хотя более поздний Слэйд уже узнаётся - та же раскованная и плотная манера игры.

  • @DmitryDen Agreed Slade were even better than the Beatles, thank you for your input!!!

  • @carlphone Clearly delusional....................found the windmill yet???

  • @teddingtontcu NOPE but have you read that highest ranked comment here??? He or she has real music sophistication, or is that person also 'delusional'?

How desolate depressed loser wanker do you have to be to hate the most upbeat band from your own country? 95% here and Brits in general don t agree with you, you should start your anti-Slade movement, on this kind of uploads your weird-ass views will be torn apart as I have noticed. I have no more time for your anti-Slade rubbish. Period.

  • @teddingidiot MR. ROBHARDING 1957 IS RIGHT !!! You said carlphone doesn t command your mommy s language, has shit musical sophistication blablabla??? So other people who know what they are talking about have a different opinion huh? You wanker loser.

  • I wish they'd stayed skinhead instead of dressin all crazee now!!

  • Where hAVe i been. This early stuf is pure gold

  • Noddy's hair is ... short?!?! This is mindblowing ...

  • Great song

  • Slade to me must be the most underated band of all time, even though they experienced more success than most bands of their era, they some how got stuck in the 70's glam perception in many peoples minds.. Slade were much more than that, being highly origional, writing good quality songs and melodys, great characters both on and off stage. I just wish they could do one more tour, I would be at the front of the queue for tickets! KEEP ON ROCKIN!!!

  • Very very rare!

  • slade were the best

  • slade were the best

  • wooooow great !!!!!!!!

  • I will never understand to this day why the Yanks just did'nt get it! Must be something in their drinking water!

  • @baz4111 Yeah we totally freakin' missed the boat on Slade. I shudder to think of the other amazing bands I may have no inkling of...

  • @baz4111 dont worry brother this yank worships these giants. god bless slade !!!

  • @baz4111 actually the yanks did get them....and in return we gave you punk. the underbelly of america got it....i for one am a yank that gets them. how else would something like the ramones have been born if it wasnt for slade. now as for mainstream america....yes they had their heads up their ass

  • Build me a time machine and send me back to this exact moment and i would die a happy man!

  • Great stuff!!!

    Ruiseart.

  • One of the best Slade songs I've ever seen. Dressed as skinheads but playing glam rock or classic rock...this is perfect. Oi! Oi! Slade...cheers from PA, USA!

  • This is when they where called "Ambros-Slade and ive been to a good few of there concerts, 'Which where absolutly fantastic for a 12-16 year full of life young boy.!! takes me right into the happy zone, lol Thanks..

  • @fallinhalo1 Actually, they changed their name to The Slade for this one release in October 1969. By 1970 they had become just plain old Slade. ;-)

  • Thanks to Sladev for posting that. Even in 69 Slade ruled way before chart success.

    Exquisite clip.

Long live The Mighty Slade !!

  • Nod the God !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @GonzoRecovery just our greatest glamrockers around in the supersonic 70s,noddy and jim were great songwriters ,

  • OI , BIFFA! D'YA HOY THEM TABS AT WOR LASS?! NAYONE HOYS TABS AT WOR LASS!!!

Seriously , thank you for sharing something so rare , and a great song , besides.

  • BETTER THAN THE BEATLES

  • yeahhhhh! hill always loved mcartney, but i think hes way better!!!! keep on rocking!

  • @IDIOOTTI62 no.

  • @pmls72

OK, I like The Beatles too, but this very old TV - performanse of SLADE is SO GOOD!!!

  • @IDIOOTTI62 Did you check their version of Beatles Martha my dear in the same old TV setting? That is brilliant. Be careful with your above comment with hardcore Beatles fanatics if you tell the truth about who really were the best!

  • Comment removed

  • @pmls72 Might be the only one ever to be better yes. Commercial succes or revolution for the pop does not automatically mean Beatles were the best in pop history.

  • @pmls72 The public radar makes everybody believe The beatles were the best, but believe me, Slade could give them a run for their money for their superb live act and the number of styles they have played and evolving continuously. IMHO Highest concentration of truly great songs. Period.

  • @IDIOOTTI62 Only band ever that might be better than the Beatles yes, becoz they really rock and, are have played more pop/rock styles, I have listened to all of their albums and how they have developed. But we have to be careful to post comments becoz most people think that this is impossible (lol).

  • @IDIOOTTI62

No, but way better than the Stones.

  • @nemirn Okay so the second best band ever? Becoz the Stones are second on VH1 100 Greatest. I agree although I think Slade had an unparallelled number of great tunes in more popstyles than any band in the history of pop. Do you know their for instance their last 3 albums, engineering a unique new anthem/gospel style?

  • @nemirn IDIOOT62 is right, SLADE>BEATLES.

  • @IDIOOTTI62 ....more hits then the beatles. The glam image is what relegated them to the bargain bin.

In retrospect, I wonder if the skin head image wouldn't be worse then the space-alien glam era image.

I'm amazed they were able to get on tv as skin heads....it didn't mean....uh...well maybe it DID mean that I mean I wasn't there....I don't know.

....rent "THIS IS ENGLAND" and you'll see what I mean.

  • @issofunky MY only intention is to comment on the music .. not the appearance, hair, etc. ..

let it be so... when this program was made 1969..i think they didn't think their hairstyle is the issue...

  • @IDIOOTTI62 could be very interesting,, two world class bands no doubt

  • @robharding1957Yes, I think that Slade was a lot more than just glam-rock band..much more!!!!!!

  • @IDIOOTTI62 absolutely, they got that tag from the media ,but like you said in your comments earlier,,,they were much much more,,they made the biggest impact on my life as a kid of 14,,still do at 57,,cheers now, rob,

  • @robharding1957 wow....I was only 10??( -72 )when I heard them first time here "in the middle of nowhere..ha haa..and it's was " love at first sight" ;)

  • @IDIOOTTI62 all the best for the future,,hey you were still born at a great time,,60s rule,,,regards rob ,,,slade till l die,,

  • @robharding1957 Thanks! Best for you too! Slade.. The Band!!!

  • That song Rocks. It's Amazing that it didn't reach the charts! I'm ready to explode when i see that slade have so many underestimated songs.

Slade is one of the best rockbands ever and nobody can change it. C'est la vie .....

  • it's funny to see them with the whole skinhead look. they look like something out of the 30s.

  • I remember their first three singles (as Slade) being played on the radio - Know who you are was played a lot. I was surprised at the time that they couldn't have a hit single - especially as they were given a lot of publicity with the Skinhead look - all of that changed obviously with Get down and get with it.

  • Great stuff

  • Great stuff. His voice evolved alot. I didn't recognize him at first - but when he hits those high notes, the great Noddy Shriek comes through.

  • tnx for share. really good!

  • It is so weird to see Slade with really short hair!

  • IIIIIIITTTTTS CHRRRIIIIIIIIIIIIIISSSSSTMAAAAAAAAAAAS! . . . . no? okay i'll leave now *shuffles away*

  • Reply to a couple of the comments on here.

    >Slade Underrated ?

They are the second biggest singles band in the UK after The Beatles. Slade (in the UK) were huge.

    >Slade still tour without Noddy Holder.

    ...Do your homework people.

  • So Thripweed are you saying the four that I saw at Earls court in 73 and Hammersmith in 74 are back together?

  • underrated in the US...

  • @MrAlQ And in the rest of thw world

  • I meant underrated on the basis that people just think of them as a "glam rock" band and not the great rock band that they were.

  • neva seen this either !!!-best band eva !!!!

  • Comment removed

  • I heard 'Coz I Luv You' and by the time 'Take Me Back Home' was released, I was hooked. My first LP was 'Slade Alive', later, I had 'Sladest'. Slade were a top band and their changing 'look' didn't bother me at all, as all I cared about was the music. All these years later 'Take Me Back Home' is still a song that needs to be played as loudly as you neighbours can stand, simply because it makes you feel that good. That's what music should do, and Slade were a band that could really rock !!!

  • Mr62 you remind me of an age gone by when i was 11 and my older sister was into reggae, monkey spanner etc. It was youth clubs and tank tops, long before cider and outside top.......... happy days.

  • Slade are probably the most underrated British band of all time.Had they not got caught up in the Glam Rock movement their career would have lasted much longer.

  • Had Noddy Holder not retired they would still be going!! He refuses to gig, DO JUST ONE GIG A YEAR PLEEEAAAAAAASE !!!!

    Cum on SIr NOD!!!

  • I fully agree, they could blow somewhere like Glastonbury away.Heard Noddy interviewed a while back and he feels the whole business of setting the band back up and rehearsing etc would be too much for him now.

  • Such a shame because I`d pay good money to see a full re union. The one band I`ve regretted never getting to see.

  • they were the best glam band! nuthin else touched them.. i loved pre glam slade though! don was awesome writer!!

  • Keep in mind that their "skinhead look" was the idea of their manager at that time (former Animals' bassist Chas Chandler). Slade were never really skinheads, never really comfortable with it and quickly hung up their Ben Shermans and sta-prest and grew their hair. Along with other glam bands like the Sweet, Mott, SAHB, the Jook and a few other, Slade did develop a skinhead following.

  • HA HA THEY ARE SKINHEADS ! :) NICE...

  • Fuckin Exellent, love this. They look cool as fuck, such a shame they ended up lookin like they did a few years later. Even though their music has always been good they looked just awful.

  • mother fuck slade

  • Lea's Bass 1:00 in is Stunning!

  • Punk rock n the sixties. Bloody Brilliant.

No surprise that Slade have influinced the likes of Gene Simmons, Oasis etc

Thanks for posting this gem, never had seen it before.

  • Short hair? Dress shirts? I wouldn't a thought it possible. . .

  • Ummm...don't you recognize skinheads?

  • Dude - OF COURSE I recognize skinheads! That's the point. When you get used to people looking a certain way, its weird to see them with an entirely different look. Especially Slade, who are notorious for outlandish costumes and wild appearence.

  • The 'boards are there though :)

  • GIVE IT SUM OMMER.....BLACK COUNTRY AT IT BEST...THE TRUE SPIRIT OF 69....Skinheads Live And Die Evenly.....S..L..A..D..E

  • Never seen a film of them in their skinhead period before. Nice Brian Jones twiddlies from Mr Hill.

  • Noddy Holder hair skimed? doesnt look like the striped hat leprechauned grasshopper he looks from then on hehe hes a real laurel aitkens!

muy buenos. i dont like the look on uncle sammys face either

  • Awesome. Really old footage. Thanks :)

  • the song is still a fine seventies song

  • I don't care about the look at all. This rocks and that's all that matters.

  • Jim Lea's bass work on this performance is incredible!

  • you're not wrong!
