It's kinda strange cause the camera keep's going back to the frozen man's face and I keep looking if he's real or accidently flinch's an eye, or move's just a hare in front of the camera?
Always loved this movie...one of my favorites. Also very proud to now own a .54 cal Hawken rifle. As others can tell you, IT IS THE shit. Very powerful and deadly accurate.
This film takes me to another place and time.... and as a full blood native to this land, i am happy to see my people acting instead of white men with make up haha. great film!!!
@keepitwitmine Im native german. Hunter . I woud love to go hunting in your mountains, man . Despite Im no mountain man, but an old sailor . Keep your powder dry . Rgds
@7berger7 The one time I climbed the summit of a mountain in the Rockies I was accompanied by a German. Santa Fe Baldy in the Sangre de Cristo range, back in october 1989.
I scout and hike in the deep woods of the pacific northwest all the time. I carry a note similar to this one in my pocket, except instead of Hawken it says M1 Carbine. It is my hope that if I meet my end in the woods, that I do so with dignity...or lacking that, I at least leave behind a nice looking corpse.
I love this movie. First saw it around '87 or '88 and I watch it every time it's on tv. Can't remember how many times I've seen it, but will keep watching whenever it is on. Great movie.
yeah man what a site. imagine being in his situation. finding someone who was in your exact position as a human in a forrest not discovered by the least bit. all he had was survival in his head and this man dying by something as simple as a grizzy ( plenty in the sierra nevada ) just baffles me. humans have become weak. anybody today would DIAL 911, or scream their headoff at a sight like this while waiting for rescue. THESE PEOPLE WERE MEN. MEN IS AN UNDERSTATEMENT. THEY WERE SAVAGES.
My favorite movie yet! Did anyone notice In the beginning scene there's a sign on one of the buildings that reads; "J.R. Coonan's Saloon" and that John R. Coonan is an associate producer of this movie?
l am Bear Claw Chris Lapp blood-kin to the grizzly
that bit Jim Bridger's ass! And you are molesting my hunt! .. l know who you are! You're the same dumb pilgrim l've been hearing for 4 days - and smellin for 3 !

415 grn. slug over 125 grains of 3F black powder will take an ELK inside of 150 yards .
A Hawken is still da SHIT for a primitive BP hunt out west . Wish I still had my Cabela's .58 caliber .

Mormons were lucky they didn't happen upon the Creek, Choctaw, Seminole, Chickasaw or Cherokee, this movie would have had different ending!

in my humble opinion...
top 5 movies of all time.
The acting wasn't all that great. Shitty at times, but the cinemagraphy and setting made it.
