  • thats a sweet lay up

  • thumbs up if your here because of the 2k insider

  • Dr J = King James!

  • The Most Amazing thing about that play was How the Doc picked up his dribble with one hand and then the layup. He grabbed that basketball like it was a golfball. I don't see any players today, including Centers have those type of hands. Truly Amazing

  • Even being able to palm the ball, THIS ISH AIN'T EASY!

  • this was sick... all hail Doctor J!

  • Did you notice the Jazz's color guy? Hot Rod Hundley! What a great play-by-play man!

  • even to this day that is the most incredible layup ever

  • posterized. . wait its not a dunk

  • Best Layup Ever!!!! Dr J. Was The Man

  • 這招是他學我的................無恥

  • @daheng188 how do you can read this omg haha

  • Dr J was bleezed straight up sky jammin on them dudes was like daaaaaaamn. Haha.

  • What's amazing is right before he took off. He picked up his dribble with one hand.

  • In Your Face 3 Of You~

  • Its like Damn son howd you do that....oh thats right Your motherfuckin Dr. J

  • i've been watching a few of these videos of basketball in the old times...how come it seems like they can hold the ball in their hand so easily...compared to nowadays?

  • overrated i can do this shit

  • @kingjamessolja so you can palm the ball off the dribble do a reverse layup WITH a 7 footer in your way, im sure you can....

  • @kingjamessolja I see lakers fans are here in force.

  • The afro kept him airborne for a split second longer.

  • then kareem sky hook'ed over dr.j .haha

  • @emrik300 Another lakers fan here

  • holy god, i wish i could have seen you in the ABA doc!

  • Why is it "sick"?

  • @dralger dat man went under da court in the air that man was in the air 4 bout 5 seconds try being in da air 4 three seconds

  • One of the most amazing plays in the history of basketball

  • BY the doctor!

  • This move was so money that Grover Washington Jr wrote the song, "Let It Flow" to celebrate it.

  • Kareem has 3 YT accounts..lol

  • I remember that play like it was yesterday....incredible.

  • this is so nasty. i had to switch over to porn when my mom came by

  • @kimbobrand7

this isn't a dubstep vid, those types of comments aren't necessary :p

  • @kimbobrand7

Best comment I ever read in my life! LOL!

  • @kimbobrand7 *LOOOOOL*

  • @kimbobrand7 lmao!

  • @kimbobrand7 Best. Comment. Ever.

  • i have to flag this vedio for sexual content, cuz it's too nasty

  • i have to flag this vedio for sexual content, cuz it's too nasty

  • i have to flag this vedio for sexual content, cuz it's too nasty

  • The best ever. Jordan only wishes he was this good.

  • good old tv dayss

  • @tdotk1d mj actually HAD to lay up in many cases because of double and triple teaming... Obviously you haven't watched his airness. Even this dr j lay up was forced because of kareems nice D...

  • Go bulls

  • this must be the sickest layup in the history of basketball

  • that layup is so wicked!!!!!!! that should be made best layup of NBA History that is even better and more complex then MJ's... especially he made it harder more complex and just so sick!!! I <3 Julius Erving sickest NBA player ever! you should scheck up hes top 10 dunks its so sick... just trust m3e and watch it

  • Julius was able to palm the ball so easily lol. I think Kobe said he wishes he had bigger hands like Dr. J

  • trust him: hes a doctor!

  • WTF there waz no were to go but out of bounds

  • @udhoop it's a good thing you can't spell "weak" cause jordan on the court was unstoppable

  • @udhoop That's why MJ's layup was considered so sick... He didn't have to do anything, he could've dunked it easily, but he choose to make it harder and thus making it sick. But I gotta admit, this was a sicker layup than MJ's...

  • @udhoop best shot? no the best layup. hahaha

  • @udhoop Kind of a pity you didn't see his layup against the nets. In all honesty that was better then Dr J's layup to me.

  • @Agraffyx I saw it. Who hasn't? It's kind of a pity that some can't see past MJ's "greatest" and admit that this play was better. Nearly every NBA player could go out on the floor right now and re-create MJ's shot....they have a much tougher time re-creating Doc's shot!

  • @udhoop Actually, I would say that MJ's is harder. Needing the hang time and reflexes for that lay-up. This however was just because his hands was big enough to hold the ball like the video. And please, I did not bring MJ being the greatest into this conversation. I'm just looking at what it is, a beautiful lay-up.

  • @Agraffyx

mj's was unnecessary. If you really look at the play, he didnt have to change the shot cause he was high enough for them not to block it. His was just flashy

  • @CleanMane Search for the video. [Michael Jordan Famous Switch Between Hands Layup] Just hear what Michael had to say about the lay-up. He didn't do it to show-off. It might have been unnecessary. **But It still is a beautiful lay-up. Like I said previously, I'm just looking at it as a beautiful lay-up.

  • @udhoop your argument is invalid because you spelled "week" wrong...

  • Number 55 thumbs downed this one from 2 different screen names

  • @ryan216 that comment would have been funnier if the guy wasn't number 54..

  • I remember this like it was yesterday. This was as good as any dunk. If he did it today, would they show it on Sportscenter? I'm not sure. ESPN has kids today thinking if it's not a dunk, it's not a highlight.

  • why every body do a legendary lay up against lakers? dr j , mj ....

  • I am gonna do this move in my school game against lakemba 4 sure

  • carmelo, were gonna love you at msg :)

  • carmelo, were gonna love you at msg :)

  • i was there i was #24 at 0:04 going "yeaaaaaaa boiiiiiiiii, watch this layup comin'"!!!!

  • I saw the Dr. do this soooo many times when he was in the ABA with the Nets. He was "sick" every night! He would do this on fast breaks - it looked like he went past the hoop, turned around in the air and came back for the finger roll.

  • This is a historic NBA move from DrJ. Maybe better than MJ's switch hand layup.

BUT no way better than the MJ's unbelievable Layup/drive vs the

New Jersey Nets. He went through 3 defenders in the air after passing Petrovic

on the floor. He triple pumped that time and switch directions 2 times.

It's something that you watch over and over and over again and still wonder :

'' How in the entire universe did he do that ? ''. We will never understand that,

but that's the magic of MJ's best move!

  • @SairousClaou MJ's layup didn't have jack on this. The hang time on that move damn near being forced out of bound was epic.

  • @SairousClaou Dr. J's was better cuz he went out of bounds and came back in, he could've grabbed popcorn from someone in the crowd and came back in to score b4 he hit the ground.

  • kareem was like WTF??/??

  • sickest layup of all time.

  • greatest layup ever period

  • Amazing how he managed to palm that.

  • The man changed basketball long before Jordan came along. The doctor is "in" baby!

  • MJ's Switch hand lay up is still better.. Obviously 177 people has never seen MJ in the 80's. He did this in every game.. See his highlights. I'm not a Julius Erving Hater but I just disagree. So don't vote down just because you disagree

  • @jioshed stop guesting, People like who they like. You like toung man and others like myself like the Dr. I'm sure someone in your life time has compared you to someone els and you have come up two sandwiches short of

a picnic basket.I saw the game where MJ only score of 6 points in the Washington Wizards loss to the Indiana Pacers

    Dec 27, 2001.

  • Wasn't this the Finals where Magic played Center for one game?

  • @CoolerKing37 Look closely at this video and you can see #33, thats kareem abdul jabbar.

  • @abanks1959 I watched that game live. I was all for the Lakers. During that time, the Doc was like Jordan. Unstoppable. When they had him trap, I was like, "Yeah, they got him and Jack will block it." When he damn near went/forced out of bound and scored, all that I and damn near everybody on the planet could do was look in shock and shake our head. During the game, they played the move over and over because it was so shocking.

  • u know what. in the 80's basketball was more passionate and fun to watch. today, its still fun to watch...u just don't see plays like that anymore.

  • @guffawer98 actually the problem is that you see this once a game now, because players are more athletic now, so we don't appreciate as much

  • That should've have been a buzzer beater in a championship game! Would have been the greatest basket of all time

  • his arm gotta be longer than his leg

  • my favorite moment in basketball of all time. wish i couldve seen it live

  • lolkiller101, I can palm a basketball off the dribble like, and just to do that, blows people's minds......I'm 5'8", and my hands stretch out to 101/2 inches. You should see the looks I get from guys who are 6' or taller, when I take the palm the ball off the dribble.

  • Saw it on the live on the tube. Was amazed then and still am now. What made that shot great is twisting your body in the air after jumping up, not out, but up on one side, dipping and missing the backboard, and coming up on the other side. One of the great moments in NBA history.

  • that layup made white guys jump for black guys. amazing

  • The Dr's, hands from base of palm to the tip of his middle finger is 11 inches,

  • @mrtit1964 11inches is too long, it might be about 5 or 6 inches long

  • legendary clip that's always shown in any and all nba history shows

  • I make NBA Mixes with so much passion but I barely get recognition for them...=( could anyone here give me a comment at least please?

  • almost all NBA players can palm the ball very well

  • true. but not of the dribble. ive only seen him and mj do that.

  • how big are his hands rofl palms the ball mad easy

  • Dr. J holds the ball as if it's an orange!!

  • If you have a hand as big as the sole of your shoe, this move is easy for you

  • i remember seeing an old issue of nba digest c. 1980 with the camera pic from behind the backboard on this play.

  • this is the difference between 2 ponts and Dr. J's move!!!!!!

  • Dang dis dude got grip! lol

  • game sliders : P

  • how the hell did he do that

  • he palms the basketball like its a nerf ball

  • #1 player and layup (with michael jordan) evet

  • its so weird seeing fans cheering without stupid shit like vuvuzelas, thundersticks, cheesy posters, foam fingers, beers.

  • his hands are so huge, they used to describe 'em as meat hooks. they are larger than mj's.

during an interview w/magic, kenny, and charles, they each went hand-to-hand with dr. j's, and theirs looked like baby hands.

  • stop it at :03. Why he was the best mid air sho ever including Mike.

  • That's basket ball... Coming from a Philly fan, that's quality ball

  • He palmed the ball off the dribble and then the spectacular layup.

  • Are they playing with a woman's ball? He must have some huge ass hands.

  • THE GREATEST LAYUP OF ALL TIME. If you play with the "pause" button while running this video you will clearly see Dr J. DUCK HIS HEAD to keep from smashing it on the bottom of the backboard. He does this while he handles the ball with one hand 6FEET behind the backboard. Kobe has had some sick layups. So has MJ and Iverson. But none of them had anything like this. And against a dominent defense. THE GREATEST LAYUP OF ALL TIME. Did I say that already?

  • @2openurmind to this day, the greatest move to the basket, evah!!

  • Only person other then Jordan who Ive seen palm the ball of the dribble. That is just sick.

  • @keemer08 There once was a man named Connie Hawkins...

  • @2openurmind Talk about it....

  • @2openurmind tell 'em. He was Dr"s hero!

  • that layup is so cool, nice signature move :p

  • this is the craziest lay up in NBA history, nobody can do it now

  • @dukebreaker Vince Carter has done it but he used both hands so it's not as good, either way you need some hops to do it

  • billion dollar hands

  • hes like "oh shit how'd i end up behind the back board"

  • That is just fucking sick!!

  • "we cut him off and they're was no place for him to go but out of bounds it's still the best play i've seen in basketball the all time greatest" - magic johnson.

  • That fool's hands are HUGE!

  • Comment removed

  • search elzie bibbs 2010 aba

  • Wasn't there a quote from Magic Johnson about this layup? I remember Magic recalling the play and asking Kareem after the play if he(Dr.J) could do it again.

  • i wish i could have seen him play live

  • This is the best shot in nba history I think....

  • this is the best video in the whole world!!!!!!!!!!!

  • alright if you think about it tyreke evans' layup in the rookie challenge was better than this

  • dude it was like fourty years ago...he was the first to ever make a layup like this.

  • show me a playoff final where someone else makes a lay up like dis apart from jordon

  • Dr. J and Magic were far better all around players than Jordan. They werent just great scorers, they were also leaders because they led not just scored the most. They could have scored more than Jordan if they had ACTUALLY PASSED THE BALL once in a while. JMO.

  • @ra18067 You do know thatJORDAN AVERAGED MORE ASSISTS PER GAME than Dr J. right? Just thought you should know. Might wanna look that up in case you dont believe me.

  • If you slow down the footage, you can actually see Dr. J take out his fro comb and comb his fro out midair before he laid it in. You will need a special computer to do it though-- like kind that NASA uses because he did it do quickly.

  • How is that possible I wouldve been pissed like fuck it im not guarding him no more you guard him

  • wow wish id been alive in that time , he just glided so gracefully through the air !

  • Big Hands!!!

  • LOL erving stares at the ball and when it goes in he trips and falls down while getting back on defense

  • @epikhype that's cuz he tripped over someone's foot.

  • No one plays basketball with quite the same grace anymore.

  • what amazing here is, it was on the backboard

  • If I was there, I would've walked home, take a piss, and come back.

  • Unless you were there (I was), it's hard to explain that no one else was doing this kind of thing at the time.......in a sense it's like Babe Ruth hitting more homers than the rest of the league.....Dr. J was in a class by himself - period - and I'm a Lakers fan!

  • Imagine what would have happened if the NBA didn't force the breakup of the Nets before taking in the ABA teams!!! The Dr, the IceMan and Gilmore would have racked up championships like the Lakers/Celtics combined!

  • @ilikemyprivacy oh man

dr j ice man and gilmore...just thinking about that team make me jizz

  • that was way better than MJ's switch hand layup

  • I always thought that MJ's switch hand layup was unnecessary to complete the shot. He could have made the shot with out the switch.

  • @TSOfan Yea Mj didnt have to do it. When they asked him about the layup, he said that he thought someone was gonna try and block it.

  • @marioatlanta21 No kidding? I'm gad you mentioned it in your reply because I think MJ is the best NBA player ever to play the game and am glad he wasn't trying to be too "showy".

  • @aznkid23bm

Yep, but not better than MJ's layup agains the nets..

  • Dr.J's reverse scoop.

  • that was badass and the best lay up let!!!

  • Dr. J, definitely one of the greatest small forwards of all time for sure, a charismatic and great player. Ahh I love watching this. :)

  • best lay up in the history of Basketball

  • @jias188 yeah. on the real.

  • @jias188 i wrote this a year ago haha didnt think i get thumbs up haha!!

  • favorite layup of all time

  • That is such a fuckign crazy move. You would have to be so athletic to do that

  • no. it was julius erving

  • I remember that moment so well.

  • KAreem actually got a finger on the ball...

  • This is classic, iconic Dr. J.

  • What about Pete Pistol Maravich?

  • Erving, Bird, Pippen

Those are 3 best SF's in the history of the game for me, not in the order.

  • I would put Nique over Pippen, but that's just my opinion.

  • Like I said, it's my own top 3, someone would put there Wilkins, some would put Drexler, some would go with Havlicek.

  • elgin baylor

  • how bout oscar robertson??

  • he's a pointguard :)

  • im pretty sure he's a swing man not a sf but plays sg/sf he's just good at assist

  • @MasterThomers Dr J was a small forward.

  • @MasterThomers What about Elgin Baylor?

Erving, Bird, Pippen, Nique, Baylor, Havlicheck (or was he a sg? I forget)
